Hepworth were the visitors to Haggs Hill on Saturday morning in the Huddersfield Junior League. Both teams were unbeaten going into the game and a good contest was anticipated. Neither team disappointed in what turned out to be a fantastic game of junior football. The ‘ Tornados ‘ lined up with Elliot Robinson in goal, Jacob Nash and James Ferguson at the rear with Bradley Graham, Lewis Stephens and Connor Mcaliskey in midfield. Billy Pert started up front with Ewan Broadbent on the bench. The game was an end to end affair from start to finish with both teams playing excellent football. Ossett started fast and a couple of early opportunities went begging. Hepworth were comfortable on the ball and they deployed a passing game throughout. The deadlock was broken when Bradley Graham made a strong run down the right side before chipping the keeper with a superb finish into the top corner. ( Ossett 1 Hepworth 0 ). Hepworth were not fazed and they stuck to their guns. Good defending by Jacob Nash and James Ferguson keeping them at bay. Hepworth equalized when a long ball caught the defence out and a cool finish brought the scores level. ( Ossett 1 Hepworth 1 ). Connor Mcaliskey and Lewis Stephens worked hard to stem the tide and Elliot Robinson made a couple of telling saves. Hepworth then took the lead when a superb passing move through midfield led to an excellent finish. ( Ossett 1 Hepworth 2 ) Half time. The second half followed the same pattern although Ossett visibly upped their performance closing the opposition down at every given opportunity. A corner was swung in from the right by Bradley Graham and it was exquistly chested home by Lewis Stephens. ( Ossett 2 Hepworth 2 ). Both teams continued to excel and after a period of total deadlock it took a Bradley Graham thunderbolt to separate them. His right footed effort from distance smashing into the roof of the net for a trade mark finish. ( Ossett 3 Hepworth 2 ). Ewan Broadbent and Billy Pert shared the duties up front and both players played their part in constantly husstleing the away defence. Ewan Broadbent being denied on one occasion by an excellent save from the keeper. Billy Pert refused to be kept out of the headlines picking the ball up on the right hand side. He jinked his way into the box before dispatching an unstoppable finish into the bottom corner. ( Ossett 4 Hepworth 2 ). Hepworth battled right to the end and they were rewarded with a third goal after fine interchange play. ( Ossett 4 Hepworth 3 ) Final Score. A great game of football in which all participants should be rightly proud of their performance. Good luck to Hepworth in the future.
