Match Report – U11 Jaguars 1 v 9 Elland
Ossett Town Jaguars versus Elland – 22 April 2012.
Ossett turned out in their blue kit for their last match of the season, which started in beautiful sunny conditions. The game’s early play was very evenly matched with Joseph Auty standing out for the Jaguars, making some strong runs and effective crosses, but penetration was difficult as Elland packed their defence.
Jay Steadman and Archie Gardener were having good games in defence, but it was a piece of slack defending that let Elland in for their first goal. The contest continued to be evenly matched with Ossett having some good periods of passing play. Harrison Joss came into his own with some brilliant throw-ins from the left. Harry was producing a strong display with tenacious tackling from the right side of midfield. Despite Alex Jolly having a good game in the nets making a number of good saves, one with his legs was particularly memorable, the half time score was 5 – 0 to the opposition.
The second half started more brightly for Town and again Joseph Auty was causing the Elland defenders all sorts of trouble and the pressure paid off when he scored to make the Ossett supporters hopeful of a “game of 2 halves”. It wasn’t to be and despite some good defending by Harry, Harrison and Archie and more saves from Alex, Elland got more goals. The final score was 9 -1, but the result didn’t give a true reflection of the performance. The Elland coach praised the fighting spirit of the Jaguars, particularly in the second half. Daz gave the man of the match to whole team, again for the second half showing, but also singled out Joseph Auty for his display.
