Pwhelli Festival of Football U10’s Report

Pwhelli festival of football North Wales

Ossett Town U10’s descended upon North Wales to compete in the spring festival of football tournament. They were amongst eight teams in a league type structure with the top two teams receiving awards. The matchs took place over two days with the format consisting of two ten minute periods. The full nine man squad consisted of Stephen Hosty, Owen Denning, James Higgins, James Ferguson, Jarrad Oakes, Lewis Stephens, William Kenworthy, Billy Pert and Bradley Graham.

Match one v Porthmadog ( North Wales )  Won 8 – 0      3 League Points

Scorers Bradley Graham 2, Lewis Stephens 2, Billy Pert 2, William Kenworthy and James Higgins

A fairly comfortable start to the tournament against the hosts. The team played some good football against gallant opponents who went on to win the fair play award.

Match two  v  FC Spartans Golds ( Birkenhead, Liverpool )  Won 2 – 1   3 League Points

Scorers  James Ferguson and Bradley Graham ( Pen )

A much tougher game against physical and committed opposition. The team refused to be intimidated and they secured a fine victory.

Match three  v  Batley Juniors ( A )  ( West Yorkshire )  Drew  0 – 0    1 League Point

This proved to be another tough tight encounter against our West Yorkshire neighbours. Both teams created chances but the points were shared.

Match four  v  Batley Juniors ( B )  ( West Yorkshire )  Won 3 – 1    3 League Points

Scorers  Bradley Graham, William Kenworthy and Lewis Stephens

The team played some excellent passages of football during this game and they came out of it as the deserved winners.

Match five  v  FC Spartans Clarets  ( Birkenhead, Liverpool )  Drew 1 – 1     1 League point

Scorer  Bradley Graham

Another tough encounter against the Merseyside outfits first team. Again the lads refused to be out muscled as both teams went at each other. Neither team managed to gain the upper hand and the spoils were shared.

Match six  v  Carnmoney FDC ( Northern Ireland )   Won 3 – 0       3 League Points

Scorers  Bradley Graham 2 and Billy Pert

This was a fairly comfortable victory against a team displaying true fighting Irish spirit. Some excellent committed play ensured that the maximum points were obtained.

Match seven  v  AFC Rumney  ( Cardiff, Wales )   Won 1 – 0      3 League Points

Scorer  Billy Pert

The team played this game against the overall winners of the tournament. AFC Rumney went in to this match with six straight wins under their belt and they were intent on making it a clean sweep. The lads had other ideas though as they ripped in to their opponents. A single first half goal was the difference that settled this feisty final encounter. Although happy with the three points it was slightly diluted by the fact that the team had missed out on the overall winners trophy by a single point. On this occasion they had to settle for the runners up spot.

Every member of the squad was fantastic and all were a great credit to the club both on and off the pitch. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament which contained some quality teams. The two draws would prove to be our downfall which led to the squad missing out on the winners trophy by a single point. I feel that the squad tried immensely hard and it was a privilege to observe them as a group during this fantastic trip to sunny Wales. Well done to all the players / parents and coaching staff.
