A game of one quarter! After a decent 45 minutes, a disastrous last 15 led to the Jaguars getting thumped 9 -2.
The game started as an evenly matched affair and was entertaining to watch. Periods of Brighouse pressure led to excellent clearances from James and Callum and great defending from Archie and Joey who had a particularly good game with some magnificent headers. Jamie was having a cracking game in the Jaguars net, clearing up many long balls with a safe pair of hands.
On the attacking front; Matthew made a good run from his own half passing to Joey whose shot needed a good save from the home keeper. Luke and Samee were strong in the heart of the midfield whilst Alex made penetrating forays down the wing. Goals from Bradley and Jay made the score at ½ time, a respectable, 3 – 2 in Brighouse’s favour.
The game restarted with everyone optimistic that something could be got from the game. For first 15 minutes the contest continued; Jamie was still strong with good calling, safe hands and one particularly brave save at the striker’s feet. Harry was battling away, although some of his tackles where deemed too strong by the ref. and 2 were seen as free kicks. Callum and Archie where providing some resilient defending. Going forward, Jay played a lovely through ball from midfield and Matthew had a smashing run which led to an Ossett corner. Things started to go wrong when Brighouse got a couple of breakaway goals and the “wheels fell off” the Ossett performance. Passes went astray, tackles were missed and clearances didn’t make the halfway line. Previously, the Brighouse defence had held a solid line on the halfway line, fearful of an Ossett break away, but now everyone seemed to be in the Jaguars penalty area, with the opposition knowing that the Jaguars were no longer a threat.
The 9 – 2 drubbing was particularly disappointing after the good showing for most of the game. The man of the match was awarded to Joey for his stand out performance.
