Well the Panthers travelled to Batley with a few changes to the usual line up and it showed from the start with a very scrappy opening few minutes and no real formation to the team that had been playing so well together lately.
Ben Fishman carrying an injury had to come off after a few minutes and as a result William Hall had to work extra today on the left. Harry Graves was put in defence with Thomas, Jacob and Edward. Alex Empsall had a lot of the ball early on and was a threat to Heckmondwicke. Mark and Chris were busy in midfield and tackling well.
The Panthers first goal came with a fine strong run from Dan and a tap in for Chris. The Panthers were awarded a penalty not long after which Dan cooly converted. Josh had a fine start and made a strong run and put a superb ball into Dan who slammed the ball home for his second of the game. 3 – 0 and the Panthers were in control but still gave the ball away a lot and were very untidy in midfield. Chris delivered a beautiful corner in for Dan’s fourth goal and his hat-trick. Half time soon approaching and a fine shot from Mark was well saved by the Heckmondwike keeper only to see Dan follow up and make it 5-0.
Second half and the late arrival of Lewis Cartledge gave the Panthers a lift. The Heckmondwike keeper was busy all game and made some super saves, well done to him, but a stunning free kick from Lewis saw him get on the score sheet and the Panthers sixth goal of the day, which soon became seven with another fine effort from Lewis, a long range lob over the keeper. Another penalty was awarded to Ossett after a blatant hand ball and Lewis claimed his hat-trick with the penalty take, 8-0 to the Panthers.
Heckmondwike’s head never went down though and they kept passing and trying all game and got their reward with two quick goals, 8-2 and the Panthers seemed to have taken their foot off the pedal. Scott in goal could do nothing about either goal and he did make some good saves and came off his line early on, on numerous occasions or the score line would certainly have been different. The Panthers also had a bag full of other chances that weren’t put away and a couple of goals disallowed.
Tom Davies ran well and gave his all, but had to come off injured near the end, hope your leg is OK Tom. Thomas made some timely tackles and got the ball forward, Josh was switched into defence and held his line well. Edward always seemed to be in charge at the back and cleared his lines every time of asking.
The last and ninthTown goal came from Dan with a fine finish and his fifth goal of the day, well done Dan. There was also an excellent hat-trick for Lewis, but man of the match went to Harry Graves who was outstanding right from the start and throughout with some great tackles, defending and reading of the game, not much got past little Harry today.
