Ex-Junior Player Matthew Pollard on charity expidition to Kilimanjaro!
Matthew Pollard played for Ossett Town Juniors from 2004 to 2008 – Fast forward to 2013 and Matthew is currently preparing for a September expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the Childreach International charity.
Speaking of his climb, Matthew said, “I signed up for this climb after being inspired by the fantastic summer of sport that Britain has enjoyed this year, showing what feats can be achieved with the right support and from my studies in economics realising how much inequality there is in the world and thought it was about time I did something to help. I was also shocked by the sudden passing of Andy Driver in October 2011, which has acted as a motivation to do as much as I can, while I can. Due to the impact Andy had on our age group at the club, which I played for 5 years, I helped Alec Rispin organise the playing side members of the memorial match we held at the stadium on the 16th September 2012”
We are pleased to support Matthew in his endeavors and hope his fund raising, and the expedition itself is a great success. We hope to feature updates from Matthew as the climb gets closer, and to hear later in the year how the climb itself goes!
