Today’s visitors Churwell arrived at ‘Springmill’ intent on making sure that Ossett were made to work hard for the valuable three league points on offer. On a fine day ‘for once’ both teams worked hard on a firm dry playing surface. Joint player of the match James Higgins enjoyed a productive first half with good runs down the left. Defender Connor Mcaliskey assisted him with some intelligent passes. ‘Town’ took the lead on 14 minutes from a neatly worked short corner. Ewan Broadbent curled in a strike from range with his left foot which left the keeper stranded 1-0 Ossett. At this point Ossett were in control and in the 17th minute Lewis Stephens smashed a corner against the crossbar. Not to be out done the visitors stuck to their task well and defenders Jacob Nash, Bailey Rawden and James Ferguson were kept busy throughout. In the 29th minute Ossett were awarded a corner on the right. Bradley Graham providing a fine delivery which was met with a great header by Lewis Stephens for a 2-0 lead at Half Time. In the second half it was to become a tale of two missed penalty opportunities as both teams failed from the spot. Home keeper Elliot Robinson made various crucial saves today along with acting as a sweeper at the rear. His performance was rewarded with a share of the player of the match award. Will Kenworthy was a constant thorn in the side of the visitors with his mazy runs at their defenders. Strikers Billy Pert and Luke Townend worked hard throughout against determined opposition. The game was all but sealed in the 42nd minute when Connor Mcaliskey made a strong run down the left. His cross was met by midfielder Bradley Graham who looped his shot over the keeper 3-0 to Ossett. Ewan Broadbent enjoyed productive spells in possession and on 46 minutes his fine approach play led to a corner on the left. Striker Billy Pert was on hand to poke home a fourth goal to provide ‘Town’ with a 4-0 lead. Almost immediately Ossett broke forward again and on 47 minutes Bradley Graham smashed home goal number five with his right foot ‘Town’ 5 Churwell 0. In some respects the scoreline was a tad harsh on the visitors who played right to the very end. They were awarded a penalty kick in the 56th minute but keeper Elliot Robinson made great save low down to his left. The hosts had already missed a penalty of their own earlier in the game. Both teams played their part in an enjoyable encounter with the final score being 5-0 to Ossett.

Well done to both sets of players and good luck to Churwell Lions in the future.
