Following the recent heavy rain, the Jaguars planned away game against Norristhorpe was switched to Springmill.
The Jaguars had succumbed to a heavy defeat when the two sides met earlier in the season, and had to defend well from the start of the game as Norristhorpe generated some early pressure. Jamie needed to make a good save, and punch away a dangerous cross, as Norristhorpe attacked.
The Jaguars looked threatening on the break, with Archie Bean and Matthew creating half chances from wide positions, and Luke and Jay testing the Norristhorpe keeper.
Norristhorpe looked a strong side though, and despite the Jaguars’ resistance took control of the game with two quick goals, the first a strike from a difficult angle, the second tapped in from close range.
The Jaguars stood firm in defence despite the setback, with Archie Gardner doing well to break down a dangerous attack down the flanks, and Sam, James and Tom keeping Norristhorpe at bay for long periods in central defence.
The Jaguars finished the half strongly, with several promising moves. Archie Bean and Samee showed good footwork to create openings, Jay made a powerful run from midfield only to see his shot roll just wide, and Luke’s clever off run off the ball was almost found by Archie Bean, but the goalkeeper was quickly off his line to snuff out the chance. Bradley also saw his shot go narrowly the wrong side of the post before the end of the first period.
The Jaguars came out for the second half two goals down, but followed on from their good spell before the break. Alex forced two good saves from the keeper, and Luke shot just wide from Jay’ excellent crossfield ball, before the Jaguars finally got the the goal their efforts deserved. Tom played a great ball forward for Oliver to run onto and he made no mistake slotting the ball into the net.
At the other end, Sam was alert to make a good interception and pass.
Matthew created two half chances for Luke, one of which resulted in a goalmouth scramble which Norristhorpe just managed to clear to prevent an equaliser. But in an end-to-end spell, the clearance led to a Norristhorpe corner, which resulting in another scramble, which the Jaguars couldn’t manage to defend.
At three-one down, the game looked beyond the Jaguars, but the continued to attack, and Matthew was very unlucky to see his excellent effort saved by the quickly-advancing Norristhorpe keeper when through one-on-one.
Right at the end of the game, Norristhorpe sealed the win with another goal from a corner kick, to make the final scoreline Jaguars 1 Norristhorpe 4.
