This home league fixture against Leeds Maccabi was played in very testing windy conditions. Ossett were slow out of the starting blocks and the visitors took a deserved early lead converted by their pacy number 10. ‘Town’ gradually clawed their way back in and joint player of the match James Higgins fired home a sweet strike from distance to level the scores at 1-1. Connor Mcaliskey came on and added to much needed spark to the hosts offensive play. He broke through and dispatched a fine left footed strike past the keeper for a 2-1 lead. Leeds Maccabi were gallant first half opponents and created chances of their own. Home stopper Elliot Robinson making one fine diving save at the feet of an on rushing attacker as well as racing from his line to clear on several occasions. Lewis Stephens settled in well in his unfamiliar defensive role assisted by the ever reliable Jacob Nash. Goal number three was a superb individual effort from prolific striker Billy Pert. He turned inside the penalty area before firing into the top corner. 3-1 to Ossett at Half Time. The ‘Tornados’ took full command of the flight deck during the whole of the second half. Ewan Broadbent and midfield counterpart Bradley Graham visibly upping the tempo of the hosts approach play. Defender James Ferguson had a good game today with some composed passing from the rear. Bailey Rawden was his usual rock solid self in the centre half position. Lively wideman James Higgins converted goal number four with a fine run and dribble around the keeper. He fired the ball into the roof of the net for a 4-1 lead. Luke Townend played well up front continuing his fine form during the past few games. He smashed home goal number five with a right footed strike into the top right hand corner 5-1 to Ossett. Although it was backs against the wall type stuff for the Leeds Maccabi players they tried very hard throughout. Lewis Stephens by now in midfield linked up well with player of the match Connor Mcaliskey and Ewan Broadbent down the left. Striker Luke Townend benefitted from one such passage of play with a side footed effort to take the score to 6-1 to ‘Town’. Not to be out done Bradley Graham created space for James Higgins down the right flank. His perfect cross allowed Billy Pert to side foot home goal number seven 7-1 to Ossett. The ‘Tornados’ were rampant at this point and they finished the game very strongly. Defender Bailey Rawden scored a rare but fully deserved goal from a corner. Unexpectedly finding the ball at his feet he coolly placed it beyond the keeper into the bottom left hand corner of the net to leave a final score of 8-1 to Ossett Town. Both teams understandably struggled to master the wayward conditions. Well done to all the players and good luck to Leeds Maccabi in the future
