Ossett Town U7’s B v Thornhill A
Ossett Team: Ben Steel, Bailey Mitchell, Rowan Stephenson, Connor Stanwix, Bailey Goodlad, Henry Hughes
A glorious sunny but cold day greeted the crowd as they arrived to watch the game. The pitch was small and the Ossett contingent were wondering whether it would restrict the usual quality passing game that Ossett try to play.
Thornhill kicked off but Ossett soon won the ball with some good tackling. The fears about Ossett not being able to play their passing game were quickly dispelled as Connor played a great ball through to Henry, who slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 to Ossett within the first couple of minutes. Bailey G’ had started the game really well and was putting in some great tackles. Ossett won a throw in in the Thornhill half – a great throw in from Connor found Bailey G’ in space, who fired home to make it 2-0 to Ossett. Town were maintaining their shape really well and Rowan was having another dominant game at the back. Ben in goal wasn’t having much to do and was passing the ball well from the back. Town won a free kick near to the touchline. Henry grabbed the ball and there was little doubt in the crowds mind that he would have a go at goal. He produced a great shot into the top corner to make it 3-0 to Ossett. As the half went on, the energy levels from the whole team was fantastic. Bailey M’ had now come onto the pitch and was putting in a dynamic performance in midfield. Rowan continued to be strong in the tackle. Thornhill were working hard and their effort was rewarded with a goal 2 minutes before half time to make it 3-1. Ossett are made of stern stuff and didn’t let the goal affect their performance. Henry got hold of the ball just into Thornhill’s half and showed great control as he danced round 3 defenders before firing the ball home to complete his hat-trick, and make the half time score 4-1.
After a quick turnaround, the Ossett side were soon into their stride. Bailey M’ got hold of the ball on the right hand side and beat 2 defenders with some great control. he spotted a small gap at the near post and hit a really accurate shot to make it 5-1. It was then Connor’s turn to show his footballing ability with a great tackle, a strong surge forward and a powerful shot to make it 6-1. The quality of the football from the whole team was really impressive – Ben was stopping any threat at the back & passing the ball well. Bailey M’ was having a great game in midfield and was working really hard. Rowan continued to be dominant at the back and stopping anything that came his way – he made one of his trademark tackles went on a great run and unselfishly passed the ball to Bailey G’, who made it 7-1 with his second of the game. Ben then made a couple of good saves to keep the scoreline the same. The eighth goal was perhaps the highlight of the game, as a great end to end passing move started by a good Rowan pass which involved everyone, ended with Bailey G’ slotting the ball home for his hat-trick. The game was now into the last couple of minutes. Henry got hold of the ball near his own area and was brought down, winning a free kick. After a short injury break he got up and played a great free-kick through to Connor, who controlled it superbly before firing the ball home. The game soon ended, with the final score being 9-1 to Ossett.
This was another good performance, with great quality football on show. The team maintained their positions, passed the ball well, showed great teamwork, good finishing and some examples of great individual skill. A pleasure to watch.
Final score: Ossett Town B 9 – 1 Thornhill 1. (Goal-scorers: Connor 2, Bailey M’ 1, Henry 3, Bailey G’ 3)

Welcome to a wet Sunday morning and a rather muddy pitch. Ossett have travelled well are wide awake and ready to kick off with what looks like a strong Shelf side. The pitch has a gradient of about 15% that must be great for sledging. Ossett to kick off and were going downhill. Kai gets an early chance but is unfortunate not to score. Ossett are getting some strong tackles in and look to be having the better of the game. The ball goes up the field and Shelf have a goal. Kai is battling hard with Callum in support. Kai gets a shot in that is saved while Harley makes a great save at the other end. Ossett are defending a corner and Alfie gets an important tackle in. This is short lived when Shelf get another to make it 2v0. Kai makes an excellent run and with Ryan having made a substitution Isaac is on and makes a great run and gets his first goal. Harley makes an important save at the other end. Alfie passes to Kai who makes a good run only to be tackled. Ossett have the ball again Callum makes a pass that splits the defence with a great pass to Isaac who makes no mistake to get his second and the games level at 2v2. Harley is quality in goal and is unlucky to see Shelf get their third. Kai makes a run with a good pass from Callum and Kai has a goal to get us level. John-Charles has the ball that drops nicely for Alfie who takes a shot and goal 3v4. Shelf are back at us and have their fourth. The half comes to an end at 4v4.
Second half sees Ossett going uphill. Callum is making some good little runs and with a scramble in the box Callum gets a goal. Shelf score again to level it at 5v5. Shelf have a corner and the balls now at the other end. Lucas has the ball with a little run and scores a great goal. Kai has a free kick due to being at the receiving end of a crunching tackle. Mistakes in defence lead to another goal from Shelf 6v6. Shelf are getting the better of the game and score another. Isaac makes a good run and scores his third 7v7. Callum makes a great pass to Lucas who in turn passes to Isaac who has just enough in his tank to get his fourth to bring Ossett in the lead 7v8. Can’t be long to go now and can Ossett hold on to this lead. Isaac has a shot saved. John-Charles passes the ball to Lucas who has another great shot saved. In the dying seconds Shelf get the equaliser and the ref blows the whistle.
A really hard fought game that deserved a win but a good result anyway. Well played to all the players and coaches.
Final Score: Shelf B 8 – 8 Ossett Town C (Scorers: Isaac 4, Kai 1, Callum 1, Alfie 1, Lucas 1)
MOTM: the whole team.
Ossett town “D” vs Shelf “C”
Excellent team performance brings Ossett the win
On a cold and murky morning Ossett town lined up for this away fixture against Shelf with Connor Stanwix in Goal, Thomas Berry in defence, Joe Hurdus and Noah Crawshaw in midfield and Thomas Maloney up front and Ethan Tsungu and Alfie WIlkinson were on the bench. On a sloping pitch Ossett played downhill in the first half and were looking to build on last week’s impressive displays.
Shelf kicked off and immediately went on the attack but Ossett held there shape well and Joe and Noah blocked the attack and the ball broke forward and all of a sudden Thomas B was chasing the ball down and was through on goal and a wonderful finish into the bottom corner gave Ossett an early lead. Shelf kicked off again and again Ossett were pressing really well and the ball broke to Thomas M in the middle of the field who spread the ball out wide to Noah who played a delightful pass through for Thomas B who finished clinically to make it 2-0 to Ossett. Ossett were full of confidence and again great pressing by Joe and Noah allowed Thomas B to break and he shot from distance powerfully and it just whistled inches wide. From the goal kick Ossett again chased the ball down and it broke to Thomas M who passed it to Joe who did a delightful turn and passed to Noah who sent Thomas B on his way who again finished confidently to make it 3-0 this was a great team goal. Ossett continued to be on the front foot and were closing Shelf down and giving them very little time on the ball but over confidence got the better to of them as they all ventured upfield an Shelf quickly broke and were bearing down on Connors goal, When Joe who was full of energy chased back and took the ball off the toe of the Shelf attacker as he was ready to shoot, Joe showed great composure on the ball and did not rush or panic which was great to see and played a simple pass to Noah to allow Ossett to clear. Ossett were soon 4-0 as Thomas B tackled a shelf defender and slotted it into the bottom corner and Ossett were playing some great football. Again a bit of over confidence kicked in and it allowed Shelf to win a corner and some poor Ossett marking nearly allowed shelf back into the game but Connor saved well and held onto the ball. The first change of the half them came and Thomas B was replaced by Ethan. The whole team continued to play well and Joe and Noah were excellent in tracking back from midfield and not allowing Shelf to break. This pressure then paid off as Ethan took the ball off the shelf midfield and ran through on goal past the defender and finished coolly into the bottom corner and Ossett were 5-0 and good value for the lead. Ossett were fully in the ascendency and were pressing all over the pitch to put Shelf under pressure and nearly had another goal as Thomas M passed it to Ethan who pulled a good save from the Shelf goalkeeper. Ossett continued to pour forward and Joe won the ball in defence and played the ball through to Noah who shot quickly and went just wide of the goal. Noah was then replaced by Thomas B. Ossett were playing some great stuff now and always looking to pass the ball which was great to see and this again paid off as a nice team build up the ball was passed out to Thomas B who shot towards goal and Ethan showing a real poachers instinct finished it from a yard out to make it 6-0 and brought about the half time whistle and a wonderful team performance.
Ossett were now going to be playing uphill for the second half and Thomas M went in goal with Connor coming to play in outfield.
Despite playing uphill Ossett started the 2nd half as they had finished the first and Thomas B won the ball in his own half and ran through on goal and never gave it up as he got in ahead of the keeper and tapped it into the goal to make it 7-0. Ossett were still full of energy and pressing Shelf down all over the pitch and this caused shelf to play it out for an Ossett throw on halfway. Ethan threw the ball to Thomas B who took it on his head past the Shelf defence and slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 8-0. Shelf then made the downhill advantage begin to pay with some pressure in the Ossett half but Ossett pressed and tackled well with Joe and Noah continually outstanding in defence, but one of the tackles broke to shelf and a shot from distance was well saved by Thomas M to keep the clean sheet intact. From Thomas M’s throw out the ball came to the energetic Thomas B who played the ball to Joe, who set Connor on his way down the wing who played a delightful cross into the box and all that was needed was a cool finish and Thomas B obliged to make 9-0 to Ossett. It was 10-0 almost immediately from the shelf kick off as Connor pressed the ball and won it back and beat the Shelf defence and showed great desire against the Shelf goalkeeper to again win it and tap into the empty net for a great individual goal. Connor was then replaced by Alfie and this again did not disrupt the Ossett boys as some great defence from Ethan and Joe allowed Thomas B to break and suddenly there were 3 Ossett players through, Thomas B and Noah went for the same ball and seemed to get in each other’s way but Ethan was on hand to finish to make it 11-0. Ossett were continuing to be outstanding in all aspects of the game as a team with great pressing and passing when winning the ball back and this pressure again brought results as Joe got the ball out wide to Thomas B who played a cross into the middle and just when it looked like Noah was going to finish a shelf defender put it into his own net to make it 12-0. Shelf then had a couple of quick attacks and shots which Thomas M got down to well in the Ossett goal. Ossett now continued to flow forward and could have had more as great team play led to a couple of chances for both Noah and Thomas B but shooting was a little wayward now and just seemed to go past the post every time. As Ossett poured forward Joe was left isolated at the back but whenever Shelf attacked he won the ball back well and showed great composure on the ball and putting one of his trademarked turns and passed in there to release Noah who was unlucky not to score. Perhaps now Ossett were a little sapped from pouring up field in the 2nd half and Shelf had a period of pressure of their own and were soon on the score-sheet as they broke in numbers and crossed the ball in and a little unluckily Joe deflected the ball into the goal to make it 12-1. It was soon 12-2 as again Shelf broke and took a shot at goal that took a massive deflection off Ethan sending Thomas M the wrong way. Shelf were now full of confidence but between Joe in defence and Thomas M in goal all attacks were stopped. Ossett nearly capped the performance off with the last kick of the game as Noah took the ball off Shelf and made a great run down the wing and crossed it to Connor in the middle who pulled a great save from the Keeper and then came the final whistle and an Outstanding team performance had brought them the win.
Final Score Shelf C 2 – 12 Ossett Town D
Ossett Town E vs Thornhill B
Team: Finn Tattersfield, Max Massey, Sam Nightingale, Luca Teal, Isaac Holmes, Callum McGarry
After watching Ossett win 9-1 in the first game of the day the crowd were expecting great things from the second match and they were not to be disappointed.
Straight from the kick off Max started with determination down the left wing taking on 2 Thornhill players before taking a close range shot which was deflected just wide. The game continued with a period of dominance from Ossett with a series of corners……..although the Ossett team did seem a little bit more focused on discussing last night’s television!!!
Callum had a couple of great efforts which he was unlucky to see roll just wide of the post. Ossett were defending resolutely with Luca making some fine clearances. The opposition were mainly forced to taking long range efforts which Sam was comfortably collecting and saving in goal.
Isaac and Finn were like 2 midfield generals throwing themselves into tackles and linking passes together well. The half ended with a superb long range effort from Max which the diving Thornhill goalkeeper touched just wide.
With the scores 0-0 at half time manager Kenny juggled the team with Sam coming out of goal and Luca volunteering to replace him. With Ossett now playing slightly downhill you did feel there would be goals in the second half. The crowd did not have long to wait as Thornhill had a corner which broke to Callum and he ran the full length of the pitch to score into the bottom corner.
Ossett continued to dominate with a series of corners from Sam which both Isaac and Max came close to finishing. It was once again Callum who persevered down the left wing beating 2 Thornhill players before scrambling the ball into the goal.
Thornhill then came more into the game with 2 quick goals which Luca in goal had no chance of saving. Not to be outdone Callum stepped up again to score for Ossett getting a well-deserved hat trick. Thornhill responded again to make the score 3-3 as the game entered the last 5 minutes. Not to be outdone Ossett stepped up a gear with Isaac feeding Finn for a wonderful finish off the post. Thornhill continued to attack with Luca in goal making a series of plunging goal line saves.
In the final minutes Ossett continued to press with Max capping a fine game with a strike into the bottom corner. The final goal for Ossett came from Sam who volleyed the Thornhill keeper’s goal kick back into the net from the half way line. The game was then halted whilst Sam did a lap of the park in celebration!!!
All in all the game was certainly one of 2 halves with Ossett defending well in the first half and then stepping up the pace playing free flowing football in the second. Well done to all 6 players as this was a joy to watch.
Final Score Thornhill B 4 – 6 Ossett Town E (Goal Scorers: Callum McGarry 3, Sam Nightingale 1, Finn Tattersfield 1, Max Massey 1)
