A Team:

Ossett Town v Northowram.

GK – 14. Henry Hughes, 12. Lucas Stephens, 15. Connor Stanwix, 18. Bailey Mitchell, 25. Bailey Goodlad, 27. Isaac Donlon

Ossett made a good start to the game with Lucas going close with a good run and shot which was blocked, Ossett were then on the backfoot for a while but good defending from Connor was keeping Northowram from getting too close, Bailey M was helping out at the back too putting some good tackles and putting the ball safe, Henry was always first to any through ball that they tried to play through the defence, Henry then made a great save to give them a corner. But a quick pass from Henry to Bailey M on the right got Ossett moving quickly and a good run from Lucas was spotted by Bailey M who found him and his shot went just wide, this seemed to bring Ossett to life and as the ball came back to them Isaac played a pass to Bailey M who once again found Lucas who was through on goal from the right and fired a lovely shot past the keeper, to make it 1 v 0 to Ossett.

Northowram came forward straight away and some good defending by Bailey G soon stopped them. Henry was called into action again with a great one handed stop, but he couldn’t stop the next shot as he was unsighted as Connor did his best to make a last ditch tackle after a good run from the opposition player and finish to make it   1 v 1.

Ossett started to get a grip on the game and Isaac and Lucas were trying their best to get forward and Isaac forced a corner after a good run on the right. Isaac took the corner quickly short and straight to Bailey M who scored at the near post to the opposition’s surprise to make it 2 v 1.

Connor and Bailey G were keeping the Northowram attack away and making good runs and passing down both wings keeping Ossett moving and playing the ball around with confidence, but a good run from the Northowram attacker beat Henry at the near post to make it 2 v 2.

Halftime Ossett town 2 v 2 Northowram

The second half started with Isaac donning the goalie shirt and gloves and Henry getting his chance outfield, and he started by making some lovely passes up both wings and switching it from side to side helping Ossett keep the ball and start to dominate the midfield, Lucas, Bailey G both had good shots which went wide and Bailey M set up Lucas after cutting inside from the left and his shot was turned around for a corner. Henry took the corner which flew in to area and deflected of a defender for an own goal.  It made the score 3  v  2 but Ossett deserved it.

Isaac made a good stop as the opponents tried to get back into the game but Connor and Henry weren’t letting them get past, and Ossett were looking good on the ball with chances from Henry and Bailey G. Bailey M was making the left hand side his own. A throw in on the left taken by Bailey M to Lucas who played it back to Bailey M who played it into the middle for Henry to run on to who took it to the right and played a lovely pass to Bailey G who ran up the wing and made a great cross into the box to the waiting Lucas to bury into the net, a brilliant well worked move which had everybody around the pitch cheering.

4 v 2 should’ve been more as Lucas and Bailey M set up Henry who shot into the side netting. Henry then set up Bailey M who shot wide, but a quick counter attack brought Isaac into action as he saved a shot, but it came back out and Connor tried his best to stop it but it was hit into the net to make it 4  v 3.

It made the game a little more nervous than it should’ve been but Ossett hung on and Bailey G almost scored before the referee blew for fulltime. Ossett players and Kenny were delighted with efforts from the players today, a well deserved win.

Full time.

B Team:

Ossett Town B v Elland.

GK – 4. Ben Steel, 6. Kai May, 8. Finn Tattersfield, 22. Max Massey, 16. Callum McGarry, 19. Jacob Ward, sub 18. Bailey Mitchell

Craig made his managerial debut today and was looking for a good performance from an Ossett side which had a lot of potential. He watched his team get off to a good start, with them putting in some good tackles and making some good runs forward, which took some doing as the pitch they were playing on was a lot bigger than what they were used to, it kept most of the play in and around the middle of the pitch. Kai and Max were making some good runs and trying to get the ball to Jacob who was just waiting for the one ball to strike at goal. Callum and Finn were both getting stuck in and keeping Elland away from Ben’s goal. Ossett were passing it nicely but a quick break from Elland caught out Ossett and as the player ran into the box Kai couldn’t get out of the way as he tried to stop the attacker but clipped his heels and the referee pointed to the spot. Ben went the right way but couldn’t reach the shot which made it 0 v 1 to the visitors. Elland came forward again but Callum, Kai and Jacob kept them out with some good tackling.

Half-time   Ossett Town B 0   v   Elland 1.

After some discussion between the two managers the pitch was shortened to help the players enjoy the game more. This helped Ossett as they put Elland straight under pressure with Jacob passing through to Callum who passed it through to Bailey who’s shot forced a corner, Ossett had another two corners in quick succession but Elland managed to get it away. Another good tackle by Callum kept Elland in the middle of the pitch and Finn was making some good runs and keeping Elland off the ball. Ben made a good save and was passing the ball out really well to his team mates helping them pass it out from the back, Elland got a hold of the ball despite a great tackle from Kai who then set up Jacob who ran with ball and calmly slotted it past the on coming keeper to make it 1 v 1.

Max was making some good runs down the right  and starting to find a way through the Elland defence, a good move from the left saw Bailey win the ball and pass to Finn who ran through the Elland defence like they weren’t there and hit a lovely shot past the keeper to make it 2  v  1.

Max and Bailey were working well on the wings and Callum and Kai were keeping Elland out with Finn and Jacob making runs through the middle, this pressure helped Jacob hit another shot but it went wide. Elland started to get up the pitch a bit more and Max was coming back and making some good tackles but a shot from an Elland player which Ben saved went straight to another Ellland player and after another shot and some scrambling and a mix up the ball ended up in the net to make it  2 v 2.

Ossett were now looking for the win with all the players getting stuck in, but tiredness was creeping in, Max had a good run and shot which the keeper stopped, Bailey and Finn were doing some lovely dribbling but Elland were using all there players to stop them, Kai made a great run from defence with some speed but was stopped just as he was going to shoot by some great defending.

A good performance and two lovely goals, the big pitch didn’t help them much and on a smaller pitch they would’ve won quite comfortably.

Full-Time

C Team:

Ossett Town C v Northowram U7.

Team news. 1. Connor Stanwix 3. John-Charles Mullen. 10. Sam Nightingale 11. Joe Hurdus. 33. Toby Harrison. 33. Luca Teal. 36. Thomas Berry.

It’s a Very damp but mild Sunday morning where Ossett are at home in this friendly with what looks like a strong Northowram team. Ossett are well up for this game and kick off in the first half with Thomas and Luca up front. Sam has an early chance that goes wide. Connor is in goal at the Ossett end and makes a good save. Ossett are under pressure early on in the game and are making some good moves. Thomas has got a chance from a corner but the ball goes out and it’s Luca to take the throw. Toby is in a little battle of his own when the opposition have a good shot saved. Luca stays strong on the ball getting forward at every chance. Joe is lively in midfield. Sam is also working hard with plenty of tackles and little runs. There’s a scramble in the oppositions goal mouth due to the hard work of the whole team. The scramble ends with a great goal and well deserved from Toby. Sam comes off for John-Charles. Still 1v0 to the home side. Thomas again makes some good runs and strong challenges. There’s little battles and runs going on all over the field. Defence is working hard and remains solid. Thomas does well to keep the ball in play and wins a corner. John-Charles makes a good tackle and the half comes to an end. Ossett have done well to keep a clean sheet. HT 1 v 0.

Second half is underway and Ossett have a change of goalie with Sam going in. Northowram to kick off and Ossett are under pressure early on. Ossett are back in it and Toby makes a great pass to Thomas. Strong tackles from Toby ensure the opposition are kept at bay. Toby makes another good run and is unlucky for his shot to go wide. Thomas takes a great shot that’s saved. Joe is defending hard and Luca takes advantage of a mistake where the ball drops to him, Luca shoots and that’s Ossett’s second. Thomas, John-Charles and Toby are working hard all over the park. The ball is kicked out by Ossett and drops to the opposition who take full advantage and get their first goal. That’s unlucky for Sam as he has been excellent and flawless in this second half and deserved the clean sheet. There’s four minutes to go and the games all in the oppositions half. The whole team is working hard for the ball. The final whistle goes and it’s a win for the home side.

Ossett 2 v Northowram 1.

Goal scorers Toby and Luca. MOM all the players.

Well played to the ref Martin who let the game flow and made good and fair decisions. Well done to Kenny and the other coaches. The U7s are a work in progress.

D Team:

Ossett Town “D”  VS Northowram Colts

9 Goal thriller in Ossett fightback.

On a rather Mild but muddy Highfield Ossett prepared to face Northowram after a mid season break. For this 6 a side clash Kenny lined them up with Thomas Maloney in goal, Connor Stanwix and Max Dervisevic in defence, Isaac Holmes in midfield and Charlie Revell-Jackson up front with Hayden Wroe with Jacob Ward on the bench.

Ossett started the clash really well and for the opening few minutes had forced some early pressure with Isaac running the midfield but for all the early pressure no clear chances were created but Ossett remained patient and kept their shape well. From Northowram’s first real foray into the Ossett half Thomas made a good save getting all his body behind the ball, then once the ball was rolled out to Connor he found Isaac in Midfield who after beating a couple of players was soon steaming through on goal only for the Northowram keeper to make a great save. For the opening 10 minute Ossett had held there shape really well with Charlie and Hayden pressing Northowram well leaving the defence largely untroubled but Max was full of energy for anything that managed to get past.  Ossett then seemed to take there foot of the gas and allowed Northowram to come into the game more and they were soon 1-0 down after a powerful shot into the bottom corner just managed to creep over the line after Thomas had got a hand to it, Ossett heads seemed to go down and they were soon 2-0 down as Northowram again broke and after the 1st shot was parried by Thomas Northowram followed it in to score again. This time though Ossett did not let their heads go down and were back to doing the good things they did in the opening 10 minutes with Hayden running the going box to box following a Northowram corner to win one for Ossett and then Hayden and Isaac soon linked up again and the Northowram goalkeeper managed to keep Isaac’s shot out again and Ossett were really unlucky not to have one back. With the last action of the first half Jacob, recently off the bench, pulled a 3rd great save from Northowram Keeper after Connor had played him through with an excellent pass. So at half time Ossett were 2-0 down and unlucky to be so after creating some good chances but had been made to pay for a few minutes of losing their shape.

For the start of the second half Max went in goal with Thomas now playing outfield.

Ossett started the 2nd half much the way of the first and were soon rewarded as Jacob won the ball of the Northowram defence and finally beat the keeper with a low shot into the corner. Ossett again seemed to dwell too much on the goal and soon conceded 2 quick goals after Max had made a great save which Northowram followed in to score to make it 3-1 and he had no chance as powerful shot into the corner made it 4-1 to Northowram.  This seemed to spur the boys on and Isaac began to again assert himself in Midfield and after some good pressing from Hayden and Thomas the ball broke to Isaac who played Jacob through to make it 4-2. Ossett were soon right back in the game after some excellent defence from Charlie allowed Ossett to counter attack and Jacob scored from Long range with a shot into the bottom left hand corner and it was game on. Ossett were suddenly full of confidence and after Isaac had won the ball back he passed it out to Connor on the wing who passed it into Jacob, with an exquisite defence splitting pass, and Jacob finished it from 6 yards out to make it 4-4.  Both teams were now looking to win the game and Northowram were continually thwarted by Charlie in defence as he swept up anything that came his way and Max in goal who made a couple of good saves to keep the scores level. This allowed Isaac to assert himself again in midfield with some well time tackling and powerful runs up the pitch. Ossett went looking for the winner and it soon came as Thomas won the ball in midfield and after some close dribbling played the ball through for Jacob who was now clean through and slammed the ball into the top corner to make it 5-4 to Ossett. Ossett closed the game out with Hayden pressing the ball well and winning it back to allow Isaac to again run with it beating a couple of players and winning a late corner which soon brought full time capping off an excellent Ossett fight back.

An Excellent result for Ossett and great team performance with Max performing excellent in goal and full of energy in defence, Hayden pressing the ball well and going box to box all game not allowing Northowram to play, Thomas did well in goal in the 1st half and set up the winning goal, Charlie was the last line many times and would not let the ball get past him with some strong tackling, Connor’s passing was a standout today with his assist for Jacob a real defence splitting pass and Jacob was a goal machine finishing anything that came his way but man of the match was Isaac being a real standout  performance from Midfield full of energy, great tackling and running with the ball.

Final Word:  I wasn’t at the games today but despite this it seems all the lads did really well, I can see from the reports and the feedback i have had that this was an impressive Ossett display. We have to build on this performance and keep pushing forward as a squad in order to further develop the teams. A big thanks to the coaches, Kenny as always being brilliant and Craig on his first managerial outing helping the lads to play well. Also thanks to the referees and match reporters for this weekend and all of the season.
