Under 7’s Match Reports – Sunday 2nd March

A Team Vs Dewsbury A

Ossett Town 5 – Dewsbury Rangers 5
 .
Team: Kai Hatfield, Sam Nightingale, Callum McGarry, Bailey Goodlad, Callum Fallas and Toby Harrison
 .
After a few weeks off due to bad weather a capacity crowd were eagerly anticipating this game.  Coach Ryan seemed a bit apprehensive that such a long break between games may impact this squad but he need not have worried.
 .
Straight from the kick off Ossett started in dominant fashion with Callum McG making a great run down the right wing
leaving 2 Dewsbury players standing and shooting just wide.  The Dewsbury team could not really cope with the Ossett midfield and when Kai broke through his cross went agonisingly across the face of goal.    Toby was resolute in defence playing an excellent ball through to Callum McG whose shot was saved by the keeper.
  .
Ossett’s perseverance finally paid off when a way ward pass from the Dewsbury defence ricocheted off Sam’s knee into the goal.  This only seemed to waken Dewsbury up though as they came more into the game with Ossett not used to playing against the long ball and large kicks from their ‘keeper.  A long kick from their keeper allowed the opposition forward to run on and score in the top corner.  Despite spirited defending from Toby and Callum F Dewsbury continued to press and scored a further 2 quick goals to make the score 3-1.
  .
The Ossett crowd were beginning to fear the worse but Ossett regrouped and a through ball from Sam set up Callum McG who slotted home in the bottom left corner.  Some excellent play in midfield from Callum F, Toby and Kai with a series of quick interlinking passes fed the ball through to Bailey who ran on and rifled a shot into the top corner leaving the score at 3-3 at Half Time.
 .
The second half started with Dewsbury attacking and some brave goalkeeping from Kai diving at the strikers feet kept Dewsbury at bay.  Finally the Ossett defence were breached with a scrambled Dewsbury goal taking the lead.  The lead did not last long as Kai came out of goal and threw himself into a series of tackles in midfield with the ball ultimately falling at the feet of Bailey who shot into the top corner of the goal.
.
As the game descended into a midfield battle with the 2 Callum’s playing great balls down the wing it appeared a matter of time before Bailey would go on and score a hat trick.  Ossett seemed to tire in the last five minutes and against the run of play Dewsbury scored what seemed like the winner.
.
This only seemed to galvanise the Ossett team though as they went on one last run.  Callum playing a great ball down the wing with Kai stepping inside and feeding Bailey for an effort which the goalkeeper only managed to palm out to the advancing Toby.  Toby steadied himself before firing a shot beyond the outstretched keeper and off the post.  A move which deserved to win any game.
.
All in all a 5-5 draw was a fair result with Ossett trying to play the passing game they have been working so hard on in training.  Well done to all the lads on their hard work today it was a joy to watch.

Ossett Town C Team: Ben Steel, Charlie Ambler, Henry Hughes, Rowan Stephenson, Jacob Ward, Max Massey, Luke Holmes, Connor Stanwix

This was going to be a good test for Ossett against a good Howden Clough side, played on a big 3G pitch. Ossett started off on the front foot with plenty of pressure being put on the ball. Luke was, as always, showing great energy in his play and he won the ball, passed it to Charlie who shot narrowly wide. Ossett were playing their usual quality passing game but the next chance came after a good throw from Charlie – the ball found Henry who shot narrowly over the top of the goal. Max and Rowan were tackling well and the next chance came after Rowan won the ball well and played a fantastic through ball to Henry. Henry found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper but after a heavy first touch it looked like the chance had gone. However, he showed great bravery in challenging the keeper and managed to slide the ball home to make it 1-0 to Ossett. The best goal of the game came next when a great passing move involving the whole team found Luke in a good position on the right. Luke did a great cross to Charlie, who’s shot found the back of the net to make it 2-0. The interchange of passes was great to watch and the team continued to defend well with Rowan being dominant at the back. Howden Clough started to come back into the game and Ben made a couple of good saves to keep it at 2-0. Rowan then made a fantastic headed clearance of the line. As the end of the first half drew near, Town won a throw in. A long throw found Henry in space who slotted the ball home to make it 3-0 at half time.
.
The start of the second half saw Jacob and Connor come onto the pitch in place of Henry & Max. The second half started with a great run from Luke into the box, who dribbled round 2 players before a strong challenge brought him down in the box. No penalty was given, so Howden were able to clear the ball. Jacob and Connor fitted really well into the team, which was maintaining it’s shape and working hard. After 5 minutes of the second half, Howden won the ball on the right. The resulting shot was well saved by Ben but the ball broke to a Howden player who scored to make it 3-1. Max and Henry came back on and were soon involved in defending their goal. The goal for Howden had given them increased confidence and they continued to attack well. They won a corner which, when taken, was unluckily deflected into their own net by Ossett to make it 3-2. Ossett heads didn’t drop and they were playing well. Rowan consistently won the ball in the tackle, Luke was running strongly, Max was working hard in midfield and Ben was having a good game in goal with some great saves. Howden continued to attack but Charlie was working hard to keep them out. 5 minutes from the end of the game saw a cross from Howden cross hit a Ossett hand,at very close range, in the box and a penalty was given. Ben had no chance , as a powerful penalty made it 3-3. There was still time for one more attack from Ossett, as they poured forward looking for the winner. Henry hit a really powerful shot from outside the box, which hit the Howden keeper full in the face and the ball rebounded to safety. Soon after the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

D Team Vs Howden Clough B
.
Ossett Town D Team: Ben Steel, Charlie Ambler, Isaac Donlon, Lucas Stephens, Connor Stanwix, Jacob Ward, Henry Hughes.
.
Ossett were straight into attack in this second game of the day. They soon won a throw near to the Howden box. Lucas’s long throw into the box created great confusion and the ball ended up in the back of the net with no-one getting a touch – a great start from Ossett. Ossett continued to attack and the Howden keeper made 2 great saves from powerful shots from Jacob & Charlie. Isaac, Connor and Ben in goal were being alert at the back. It was soon 1-1 though, when a Howden shot crept into the net. Back came Ossett and a good pass from Lucas found Isaac in space, who’s shot was well saved by the keeper. Jacob was running hard up front and putting very good pressure on Howden whenever they had the ball. Henry was distributing the ball well and Connor continued to show great positioning in his defensive play. It was soon 2-1 to Ossett when Charlie won the ball, evaded a tackle and hit a great shot into the bottom corner. It was an end to end game and Ben made some really good saves to keep the score at 2-1 to Ossett at half time.
 .
Soon after half time, Ben made another great save to keep Ossett ahead. Possession was fairly even between the sides, with both sides playing well. Connor made another good tackle and the ball fell to Henry on the half way line. He knocked the ball past the first defender, shrugged off the challenge of the next defender before striking the ball into the back of the net with a great shot to make it 3-2. Howden continued to press and good defending from Isaac & Connor, and goal keeping from Ben kept them out. They soon scored, however, to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes of the game to go. Town were looking a constant threat and Jacob was unlucky to score on a couple of occasions after some good passes from Isaac.  Howden were also looking threatening in attack and they soon brought the scores level at 3-3. This Ossett side is made of strong stuff – Charlie was working hard to get the ball back and made a number of great forward passes. The whole team was looking to pass the ball about and a string of passes found Jacob in the box – he nutmegged the keeper to make it 4-3 to Ossett. Town were determined to finish the game in style and Lucas made a couple of strong attacking runs. At the end of one of these he was fouled just outside the box – he picked himself up and struck a great free kick into the back of the net to make the final score 5-3 to Ossett.

A very good all-round team performance. Everyone worked hard for each other, maintained their shape and passed the ball well.

A special mention to Kenny and Craig who coached both teams really well, with constant encouragement and support from the side of the pitch. The performance of both teams showed the hard work that you, and all the other coaches, have put in to developing the players.

Good game today. Well played to all the boys and coaches.

.
Final Word: A big well done to everyone that played today, a good quality game for the A and B team against a very direct team. We did really well to shut down our opponents and crafted some good attacks of our own. Good results for the C and D teams in what looks like was a really tough day! It sounds like the good football was on show again which is very impressive. The final friendly between our own teams was a good game played in a good manner to top off an overall good day.
