Under 9 Harriers win Ossett Town Gala, 12 July 2014

The Under 9s took three team’s to our very own Ossett Town gala this afternoon.

The Phantoms and Warriors missed out in their competitions, despite both winning their groups with some confident flowing football.  The  Phantoms lost cruelly in the semi-final with an unlucky own goal and the Warriors went down in the quarter-finals.

So today Town’s hopes rested on the Harriers, who after a slow start in the group stage, found themselves with a tough semi-final against group winners Wyke.  The boys rose to the challenge with a confident 2-0 win – an OG and a Calum B goal saw them through.  In the final they faced Upperthong.  The Harriers took the lead with a superb, instinctive Calum B half-volley.  Upperthong threw everything at the Harriers, and despite some resolute defending, Upperthong equalised late in normal time.  Into extra time and the battle was end to end.  The winner came as the ball broke to Matthew; he strode forward and struck another superb long range effort into the top corner to put Town ahead.  Fantastic!  There was still time for a last minute corner kick for Upperthong as they tried to equalise, but Jack saved well at the feet of the Upperthong striker.  The final whistle went and was met with jubilant cheers and smiles as the boys won their first tournament.  Brilliant!

Well done to Jack, Matthew, Rowan, Calum B, Calum S, Thomas and Bailey. The pictures below say it all!

A great way to end the season!

Have a fabulous summer break all.  See you at the end ofAugust 🙂
