U10 Match Reports v Northowram, Sunday 1st March 2015
The Phantoms lined up as follows – Lucas in goal, and a selection of Jayden, Ben, Billy, Eddie, Dom, Jamie, Alexander and Tyler making up the outfield positions.
The game kicked off, and at long last some coordinated, controlled football from the Phantoms! With some excellent passing and communication, the home side kept possession well, putting pressure on the Northowram defence, and easily dealing with any of their attacking moves.
Jamie, Dom and Eddie were busily working together to create chances , and some crunching tackles form Billy and some incisive passing from Ben forced all the play into the Northowram half, leaving Jayden at the back to mop up anything that came his way, and initiate the next foray forward with some clever distribution. The Phantoms were well on top without having any clear cut chances. Northowram did manage a breakaway effort, and Lucas saved well to push the ball over the bar.
As the half went on, the Phantoms maintained the pressure, and Billy was the catalyst behind all the driving forward moves. One move, started from the back with Jayden, resulted in Billy rounding a defender and his powerful shot was well saved by the visiting keeper.
Confidence was spreading in the Northowram team, and as they started to string some passes together, the Phantoms began to lose some of their shape. Right on half time Ossett were hit with a sucker punch as Northowram scored with a rasping shot from the edge of the box.
Half-time: OTJ Phantoms 0 -v 1 Northowram A
The second half was vey tight, both teams cancelling each other out as the Phantoms did their best to get back into the game. Some fantastic tackling from Billy and Jayden, and a great save from Lucas, cleared off the line by Jayden, was followed by the highlight of the half. A brilliant turn and run from Eddie down the left wing ended with a cross to Tyler, who shot just over the bar, the ball bobbling just as he struck it. Try as they might, the Phantoms just couldn’t quite find the equaliser they deserved.
Full-time: OTJ Phantoms 0 v 1 Northowram A
Despite the defeat, this was the best team performance we have seen from the Phantoms in weeks – a really entertaining encounter. More of the same next week boys please! Player of the match was Billy, very well-deserved after an imperious performance, and was unlucky not to score. Well done Billy
Thanks to Nigel Parkinson for his match report.
Sorry no match report this week. A very entertaining end to end game this morning littered with some fine junior football from both teams. The Warriors once again produced some superb, fluid passing play and scored some fabulous goals – notably a sweeping move from back to front finished expertly by Emmanuel. Well done to Jacob for his left foot finish and for forcing an own goal with a fine driven cross. However, the difference this morning was decision-making – at 3 v 3 the game was evenly matched – just a couple of moments where we decided to try a trick or take on one man too many – and not take the easy passing option available – meant the boys were caught on the counter attack twice late on as they pushed for a winner of their own. A lesson to be learned, but a really enjoyable game of football to watch for all. Very well done to both sets of boys!
Full-time: OTJ Warriors 3 v 5 Northowram Bulls
Sorry no match report this week. The Harriers struggled to find their energy and rhythm this morning against a very strong Northowram C team. The boys need to find more determination and consistency of effort against the stronger teams!
Better attendance at training required please from the Harriers squad!
