U10 Warriors Match Report v Lepton, Sunday 22nd March 2015

warriors1

The Warriors played the third game of the day with Alexander making a guest appearance between the sticks, and Lucas, Sam, Jacob, Jamaine, Cai, and Seth outfield.  The Warriors started brightly, their neat passing and movement creating some promising opportunities, but not quite enough for a goal scoring chance.  The visitors’ pressure continued, and when they were awarded a free kick deep in the Lepton half Jacob stepped up and fired in the opening goal, low to the keeper”s right.  Control of the game remained with the Warriors, Sam and Lucas looking extremely assured in defence, starting the forward moves with some intelligent distribution.  Ossett’s dominance soon paid off.  Seth”s long range shot was well saved, and in a crowded penalty area, Jamaine was I hand to put away the rebound.

The chances kept coming.  Cai, Lucas and Jacob combined well down the right, producing a promising through ball for Jamaine, but his shot was saved.  The same midfield trio then created a chance for Seth, but he couldn’t quite put away the cross with a difficult first time shot.  Cai then had a shot of his own saved, and the Warriors ended the half on top, and two goals to the good.

The second half started as the first had ended, with the Warriors maintaining a firm grip on the game with some great teamwork, keeping Lepton at arms length and creating one or two half chances.  It was a surprise therefore, when a bouncing ball created some confusion in the Ossett defence, and a Lepton forward was the first to pounce, and slot the ball past Alexander to get them back into the game.

As the half wore on, the Warriors battled bravely without any substitutes, and Lepton began to get a foothold in the game.  Alexander was increasingly being called upon as the Ossett boys gradually tired, but he was in the right place at the right time to prevent the opposition grabbing an equaliser.  In an exciting climax to the game, Alexander bravely dived at the feet of another Lepton forward, and the Warriors celebrated a very well deserved victory at the final whistle.

Full-time: Lepton Highlanders B 1 v 2 OTJ Warriors

Player of the match: A fantastic performance by the Warriors, showing great teamwork and resolve, despite being a man or two short of their full squad!  The whole team played very well – Alexander was brave and alert in goal; Sam was a rock in defence; Lucas started some great attacking moves with some skillful footwork; Seth was the linchpin of the midfield, controlling the play; Jamaine’s silky skills almost created more goal scoring chances; Cai’s tenacious tackling and Jacob’s tireless running all combined to give the Player of the Match Award to the entire team. Well done to all of the Warriors!
