Ladies First Team vs. Altofts Match Report

After an important win last weekend against Brayton, Ossett made the short trip to Altofts looking to remain on top of the West Riding Premier Division.

Ossett were first out of the blocks and nearly took the lead after just 30 seconds; in form winger Danielle Sidebottom’s shot just fizzing past the far post.

Town continued to build and were extremely well organised. The breakthrough came after 20 minutes; a ball out wide to Sidebottom and a perfect cross for Caroline Omboyi to head past the keeper. Sidebottom got herself on the scoresheet after half an hour; breaking through the Altofts defence and coming inside to finish low into the far corner.

Ossett dominated the first half and should have been further in front. Altofts had the woodwork to thank on a couple of occasions and the score remained 0-2 to Ossett at the break.

The second half kicked off just like the first and Ossett got their third after an hour. Sidebottom’s deep cross found Vicki Jackson who finished high into the net for her first of the season.

Soon after, Altofts made a number of changes and switched to a more attacking formation. Full credit to them as they piled on the pressure; Ossett’s suicidal high line invited Altofts to get in behind them and they managed to pull a goal back after 70 minutes. Still Altofts came at Ossett as the away side began to tire under the hot conditions. Gemma Huskins made way for Lyndsey Benson for the last 10 minutes as Ossett brought on fresh legs. Benson took control at the back as Ossett nearly grabbed another – Omboyi again hitting the woodwork as the score line remained.

Full time; Altofts 1 – 3 Ossett Town. The Player of the Match was Clare Thomasson.

Ossett’s next fixture for their First Team will be at home against Hepworth United on Sunday 11th October. KO 2pm.
