Ossett Town 1 v 3 Horton Foxes - Challenge Cup (Semi final)

Ossett Town Goalscorers : James Bree

For the second year running, Town were knocked out in the semi-final. On an exposed pitch, Town failed to take advantage of a driving wind at their backs in the first half. In a frantic first few minutes, Horton settled the quicker and opening the scoring on just four minutes with a well-worked goal, resulting in a deep cross from the right being tapped home at the back post. Town replied quickly as James Bree latched on to a long goal kick, breaking past the defence, to calmly side-foot home. Much of the remainder of the first half was scrappy in difficult conditions, but Horton took the lead with a low driven cross beating the Town keeper at the near post on twenty-three minutes.

At the start of the second half, Town made a strong start. A James Bree free-kick was tipped over the cross-bar, and from the resulting corner, James Bree had a header blocked. At the other end, Matthew Depledge made a fine save, before Alex Broadhead had a powerful shot blocked. The chances dried up as Horton used the conditions to pen Town into their own half for long spells. A succession of corners were dealt with by the Town defence who came out the game with great credit. A long solo run by captain Danny Bell inspired the team for the last few minutes with Josh Pamment and James Bree both shooting just wide, before Horton grabbed the third goal in the last minute with a good header finishing off a good move.

MotM went jointly to Danny Maddocks for a strong midfield performance against a very good and mobile opposition.

Collingham 4 v 2 Ossett Town - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Daniel Heyward, James Bree

Town nearly took something out of a game after again having to come from a first half defict. The thawing pitch improved as the game wore on, but was a problem for both defences. The first half started with the two sides largely cancelling each other out. Collingham were second in the league at the start of play, and played with some confidence but the early stages had very little goal mouth action. It took a dubious penalty for hand-ball to give the home team the lead on 13 minutes. Daniel Heyward had a speculative shot saved as Town tried for a quick response, but Collingham's dominance grew and the quickly went further ahead with a good move down their right. Josh Pamment, deuptising in goal, got a hand to the shot but it nestled in the corner. Town held on, but offered little going forward in the first half.

Not for the first time, Town came to life in the second half. A goal mouth scramble ended with Daniel Heyward looping a header over the keeper, who looked like he had recovered to scoop the ball out of the net, but the referee gave the goal. Midway through the second half, Town equalised as James Bree turned on the edge of the box, breaking through their defence, before slotting into the bottom corner. Against the run of play, Collingham regained the lead with a fine move, again down their right. That left Town ten minutes to respond. In a frantic last few minutes Town had a succession of corners, which were largely scrambled away, although Will Pollitt did have a shot against the post from one of them. Right at the death, Collingham scored with a breakaway goal down their right, with Town outnumbered at the back.

MotM went Rowan Naylor-Myers for his strong and confident second half display in defence against an accomplished attack.

Farsley Celtic 2 v 3 Ossett Town - Challenge Cup (Quarter final)

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Daniel Heyward, Josh Pamment, Will Pollitt

Town booked their place in the semi-final with a terrific second half performance in a thrilling game. The slope of the pitch meant it was likely to be a game of two halves, and Farlsey took an early advantage with a well worked goal on 6 minutes. Up the hill Town created some openings with James Bree going close twice and the home keeper made a great double save to deny Will Pollitt. At the other end Farsley looked dangerous and twice hit the bar in a period when Town ewre definitely on the back foot. A great defensive performace from Connor Rigg also helped keep the score at 1-0 at half time.

Despite playing down the slope in the second half, Town found themselves 2-0 down straight from the kick off. To their credit, their heads did not drop and they started to create a number of chances. A great move down the right saw a James Bree cross-shot fly over the keeper and be tapped home by Daniel Heyward just before it went over the line. Town were now dominating and Daniel Heyward had another fine shot well saved, and James Bree also had a low drilled shot saved. Will Pollitt got in the action with a shot against the post. At the other end Town looked more solid with a great second half performance from Adam Wilson. Connor Rigg also continued his good work with some crunching tackles in midfield. The equaliser seemed inevitable and finally came with James Bree running the ball in along the by-line, setting up Josh Pamment. His initial shot hit the bar, but he was on hand to fire home the rebound. The winner came with Will Pollitt latching on to a long ball over the top and lobbing the keeper from outside the area. Town endured a frantic last few minutes with some desperate defending, and some brave goalkeeping from Matthew Depledge.

MotM went jointly to Daniel Heyward for a great all-round midfield performance, capped by the goal that got Town back into the game.

Ossett Town 5 v 3 Yorkshire Amateurs - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Tom Wilson, James Bree, Will Pollitt (3)

Town left it late but returned to winning ways to get the double ver Yorkshire Amateurs.

Starting brightly, Will Pollitt had a shot just over in the first minute, and after just three minutes Town took the lead.

James Bree put in a deep cross from the right hand side that evaded everyone except for Tom Wilson, who got a touch just as it was crossing the line.

James Bree then had a goal disallowed for offside as Town threatened a repeat of the score-line from earlier in the season when Town won 11-1. To their credit the visitors came more into the game and equalised after a defensive mix-up.

Town were struggling to cope with the visitors lone striker and only two great last ditch tackles from Danny Bell and Adam Wilson kept the scores level, until Town fell behind after again failing to clear the ball when they had the opportunity.

At the other end, Town were capable of creating chances, as Josh Pamment had a shot against the post. Tom Wilson and Will Pollitt combined well, but Will's shot was saved before Town did draw level. James Bree was set free down the left hand side, and took it round the advancing keeper, before slotting home from a narrow angle.

Town fell behind on the stroke of half-time to an unfortunate Adam Wilson own goal.

Town did not start the second half well, and were unable to put any solid moves together for the first ten minutes or so. Deputising in goal for the second half, Josh Pamment was twice called on to make fantastic saves to keep Town in the game.

The first fluid move of the half brought the equaliser. Covering the length of the field, a number of passes ended with Tom Wilson playing in Will Pollitt for a smart finish from close to the penalty spot.

Confidence returned and Town starting playing with more composure. Down the right hand side, Connor Rigg made some great driving runs that helped to maintain pressure on the visitors, and it was only a matter of time before Town were able to secure the points. Will Pollitt grabbed his second pouncing on a long ball, beating the defence with his pace and finishing with a low drive.

Will Pollitt then completed his hat-trick with cool finish into the bottom corner.

MotM went jointly to Will Pollitt for his second half hat-trick and to Connor Rigg for a strong second half midfield performance after deputising in goal during the first half.

St Joseph's 4 v 1 Ossett Town - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Daniel Heyward

After such a long period with no games, Town put in a good performance against one of the better teams in the division, especially in the second half. After an even start, St Joseph's took control with some clinical finishing. Two attacks down the right created the first tow goals. The first came from a good move, with a low cross tapped in. The second low cross was cleared, but the follow-up shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner. Matthew Depledge made a couple of good saves, and at the other end Will Pollitt had a couple of efforts, one just wide, and one well-saved after a James Bree cross. St Joseph's scored a third after a mix-up on the edge of the box, again clinically finished. James Bree had a shot from distance just over the bar, before a penalty for St Joseph's made it 4-0.

Into the second half, Town were quicker to the ball and scored quickly. A shot from James Bree was parried by the keeper, and Connor Rigg was on hald to cross the follow-up for Daniel Heyward to head Town back into the game. For long periods Town dominated, and St Joseph's rarely threatened in a one-sided second half. The home keeper was a safe pair of hands and dealt well with shots from Will Pollitt and Tom Wilson. The best move of the game involved half the Town team, and ended with a Connor Rigg shot rattling the crossbar. Despite their efforts Town could not further reduce the deficit, but should take plenty of positives from the second half performance.

MotM went to Stuart Dyson for a strong display at left back, battling hard against good opposition in the first half, and keeping the same quality opponent quiet in the second half.

Ossett Town 6 v 9 Farsley Celtic - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : James Bree, Will Pollitt (3), Tom Wilson, 1 OG

As the scoreline suggests, the overall defending by both teams left a lot to be desired.

Farsley started brightly and looked quick and composed on the break, but it was Town who took the lead against the run of play, James Bree tucking home from close range from a corner.

It did not take long, though, for Farsley to gain the initiative. An attack down their right resulted in a powerful shot that Stuart Dyson did well to save, but they were quicker to the follow up.

Immediately after, Stuart was on hand to tip another shot over the bar. As the first half wore on Town were second to most balls and allowed Farsley to play. With this licence to play, they capitalised with 4 goals in the last ten minutes of the half, all well-taken but all poorly defended.

Immediately into the second half they scored in similar style, again down the right, where the winger was allowed to dribble close in to the goal before shooting from close range.

Throughout the game Town loooked a threat going forward, but found always found their defenders close at hand. In a mad five minute spell Town looked like they might get something from the game with three quick-fire goals.

The first was an OG from the edge of the box after good work from Will Pollitt and Alex Broadhead. The second came from a powerful Jame Bree cross that Will Pollitt got a toe to, and Tom Wilson scored from close range from a corner.

Farsley responded with three goals of their own before a fine lob from the touchline by Will Poliitt, and another powerful shot from a through ball, again by Will Pollitt finished off the scoring.

MotM went to Will Pollitt for taking his chances that and keeping the score closer than the performance merited. Town have the chance to put things right against Farsley in the cup next week.

Ossett Town 5 v 2 Collingham - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : James Bree (2), Bradley Thackray, Connor Rigg, Will Pollitt

Town's recent good form was always going to be tested, against the unbeaten league leaders. The visitors looked a good solid team early on but Town were equal to them. In a tight first half there were precious few chances as both defences held strong.

The visitors took the lead on 18 minutes when the Town defence failed to close down a wide player, who crossed, and the striker headed home. James Bree had one effort over the bar, and Will Pollitt had a left foot shot saved, but there was little else of note in the first half.

The second half was completely different with chances galore.

James Bree levelled quickly pressuring a hig bouncing ball, before clinically driving into the bottom corner. Will Pollitt had another shot just wide before Bradley Thackray scored his first ever goal for Town, managing to get a header from a corner in a packed penalty area. James Bree then had a shot saved as Town grew in confidence.

At the other end, Stuart Dyson pulled off an unbelieveable save, palming away with a strong hand from a powerful strike. Immediately, James Bree brought an impressive save out of the keeper at the other end, before the visitors drew level.

They had grown in confidence down their right hand side and another powerful shot from this side was again saved by Staurt Dyson, but their striker was on hand to tap home.

Town reacted well, with Tom Wilson threading a ball through for James Bree to fire home. James Bree had another shot saved, and the visiting keeper tipped a Will Pollitt effort wide before Connor Rigg bundled home from a corner.

With a couple of minutes to go, a great pass from Danny Heyward sent Will Pollitt on a solo run down the left. He cut inside two defenders and a fired a shot over the keeper for a fantasctic goal.

MotM went to Bradley Thackray for another battling midfield performance capped with his first ever goal.

Leeds City Colts 2 Ossett Town 6 - Challenge Cup

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Will Pollitt (2), Tom Wilson (2), Josh Pamment, Connor Rigg

Town went safely through to the next round with a solid display on a very heavy pitch. They were quickly ahead when Tom Wilson went passed a couple of defenders on the left hand side before squaring for Will Pollitt to finish from close range.

James Bree had a great run down the same side with a powerful shot that just went wide. At the other end Stuart Dyson was called upon to make a great save, although the 3-man defence were generally on top.

Town created some good opportunities in a tough first half but could not build on their early lead.

Town started the second half strongly and scored two quick goals. Danny Bell first headed down a corner for Josh Pamment to score, and shortly after James Bree had a powerful strike well saved, but Will Poliit tapped in the rebound.

After a great 1-2 with Will, Alex Broadhead brought another fine save, and Connor Rigg went close sliding in at the back post as town threatened a goal avalanche.

To their credit Leeds City kept going and reduced the arrears with a powerful shot. Town restored the advantage with a fine team goal. James Bree and Josh Pamment worked the ball down the right and from the croos, Connor Rigg laid it back across the goal for Tom Wilson to score.

Will Pollitt then turned provider for Tom Wilson again who scored with an excellent lob from inside the area. Connor Rigg brought a great double save from the kepper before the home team scored again, capitalising on space through the middle.

Connor Rigg did get on the scoresheet with a powerful close-range effort from a corner.

MotM went to James Bree for a dominant midfield display on a very difficult surface.

Yorkshire Amateurs 1 v 11 Ossett Town - Garforth Junior League

Ossett Town Goalscorers : James Bree (4), Will Pollitt (4), Tom Wilson, Josh Pamment, Frazer Ellis

Town produced their best league performance of the season, with a dominant performance from the first whistle. James Bree opened the scoring on 3 minutes reaching a long ball to the left wing just ahead of the onrushing keeperl, and slotting into an empty net. Tom Wilson hit a post before Will Pollitt extended the lead on 6 minutes, latching on to a James Bree long throw from the right hand side. On 12 minutes the lead was extended with a great team goal. Josh Pamment played Tom Wilson in down the right, who played a lovely chipped pass towards the near post for Will Pollitt to finish. The opposition then came into the game and for the next 15 minutes posed lots of problems, but the 3-man defence of Danny Bell, Adam Wilson and Daniel Heyward defended fantastically to keep them out.

Into the second half, James Bree scored an early goal, after which the oposition heads fell, with a solo effort down the left finsihed with a powerful left foot strike. Alex Broadhead's nifty footwork gave Tom Wilson the opportunity to slide home to make it 5-0 shortly after. The goals flew literally flew in after that. Josh Pamment scored with fine strike from the edge of the box. Will Poliitt grabbed a couple more, with one of the superbly rounding the keeper and scoring from a narrow angle. James Bree also scored another two, one each either side of the home team's consolation goal, which was possibly the only lapse at the back all game. Frazer Ellis rounded off the scoring with a delicate chip from close range.

MotM went to Danny Bell for marshalling a great defence in the first half when it was needed, and providing encouragement to all his team-mates throughout the game.

Sunday 1 November 2009

Ossett Town 1 Keighley Shamrocks 5

County Cup

Ossett Town Goalscorers : James Bree

Town went out of the County Cup, although the scoreline was somewhat flattering. With a strong wind blowing each half was dominated by the team with the wind at their backs. The visitors played with the wind in the first half, but it was Town who created the early chances, with Tom Wilson, James Bree and Will Pollitt all finding the keeper in good form, and Josh Pamment had a header just over. After looking dangerous from corners early on, it was the visitors who took the lead with another corner that was initially cleared but the resulting shot flew in from the corner of the box on 18 minutes. That set-back knocked Town out of their stride for the remainder of the half, and they fell further behind on 26 minutes.

With the wind at their backs in the second half Town exerted more pressure with 3 early chances going to Will Polliit, Tom Wilson and James Bree. Against the run of play, the visitors stetched their lead. After a missd penalty they scored from yet another corner. Back at the other end, James Bree had one shot saved on to the post, and Alex Broadhead shot over. Josh Pamment had a shot saved and after hitting another over the bar, James Bree finally scored with an unstoppable effort into the top right corner. The visitors reacted well, and looked strong on the counter attack. Connor Rigg cleared one of the line and Adam Wilson headed off the line, but it was the visitors who killed the game with a corner that was poorly defended and scrambled home. They added a fifth just before the end to give the flattering final score.

MotM went to James Bree for a dominant display, especially with his numerous second half efforts that threatened a comeback.

Challenge Cup

Ossett Town 11 v 2 Yorkshire Amateurs Colts 2

Ossett Town Goalscorers : Will Pollitt (5), Tom Wilson (2), James Bree, Connor Rigg, Alex Broadhead, own goal

Town comfortably made it through to the next round against lowere league opposition. They opened the scoring from the kick-off with a well worked move, resulting in a Connor Rigg low cross and Tom Wilson sliding in to score. A couple of minutes later Connor Rigg was on hand to score from a corner. Despite the eventual scoreline, Town were up against an excellent keeper and he denied Will Pollitt on a number of occasions with great saves. James Bree and Tom Wilson also went close before the visitors scored with their first meaningful attack of the game on 12 minutes. James Bree had a fine free-kick that looked like it crossed the line before Tom Wilson calmed the nerves with a cool finish, and when Stuart Dyson turned a shot on to the post Town never looked back. Before half time, Town Wilson played a lovely through ball for Will Pollitt to finally score. James did score from a corner with a sharp turn and volley on the strke of half-time.

Into the second half, Town started strongly again with Tom Wilson crossing for Will Pollitt to head home. Josh Pamment had a fine game in midfield and played in Alex Broadhead to finish. Matthew Depledge made a great save, and from the resulting goalkick Will Pollitt ran through to claim his hat-trick. Matthew Depledge was on hand to save well again and just keep the ball out, although he did get tangled up in the nets. Will grabbed a fourth in almost identical circumstances, this time with a cool lob finish. The visitors pulled a goal back with a fantastic long range strike, but Town kept creating chances. Adam Wilson forced an own goal from a corner with good pressure and a great move involving Josh Pamment and Stuart Dyson on the left finished with a great cross for Will to score again.

MotM went to Will Pollitt for a his five goals and positive attitude to keep going after being denied so many times by the keeper.

Sunday 11th October 2009

Ossett Town 1 v 7 St Joseph's (Garforth JFL)

Town knew this match would be tough against last year's runners up, and another poor start ended any chance of gaining some points. The visitors did all the simple things really well, and exploited hesitancy and mistakes made by Town. Without having to do too much work, with some simple pass and move football, the visitors were 4-0 after just ten minutes. In that time Town had probably had as much of the ball and had a couple of close efforts themselves. After such a blistering start a combination of the visitors easing off and Town putting in more effort gave a much more even contest. James Bree and Will Pollitt both went close, but the visitors extended their lead on 22 minutes with a great team move from their own half. A penalty just before half-time gave the visitors a 6-0 lead at the break.

Town put up a much better show in the second half, and created many chances. Some great football from all the attacking players created chances for Will Pollitt, James Bree and Alex Broadhead. At the back Town were much more solid and organised, although they did fall 7-0 with the move of the match. To their credit, Town kept playing and James Bree scored a consolation goal with a great run and shot. For the whole game, the visitors defence and keeper held firm, and Town had to work really hard to create the chances they did. At least, the visitors knew they had been in a game for the second half.

MotM went to Connor Rigg for a battling performance for the whole sixty minutes against strong midfield opposition.

Sunday 4th October 2009

Ossett Town 4 BD3 United 3

County Cup

Town eventually made it through to the next round of the County Cup after gifting the visitors a great start. Some hesitant defending left Town two goals down after just four minutes. On both occasions, although there was some promising approach play from the visitors, there was more than one opportunity not taken to clear, and Town looked like they had a mountain to climb. James Bree brought Town some confidence with some driving runs and shots at goal to at least exert some pressure, and cut the deficit with a fantastic shot from 30 yards into the tiop corner. Tom Wilson had a shot cleared off the line, and Stuart Dyson headed over from close range before Town drew level. Connor Rigg had a great run on the right and was brought down for a penalty, which James Bree converted. Town dominated the remainder of the half, but fell behind in similar fashion to the early goals right on half-time.

Into the second half, Town dominated with Will Pollitt going close on a couple of occasions. Town drew level again on 43 minutes when a Stuart Dyson cross was flicked on by James Bree, for Will Pollitt to head home. Alex Broadhead shot just over, and Connor Rigg had two good efforts before what felt like an inevitable winner. The visitors threw people forward in search of an equaliser and left gaps at the back. After both Will Pollitt and Josh Pamment attempted difficult shots when a pass to the other was on, they finally combined for Will to lob a pass to Josh tap in to an empty net at the back post. Town could have extended the lead but also had anxious moments at the back in the closing stages, but held on to go through.

MotM went to James Bree for two great goals and a performance that brought his team back into the game.

Sun 27 Sep 2009

Garforth Villa 3 v 2 Ossett Town

Garforth Junior Football League

Town played their part in an exciting game, but only really camealive in the second half. Town started slowly, and Garforth did not have to work particularly hard to create chances. The warning of an early header against the crossbar was not heeded, and Garforth took the lead on 13 minutes. A long-range shot was saved by Matthew Depledge, but Garforth reacted quicker to follow-up. Chances were at a premium but Town were fortunate to only trail by a single goal at the break.

The second half started in the same vain and it was only 5 minutes old when Garforth extended their lead with an excellent shot from the corner of the box, following a well-cleared corner. Town then came to life, with an immediate response. A sustained attack moved the ball from the right wing to find Stuart Dyson free on the left to slot home with a confident finish. Town grew in confidence and started to dominate, although they were guilty of not picking up their share of loose balls in midfield. Matthew Depledge was called on to make a great save to his right before Town equalised. A fine solo effort saw James Bree attack down the right before cutting inside to beat three defenders and finish from a narrow angle. The last five minutes were frantic with Town searching for a winner. Will Pollitt headed wide from a great Stuart Dyson cross, but it was Garforth who stole the points in the last minute, again capitalising on a loose ball before finishing well.

MotM went to Daniel Heyward for a strong and confident display at left back.
