Kippax Gala Winners - U9s

The U9s Pumas did it again with another gala win, this time at Kippax.  Town started brightly winning their first three games - 1 v 0 against Rothwell Town Blues with Spencer getting the solitary goal; 2 v 0 against Rothwell Town Reds with Spencer on the scoresheet again and a wonder free-kick from Fishman; the third group game was again 1 v 0 with Spencer getting the goal against Garforth Blues.  In the fourth group game, and with Ossett already through, Town took their foot off the gas and went down to a 2 v 1 defeat to Garforth Reds with Town's goal courtesy of Dickinson-Brown following a corner.  In the semi-final, Town were up against Ferry Fryston and won comfortably with a 2 v 0 win, both goals coming from Spencer.  In the final, Town faced Garforth Reds for the second time in a day, but this time took control of the game from the off.  The winning goal came from an excellent piece of skill and determination from Oliver Dickinson-Brown, beating three players before blasting the ball past the keeper.  The game ended 1 v 0 and Ossett Town were worthy champions against a good Garforth team.  Hardy was his usual confident self in goals; the defence of Boden and McDaid were immense today; the hard-working Oliver-Dickinson, Matty Rogers and Max Wilson never stopped running in the midfield roles, and the trusted feet of Spencer and Fishman meant Town scored some excellent goals.  The Panthers narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals by one point.  Well done guys.

Cumberworth Gala Winners - U9s

The U9s Pumas made it two gala wins in two days after winning the Cumberworth Plate.  Whilst the Pumas were unbeaten all day, it took two penalty shoot-outs to secure the win.  In the semi-final, a 0 v 0 draw was enough to get to a penalty shoot-out which Town won 3 v 2.  In the final Town were losing 1 v 0 to Linthwaite A and looked to be taking runners-up spot when Matty Rogers equalised with a sublime pass into the net with the last kick of he game.  The penalty shoot-out went to sudden-death with Town coming out winners at the end of the day 5 v 4.  Special mention also goes to to Matty Rogers who got his 100th goal for Town today as part of a six-goal haul.  The Panthers narrowly missed the knock-out stage after a battling performance losing out on goal difference - well done guys.

Howden Clough Gala Winners - U9s

The U9s took the champions spot in the Howden Clough gala after beating Saville Town in the final after penalties.  Ossett Town Pumas had a great day not conceding a goal in open play all day and confidently scoring their four penalties in the final shoot-out.  Goalkeeper Harry Hardy saved one penalty and Saville Town missed the other for Ossett to take the gala winners trophy, winning 4 v 1 on penalties after a tense 0 v 0 draw.

Gildersome Gala Runners Up - U9s

Town were edged into the runners up spot following another closely contested final which saw Gildersome Spurs beat Ossett Town U9s Pumas 1 v 0.  Ossett Town U9s Panthers also had a great day reaching the semi-finals.

Rastrick Gala Champions - U9s

Final score: Waterloo Wanderers 2 v 2 Ossett Town Panthers

Goalscorer: Mathew Rogers (2)

Man of the match: The whole panthers team

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman

A cold breezy afternoon saw the Panthers kick off there last league game of the season against Waterloo Wanderers, The Panthers played there first half of the game on a downhill slope and the team line up consisted of Harry Hardy in the goals, Edward Colley and Thomas Wright further up the field was left midfielder Mark Scott, centre midfielder Christopher Colley and the right midfielder was Callum Burden the lone ranger up front was Mathew Rogers.

There was an energetic vibe to the team today and corner from Mathew Rogers led to an attempt at goal, some fantastic defending was seen by Edward Colley and Thomas Wright as the Wanderers pushed up towards the Panthers half of the field.

A long kick from Callum Burden narrowly missed the Wanderers goals, a rest was given to Mark Scott, Thomas Wright and Christopher Colley and on came Lewis Wardman, Harry Graves and Jamie White who took to there places very quickly and got stuck into the game, the Panthers came into danger when a high ball was heading for the Panthers goal but Harry Hardy jumped up and saved the ball.

Halftime score Waterloo Wanderers 0 - 0 Ossett Town Panthers

A slight change in the team for the second half saw Jamie White in the goals and Lewis Wardman and Edward Colley in defence, Harry Graves was on the left wing, Harry Hardy was in centre midfield and Callum Burden was on the right wing and up front was Mathew Rogers.

A good long kick from the Waterloo Wanderers side saw the ball hit the goal post and bounce into the net to make them get on the score sheet 1-0,

The Panthers were not long before they got onto the score board with a nice goal from Mathew Rogers to even the score out to 1-1, Harry Hardy got the ball and off he went up the field where Mathew Rogers was waiting and a lovely pass to Mathew Rogers from Harry Hardy saw Mathew Rogers score another goal to go ahead 2-1.

Waterloo was determined to even the score and after mumerous attempts they got a goal back, full time whistle blew.

Final score Waterloo Wanderers 2 - 2 Ossett Town Panthers.

Man of the match went to the whole who all played there part and put 100% effort into the game, well done boys.

Final score: Ossett Town Pumas 1 v 6 Longcroft Lions A

Goalscorer: Dan Fletcher

Man of the match: Dan Fletcher

Match reporter: James Rogers

The Pumas took to the field for their last league game of the season against a strong Longcroft Lions team who were looking for a win to take the league title.  Ossett started tentatively and within ten minutes were three goals down following one outstanding goal from Longcroft and another two when Lions capitalised on Town's failure to clear their lines.  Ryan Allen and Marshall Boden did battle well in defence but the attacking nature of Longcroft's play meant they had a lot to do.  Harry Hardy was once again outstading in goal and made several impressive saves throughout the game.  Town did have their chances with Bradley Woollin and Oli Spencer working hard but they found the opposition keeper in excellent form.  In the second half Joe Holliday helped settle the defence and Cameron Spurr was back on in midfield.  Dan Fletcher scored a goal that will go down as one of the best I have seen this season - from 20 yards out Fletcher was tearing down the wing, he looked up saw the keeper off of his line and let go with a long range shot which flew into the net just under the cross-bar giving the keeper no chance.  Town thought they were back into the game, but two more quick goals capitalising on Town's failure to once again clear the ball put paid to any fightback Town might have been able to muster.  Longcroft scored one more late goal to make it a 6 v 1 comprehensive win over Town and became well deserved champions.  Joe McDaid and Oli Spencer shined for Town, but the player of the match award went to the formidable Dan Fletcher for his overall play and an outstanding goal.

Final score: Ossett Town Panthers 1 v 1 Longcroft Lions B

Goalscorer: Luke Hubbard

Man of the match: Luke Hubbard

Match reporter: James Rogers

The Panthers took to the field having to play a friendly game rather than a league game due to Longcroft not having sufficient players and having to play some A team players.   Town started the brightest with Ethan Morris, Tom Danson, Will Hall and Luke Hubbard all coming close.   Town scored first through the hard-working Luke Hubbard.  Seb Fealy put in a solid performance in midfield supported by Alex Jolly.  Scott Rankin was solid in goal and was able to keep a clean sheet in the first half.  In the second half, Town pressed for another goal with Alistair Haigh working hard in midfield and Harrison Joss defending impressively.  Longcroft though did have their own chances and in the second half scored a good equaliser.   Town had the better of the football and chances in the last five minutes and could have won with a little more luck on their side.  Player of the match was Luke Hubbard for a hard-working performance and a good goal.

Final score: Ossett Town Pumas 1 v 2 Battyeford

Goalscorer: Callum Burden

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman

Scott Rankin in the goals and his defence line consisted of Edward Colley and Marshall Boden and further up the field was Christian Hamer, Seb Fealy and Christopher Colley and up front was Mark Scott, Callum Burden was on the sub line.

It was clear from the start that the Pumas wanted an exciting game and various attempts at the goals were made from Mark Scott, Christopher Colley and Seb Fealy but the Battyeford goalkeeper was having none of it, the frontline team were doing some excellent passing between themselves, a change of a player meant that Christopher Colley went off and on came Callum Burden who got mucked in and within no time at all the ball was fastly approaching the back of the net to make the score 1-0 to the Pumas.

A corner kick from Battyeford led to them scoring to even the score to 1-1, another attempt at the Battyeford goals from Callum Burden saw the ball flying past the goals and the referee (John Rankin) had to go sifting in the trees for the ball.

Halftime score Pumas 1-1 Battyeford.

Second half was very exciting as the Pumas up stepped there pace and and a very exciting half it was, some fantastic defending was seen but the Battyeford side managed to get another goal, but the Pumas held there heads up and tried very hard with numerous passing and tackles and attempts at goals, a very good pass to Callum Burden saw him having a try at the goals but the ball hit the post and bounced back to Christian Hamer who kicked the ball back towards the goal of which again hit the posts, very unlucky not to score, final score was Ossett Town 1-2 Battyeford.

Man of the match went to a well deserved Marshall Boden, and well done to you all a mixed up team that really did gel together.

Final score: Osset Town Panthers 2 v 0 Battyeford

Goalscorer: Harrison Joss (2)

Man of the match: Lewis Wardman

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman

After watching the Pumas play an eventful game it was time for the Panthers to hit the pitch, in the goals was Luke Hubbard and the two defenders was Callum Burden and Lewis Wardman, in midfield was Thomas Danson, Harrison Joss and Marshall Boden and up front was Edward Colley.

The panthers were very fresh and eager and started off very active with Harrison hitting the marker from a high kick to put the Panthers on the scoreline 1-0 Thomas Danson was showing everything he had got by some fantastic tackling and passing to Edward Colley, the boys up front really did work there socks off.

An eager tackle from Lewis Wardman saw him get injured by a blow to the knee and off he went to rest and on came Christopher Colley, the panthers played most of this half in the battyeford side and various attempts from Marshall Boden, Thomas Danson,Christopher Colley and Edward Colley but no goals were made and then out of the blue Harrison Joss sneaked the ball in to make the score 2-0.

Halftime score: Ossett Town Panthers 2-0 Battyeford.

Second half saw a slight change with the goalkeeper staying the same but the defence line was Christian Hamer and Seb Fealy, midfield was Thomas Danson, Scott Rankin and Lewis Wardman.

A lovely corner from Lewis Wardman saw a good attempt from Harrison Joss at the goals but the Battyeford goalkeeper saved the ball very well, Lewis Wardman did some fantastic tackles and passing and showed everyone what he was capable of doing, Thomas Danson and Scott Rankin were very busy helping Lewis Wardman to set goals up for Harrison Joss, a very pleasurable exciting game was seen and yet again a mixed team who really did work well together, full time whistle went and the final score was Ossett Town Panthers 2-0 Battyeford.

Man of the match went to Lewis Wardman who really worked hard and put 100% effort into the game well done Lewis and all of the Panthers.

Some excellent play from both teams today well done all of you.

Sunday 25th April 2010

Final Score: Rothwell Juniors C 1 v Ossett Town Pumas 1

Goalscorers: Callum Burden

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas travelled away for a very tricky game against an always strong Rothwell team and early on knew it would be tough and they all would have to be on top form.  Harry Hardy knew he was going to be busy today, but had a solid defence in front of him of Marshall Boden and Edward Colley who were kept busy early on.  The Pumas midfield steadied things with some lovely tackling from Max Wilson and Joe McDaid. Ben Fishman had the first chance for the Pumas with a lovely strike which was well saved.

Callum Burden made some great runs and held the ball up well.  Thomas Wright and Christopher Colley were introduced and both players showed great team spirit and determination.  The Pumas looked good as a team and there was some lovely passing between Max Wilson and Ben Fishman.  A lovely through ball from Ben Fishman saw Callum Burden attack the Rothwell defence and he got a lucky ricochet which saw the ball go in the net for the Pumas, 1-0 half time.

Second half and Joe McDaid was put into his trusted role as defender.  Backs against the wall second half and the Pumas did their best to keep the Rothwell attack at bay, but Rothwell did grab a goal, 1-1.  A frantic last few minutes saw both sides having chances, some super saves from Harry Hardy kept the Rothwell attack at bay and it was a tense for the fans.  The game finished 1-1 which I thought was a fair result, both teams showed some great team football today and a lot of hardwork and determination.  Well done Pumas.

Man of the Match went to Marshall Boden who was a giant in defence and was outstanding all game.

Final Score: Rothwell Juniors D 1 Ossett Town Panthers 1

Goalscorers: Ben Fishman

Man of the match: Christian Hamer

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Panthers kicked off after watching a very gutsy, determined Pumas effort and the crowd were hoping for another good game of football and the Panthers did not let us down.

Scott Rankin was in goal and again, knew he would be very busy.  His defence started out with Alex Jolly and Christian Hamer, midfield was Thomas Danson, Mark Scott and Elliott Smith, upfront was Ethan Morris.  Due to the lack of players, Max Wilson and Ben Fishman were subs for this game.  The Panthers started lively and had the first chance at goal which fell to Mark Scott who shot just wide.  Rothwell settled soon after the early scare and Christian Hamer and Alex Jolly had to be alert to everything.  Elliott Smith got some super tackles in and ran well with the ball.  Another lovely move saw the ball fall nicely to Mark Scott and he had a striking shot at goal from long range only to see the shot tipped over the bar by the keeper, that would have been a great goal Mark, hard luck.

Half time soon came after a very entertaining 0-0 half.

Second half and Max Wilson and Ben Fishman were brought on.  The next chance for the Panthers fell to Thomas Danson but again the ball wouldn't go in the back of the net.  The Panthers kept battling well and Christian Hamer and Scott Rankin were awesome today, Scott really did keep the Panthers in the game with some superb saves.

Rothwell kept attacking and did score a good goal and you then thought the Panthers heads would go down, but they didn't and they showed great team spirit.  A lovely ball from Max Wilson to Ben Fishman saw him take on the Rothwell defender, outpace him and only the keeper to beat who stood up tall but Ben Fishman cooly slotted the ball though the keepers legs and into the back of the net, 1-1 and game on.

It really was end to end football and once again a very nervy finish for both teams.  Ethan Morris sustained an injury late on and had to come off, but the Panthers kept going right until the end.  Final score 1-1 and once again, I think this was a fair result, two very good sides and another great game of football.

Man of the match went to Christian Hamer who gave 100% for his side today and never missed a tackle.  Also a special mention to Scott Rankin who was outstanding in goal.

Sunday 18th April 2010

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 0 - Glen Juniors
6

Man of the match: Max Wilson

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Another fine, warmish sunny morning saw a very tricky home tie for the Pumas today against a quality Glen side.  Harry Hardy was in goal, with his very reliable pairing defence of Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden who knew they would be busy today.  Early on you sensed that the Pumas would be up against it today, Glen oozed confidence throughout the team. The Pumas midfield was Oliver Dickinson, Max Wilson and  Matty Rogers with Oliver Spencer up front.  Ben Fishman and Joe Holliday started as subs.

Glen looked very comfortable on the ball and passed it around superbly, at one point it looked like they had more players than Ossett with their quick passing and running off the ball.  Glen had the first early chances and took them well leaving no chance for the Pumas defence and Harry Hardy and before they knew it they were 2-0 down.  A bad injury to Marshall Boden saw him go for a 50-50 ball with a Glen player but instead of kicking the ball the Glen player accidently kicked Marshall in the mouth who had to be subbed, which unsettled the Pumas even further.  Oliver Dickinson was busy this half and tackled well, Ben Fishman and Joe Holliday came into the action and Joe and Ben both tackled well, but Glen were too strong and added two further goals before half time.  Oliver Spencer came close for the Pumas when his fine effort hit the side netting, half time and 4-0 to Glen.

Second half and the Pumas heads were down, but Joe McDaid made two great runs from defence and saw his shots just go wide. Matty Rogers kept running and battling for the Pumas.  Max Wilson was like a little terrier today, trying so hard on the wing and tackling much bigger players than him to try and get the Pumas some advantage.  Ben Fishman, Oliver Dickinson and Joe Holliday worked tirelessly to stop the Glen attack and Ben Fishman got back on numerous occasions to help Harry Hardy out with the onslaught of attacking play that Glen had.

A better second half and battling team effort from every Pumas player kept the score line down.  Glen added two goals this half to make the final score 6-0.

Man of the Match went to Max Wilson who never stopped trying all game for his side and put in some superb tackles.  Also a special mention to Marshall Boden who sustained a bad injury but still wanted to take part in the game, well done Marshall and I hope your mouth is OK.

Final Score: Dewsbury Rangers 1 v Ossett Town Pumas 4

Goalscorers: Ben Fishman, Cameron Spurr (3)

Man of the match: Ryan Allen

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Owing to the back log of fixtures, this was second game of the day for five of the Pumas.  However, there were no signs of fatigue as they  stormed forward from the first whistle.  Joe Holliday had the first effort at goal, which was well saved.  This was quickly followed by a long range shot from Ryan Allen that had the keeper beat but hit the bar but dropped straight in to his arms.  Cameron Spurr had numerous efforts, which went wide or were saved and it felt like it was only a matter of time before the Pumas took the lead.  This proved to be the case when a fine run and cross from Max Wilson was slotted home by Ben Fishman to make it 1-0.  A second soon followed when a fine shot by Cameron Spurr hit the back of the net.  The Pumas were given a chance to make it three when they were awarded a penalty for handball.  Ben Fishman stepped up to take it, but it was well saved by the keeper.  Half time soon came with the Pumas a well deserved 2-0 in front.

The second half started with Elliot Smith on the left who made some fine long runs all game, but it was Dewsbury who got back in to the game early on to make it 2-1.  This could have unsettled the Pumas but virtually from the start a cross come shot from Ben Fishman was turned in to the net by Cameron Spurr to make it 3-1.  The defensive duo of Joe Holliday and Thomas Wright held firm, as did Ryan Allen who was solid throughout.  Mattthew Rogers slotted in to midfield in the second half and provided some telling through balls, one of which should have resulted in a second penalty when Ben Fishman was tripped.  The Pumas continued to press and Cameron Spurr completed is hat-trick from a pass from Max Wilson, who was outstanding second half.  4-1 to the Pumas and it really should have been at least seven or eight.  On the small number of occasions goalkeeper Harry Hardy was called in to action he dealt with things confidently and also provided some useful kicks out of his hands.

Final score 4-1, which really didn't reflect the balance of the game, it should have been a lot more, as numerous chances were either spurned or well saved.

All round a great team effort and a well deserved victory.  Man of the match was Ryan Allen who was everywhere today in defence and also brought the ball forward very confidently.  Well done Ryan!

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 5 - Bradford Park Avenue Juniors 1

Goalscorers: Max Wilson, Oliver Spencer (3) & Cameron Spurr

Man of the match: Harry Hardy

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

A lovely sunny morning saw the Pumas take on BPA.  The Pumas were up for this game after defeats away at BPA last weekend and the first early chance fell to Ben Fishman whose blasting shot hit the side netting after a lovely ball in from Matty Rogers.  BPA settled well and had a few good chances but the ever impressive Harry Hardy kept them out.  Max Wilson had a lot of ball and made some darting runs down the wing, Cameron Spurr was tackling well and Oliver Spencer also made some great runs.  The Pumas defence looked very settled with Ryan Allen at the heart of everything.  The Pumas subs of Alistair Haigh and Dan Feltcher were soon introduced and settled well into the team.

The Pumas were very strong today and another lovely attack from Max Wilson saw his shot this time beat the BPA keeper to put his side 1-0 up.  Oliver Spencer was next on the attack but unluckily for the Pumas, Oliver's shot hit the cross bar.  Another chance soon came and this time Oliver cooly slotted the ball home to give the Pumas a 2-0 lead, which was followed by another Max Wilson long range shot which was well saved.  BPA heads didn't go down and they attacked well.  Alistair Haigh was adjudged to have fouled in the box and a penalty awarded.  Harry Hardy as confident as ever was like a giant in goal and made a super save to keep the penalty out.  Straight from the kick out Oliver Spencer leapt onto the ball and finished well to make the score 3-0.

Second half and this half was all about the Pumas teamwork and flowing attacking play, a lovely move by Max Wilson down the wing to Ben Fishman who looked up and saw Matty Rogers in a good position and put an early ball in, only for Matty's shot to be well saved and a collision with the BPA keeper left Matty Rogers injured for a minute, but Matty managed to soldier on for his team

Further efforts from Max Wilson, Oliver Spencer and Matty Rogers came, but the Pumas fourth was a lovely solo run from Cameron Spurr who confidently shot passed the BPA keeper, 4-0 to the Pumas.  BPA kept going and did get on the score sheet, 4-1, but the day was all about the Pumas attack and Oliver Spencer rounded off a super day for the Pumas with a stunning third goal, 5-1 to the Pumas.

Well done to the whole team today.  Man of the Match went to Harry Hardy, who made some good saves today and made a super penalty save and also helped the Pumas to a goal or two with his super kicking out.  Also, a special mention to Oliver Spencer who got a well deserved hat-trick

Final score: Ossett Town Panthers 2 - 2  B.P.A Juniors

Goalscorers: Christopher Colley & Ethan Morris

Man of the match: Jamie White

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman

A lovely spring sunny morning saw the panthers kick off against bradford park juniors, the line up consisted of Jamie White in the goals then Harrison Joss and Edward Colley in defence and Seb Fealy, Luke Hubbard and Christopher Colley perfectly placed in midfield and Ethan Morris up front sat on the sub bench was Harry Graves and Lewis Wardman.

Some very active defending was put into action from Harrison Joss and Edward Colley as B.P.A started attacking the panthers side of the pitch but Jamie White was not going to be phased and was bright and alert and saved the ball, some quality passing down the wing saw an early winner from Christopher Colley to make the score 1-0 to the panthers, then Seb had a go but narrowly missed the target.

A change in the subs saw Harrison Joss and Seb Fealy go off and on came Harry Graves and Lewis Wardman, a lovely solo run from luke saw a near miss at the goals, then B.P.A had contact of the ball and hit the bar of the goals, Ethan Morris dribbled the ball round the BPA defence (just like the famous Rikky Villa) and scored to make the halftime score Ossett Town 2-0 B.P.A.

Second half saw a little change in the midfield line up with Luke Hubbard, Harry Graves and Seb Fealy, B.P.A stepped up there pace and pounded into action with a cracking but tricky goal that Jamie White just couldnt save to make to the score panthers 2-1 B.P.A,

The panthers continued their attacking play but B.P.A managed to squeeze through to score again to make the game evens 2-2, a fabulous save from Jamie White from a free kick at the edge of the box, full time score Ossett Town Panthers 2 - 2 Bradford Park Avenue Juniors.

Man of the match went to Jamie White who really stood out and played outstanding well done Jamie and all of the team.

Man of the match: Oliver Dickinson

The Pumas visited Churwell Lions and came away with an excellent victory in a hard fought game.   The Pumas led two nil at half-time when Matty Rogers knocked home from close range and then came provider to give Max Wilson a shot at goal which just crossed the line before the excellent Oli Spencer got to the ball.  The defence of Joe McDaid and Bradley Woollin was excellent throughout as was Joe Holliday, supporting the defensive line when needed.  The Pumas were completely in top in the second half and Matty Rogers scored an excellent individual goal when he calmly slotted it past the keeper to make it 3 v 0 and Oli Spencer got his rewards with the fourth and last goal of the game.  Harry Hardy was superb throughout and neutralised all of Churwell’s threats.  Debutant Oliver Dickinson had an excellent game in the centre of midfield and took the player of the match honours.

The Panthers went one nil down in this game but gave an excellent second half fight back

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 1 - Bradford Park Avenue Juniors 2

Goalscorers: Own Goal

Man of the match: Ryan Allen

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Pumas were on the road early today to Bradford Park Avenue and by kick off time some of the kids did look half asleep still.  In goal was Jamie White, his defence was Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen, midfielders were Ben Fishman, Dan Fletcher and Seb Fealy.  Ethan Morris was the lone striker and the sub was Alistar Haigh who stood in for some late pull outs to the team.

The Pumas started lively and were awarded a succession of corners which were superbly taken by Ben Fishman.  Dan Fletcher was unlucky not to score after having a super shot which was well saved and another a fine header, which again was well saved by the BPA keeper.  BPA settled into their play and caused problems for the Pumas defence but Jamie White stood up to everything they could throw at him with some fine saves.  BPA kept the pressure on and grabbed the first goal of the game, 1-0 to the home side.  The Pumas kept their heads up and battled well with some fine tackles from Ryan Allen and Dan Fletcher.  Ben Fishman was up and down the field constantly and the Pumas were awarded a free kick which Ben Fishman took and unlucky for the Pumas the stunning shot hit the post.  Half time soon approaching and the Pumas attackers kept going with some great determination from Seb Fealy in beating two players and putting a super ball to Dan Fletcher who crossed the ball into the danger area and it was put into his own goal by a BPA player.  But BPA bounced back and managed get a second goal to make it 2-1 at half time.

Second half and Alistar Haigh was introduced and made some good runs.  Jamie did well again this half with some fine saves that kept the score line down.  Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen worked well together at the back with Seb Fealy, Dan Fletcher and Ben Fishman challenging well for the ball trying to get it forward for Alistar Haigh.  This half the Pumas lacked any real threat upfront with the ball constantly been pinballed back to the BPA attackers.  Ryan Allen was outstanding all game and made some match saving tackles and Jamie White was the busier keeper and did great to keep a clean sheet second half.  Full time came with the score 2-1.  I thought a draw would have been a fair result today boys, you played some good football, although defending was the name of the game today, the two first half chances could easily have gone in.

Well done to Ryan Allen who was the Pumas Man of the Match, 100% today Ryan and some great work.

Final Score: Ossett Town Jaguars 0 - Bradford Park Avenue Juniors 3

Man of the match: Harry Graves

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Well another early start for the Jaguars and a very mixed side with more pull outs prior to kick off.

In goal was Ben Fishman, his defence was Lewis Wardman, Dan Fletcher and Alex Jolly, midfield consisted of Harry Graves, Seb Fealy and Jamie White, up front was Alistair Haigh.  The Jaguars looked good early on and Harry Graves made some superb runs to get his team into the attacking spirit.  The defence looked very settled with Dan Fletcher as the anchor, Seb Fealy was tackling well and Alistair Haigh made some darting runs.

The first few chances fell to the Jaguars with some superb long kicks out from Ben Fishman which bypassed the whole midfield and BPA players for Alistair Haigh to have a free run at the keeper on numerous occassions, but he just couldn't turn them into goals for the Jaguars.  Jamie White had the next run at goal and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.  The first half flew by with a very even fought game, 0-0 at half time.

Second half saw a few changes.  Dan Fletcher was subbed and Ryan Allen put in midfield.  It was Ryan Allen who had the next shot at goal, but it was well over.  This half and a lot of the players were tired and the defence wasn't as confident.  BPA attacked well and grabbed a quick succession of goals, 2-0 before the Jaguars reaslised what was going on.  BPA added a third goal just before full time, 3-0 to the home side.  The Jaguars kept going and Harry Graves and Seb Fealy really linked up well together, Alex Jolly battled well in midfield and the final chance of the game fell to Seb Fealy whose shot was well saved.

Full time 3-0 to BPA.  Man of the Match went to Harry Graves who was all over the field, never put a foot wrong and got in some great tackles.

Well done today to every player in both teams who made the effort to turn up, you played well and battled hard for your teams.

Sunday 28th March

Final score: Ossett town panthers 2-1 Dewsbury rangers 'D'

Goalscorers: Elliot Smith (2)

Man of the match: Harry Graves

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman

A very windy but sunny morning saw the Panthers kick off against Dewsbury rangers, with Jamie White in the goals and his line up was Harrison Joss and Thomas Wright in defence, Lewis Wardman, Elliot Smith and Harry Graves in midfield and up front was Alistair Haigh.

The Panthers set off attacking strongly from the start with very energetic vibes, but danger was soon to be had as Dewsbury rangers was in the panthers area, but the panthers soon got a grip of the ball and a long kick from Harrison Joss to Elliot Smith saw the ball nicely slip into the net to make the panthers 1-0 up.

A well deserved rest was needed for Harry Graves as Christian Hamer came on and soon got into action and some good tackles was seen from him, a long range kcik from one of the Dewsbury rangers players saw the ball right on target but Jamie White wasn't phased by this and saved the ball (well done Jamie).

Halftime score Ossett town panthers 1-0 Dewsbury rangers.

A slight change in the team layout for the second half saw three defenders which was Lewis Wardman, Thomas Wright and Harrison Joss and three midfielders which was Christian Hamer, Elliot Smith and Harry Graves.

A very sporting half from the panthers but Dewsbury kept attacking and tackling very well which led to them getting on the scoreboard to make it 1-1, another attempt at goal from Elliot Smith saw the rangers keeper save it.

A well deserved goal from Elliot Smith again, saw him taking his time and the ball nicely flowed in the back of the net to make the score 2-1 to the panthers.

Full time score Ossett town panthers 2-1 Dewsbury rangers

Man of the match went too Harry Graves who played exceptionally well today.

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 2 - Hunslet Juniors 2

Goalscorers: Oliver Spencer (2)

Man of the match: Harry Hardy

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

On a fine, dry and sunny morning the Pumas were in action against Hunslet Juniors.  The Pumas started slowly again and Hunslet had the first few chances of the game and Harry Hardy was called upon on numerous occasions and pulled off some great saves early on.  The defensive due of Joe McDaid and Ryan Allen sprung into action then and steadied the ship for the Pumas.  Town's first chance of the game fell to striker Oli Spencer who was strong, but saw his shot well saved.  The game really was end to end, but Harry Hardy was called into action more than the Hunslet keeper this half.  Dan Fletcher and Max Wilson worked tirelessly trying to get the ball forward with Matty Rogers digging in and tackling well.

Half time soon came with the score line 0-0.

Second half and much the same as the first early on with Hunslet having the early pressure in attack which saw them take the lead from a corner.  Joe Holliday was called into action and tackled well and got some good balls out wide to Max Wilson who never stopped running and trying for his side.  Finally the Pumas got on the score sheet with a lovely flowing move which involved a superb ball in from Max Wilson to Matty Rogers who passed the ball onto Oli Spencer, who slotted the ball home  to make it 1-1.  Harry Hardy was again the busier of the two keepers  and pulled off a string of outstanding saves to keep his side in with a shout.  Another fine attacking move from Max Wilson saw him put another super ball into the box for Oli Spencer to control well and finish with ease, 2-1 to the Pumas.  Hunslet came back though levelled just before the end to make it 2 -2, which is how the game ended and a fair result.

Man of the Match went to Harry Hardy who was outstanding all game and if it hadn't of been for some of his world class saves the Pumas would have been facing a heavy defeat.  Well done Harry.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 8 - Hunslet Juniors 1

Goalscorers: Cameron Spurr (3), Callum Burden (3), Ben Fishman (2)

Man of the match: Cameron Spurr

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

A strong Panthers outfit took to the pitch today against a Hunslet team one player down.  In goal was William Hall who to be fair had a quite game, but when called into action he stood up to the test well.  The Panthers were firing on all cylinders from the start and the first early chance fell to Ben Fishman, whose shot was well saved, with Edward Colley first to react but his shot was well saved again.  The Panthers defenders were quiet this half but this allowed Cameron Spurr and Bradley Wollin to attack from the back at every opportunity.  Some great running on the left from Ben Fishman saw a succession of corners awarded, which were excellently taken by him.  The Panthers first goal came from a corner by Ben Fishman which fell nicely to Cameron Spurr who slotted home for his first goal of the day, 1-0 to the home side.  The Panthers kept the pressure on the Hunslet defence with some great moves from Edward Colley and Callum Burden and the second goal of the game came from Callum Burden with a lovely powerful shot, 2-0 to the Panthers, which was the score at half time.

Second half and the Panthers continued their flowing football, a strong solo run from Ben Fishman saw him beat two Hunselts defenders and unleash a powerful shot, only to see the keeper tip it around the post.  Finally Ben Fishman got on the score sheet with a fine low shot finish, 3-0 to the Panthers.  Bradley Woolin was outstanding in defence today and put some superb balls forward.  Mark Scott was quiet but ran well and got back for his team.  Callum Burden grabbed his second of the game with another powerful shot which gave the Hunslet keeper no chance, 4-0 to the Panthers.  The Hunslet team kept their heads up and kept going and scored after a bit of sloppiness in the Panthers box to make it 4-1.

Cameron Spurr got the fifth goal of the game after a super ball in from Callum Burden, 5-1 to Ossett and not long after he got his hat-trick with another fine finish, 6-1 to the Panthers. A seventh goal was added by Ben Fishman after a terrific cross come shot from Callum Burden was turned in the net off the post by Ben.  The final goal of the game fell to Callum Burden with another super shot and a hat-trick for him.

Man of the Match went to Cameron Spurr, who was solid at the back, but also got forward for his team and got a well deserved hat-trick and also a special mention to Callum Burden who also celebrated with a fine hat-trick and well done to the whole team for some great attacking play.

Sunday 14th March

Dewsbury Rangers 3 v 1 Ossett Town Jaguars (Hudds League Div O)

Goal Scorer: Christian Hamer

Man of the match; Harrison Joss

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman.

A nice fresh morning saw the Jaguars kick off away to Dewsbury rangers, in goals was Jamie White and his defence line was Lewis Wardman and Harrison Joss, whislt in midfield was Ethan Morris, Seb Fealy and Christian Hamer and the lone ranger up front was Alistair Haigh on the subs bench was Alex Jolly,

The Jaguars set off to attack from the start and a good cross from Harrison Joss to Alistair Haigh led to a near miss at the goals, but Dewsbury Rangers kept attacking and they had it in there hearts that they were going to be the dominent side today, a long range goal from rangers saw them go into the lead 1-0,

A nice little solo run from one of the Dewsbury side down the left wing saw a good attempt at goals but Jamie White was not going to be defeated and he saved the ball, it was the Jaguars turn to have another attempt and a lovely run from Seb Fealy saw the ball heading for the goals but was saved by there keeper, but then the Rangers headed down the Jaguars patch and netted the ball to make them a 2-0 lead.

Second half saw quite an entertaining game both teams put all there effort in but the Rangers proved to be strong by sneaking the ball past Jamie White to make them 3-0 up, then a long pass from Harrison Joss to Alex Jolly saw Alex doing the riverdance and a hop skip and jump over the ball of which Christian Hamer managed to rescue and in the back of the net the ball went to make the final score 3-1.

Man of the match went to Harrison Joss who really did put 100% effort into the game.

I hope Harry Graves managed to get some sleep and is fully recovered for next weeks game.

Scorers: Matty Rogers (2), Oliver Spencer

Player of the Match: Matty Rogers

Team: Harry Hardy, Marshall Boden, Ryan Allen, Callum Burden, Dan Fletcher, Matty Rogers, Oliver Spencer and Max Wilson

A good game of football which was end-to-end.   Ossett got into a 3 v 1 lead courtesy of an excellent brace from Matty Rogers with Oliver Spencer scoring a great goal in between Matty's brace.   Rothwell though are a strong team and battled back, despite excellent defending from Ryan Allen, Marshall Boden and Dan Fletcher, and got the game back to 3 v 3.  Rothwell though took the spoils with a controversial goal in the last five minutes.  Hardy had another solid game in between the posts and Callum Burden and Max Wilson ran their socks off.

Rothwell Town B 0 v 1 Ossett Town Panthers

Scorer: Chris Colley

Player of the Match: Bradley Woolin

Team: Scott Rankin, Bradley Woollin, Edward Colley, Elliot Smith, Chris Colley, Mark Scott, Will Hall

Another great game of football which saw great attacking play from Ossett, supported by an outstanding defensive display by Edward Colley and man of the match Bradley Woollin.   Chris Colley was a constant threat to Rothwell and got the solitary, but well deserved goal.  This was an outstanding performance with Rankin solid in goal and Scott, Hall and Smith creative in the attack.

Scorer: Oliver Spencer

Player of the Match: Max Wilson

Team: Harry Hardy, Marshall Boden, Dan Fletcher, Ben Fishman, Max Wilson, Matty Rogers, Oliver Spencer, Joe Holliday

This was a great game of football and was a lot closer than the result would suggest.  Oliver Spencer was a constant threat all of the game, supported by good supply work by Matty Rogers and Marshall Boden.  Dan Fletcher covered admirably in defence, as did Joe Holliday when called upon.  Harry Hardy was a revelation in goal, commanding his box with some fantastic shouting and Ben Fishman worked hard on the left wing.  Max Wilson though was the star today, constantly running at the Dewsbury defence and causing them all sorts of problems.

Saturday 6 March 2010

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 4 - Gildersome 1

Goalscorers: Oliver Spencer (3), Cameron Spurr

Man of the match: Oliver Spencer

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

On a wet and miserable morning the Pumas returned to action against a decent Gilderson side.  From the first whistle the Pumas were on the attack with the ball quickly finding its way forward to Oliver Spencer up front.  It wasn't long before the Pumas forced the first corner of the game and a fine delivery from Cameron Spurr fell at the feet of Oliver Spencer who dug the ball out to fire in to the top right hand corner of the net to put the Pumas 1-0 up.  Gildersome were lively and the reliable defensive duo of Marshall Boden and Joe McDaid were called in to action to make some timely tackles and blocks.  From a Gildersome corner the Pumas broke and a fine pass from Max Wilson put Cameron Spurr clear who ran some 25 yards before cooly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0 to the Pumas.  Dan Flecther was busy tackling all over the field and Harry Hardy wasn't really called upon until he had to pick the ball out of the back of the net five minutes before half time following a fine close range shot by Gildersome.  Ben Fishman and Joe Holliday were then introduced and both got stuck in from the off, but there was no further change to the score as the half time whistle went with the Pumas 2 -1 up.

The second half began with both sides on the attack.  Max Wilson was very prominent on the right firing in some lovely crosses.  It was from a through ball from Joe McDaid that Oliver Spencer got his second of the game, with a fine and very rare left foot finish from 10 yards out.  Gildersome then pressed to get back in the game, but some fine defending from all the team kept them at bay and meant Harry Hardy in goal wasn't troubled that often.  There were balls pinging around the midfield between Max Wilson, Dan Fletcher, Ben Fishman and Joe Holliday, but it wasn't until late on that a quick throw in from Ben Fishman caused a mix up in the Gildersome defence, with the ball falling on the toe of Oliver Spencer who slotted home from close range to complete a well deserved hat-trick.

Unlike last week all the players were wide awake from the off and got stuck in.  I think a three goal winning margin was a true reflection of the game, as both teams could have had more.  Man of the match went to Oliver Spencer who had his best game for a while for the Pumas.  Well done Oliver, don't forget to get a fiver a goal off your dad!!

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 1 - 1 Gildersome

Goalscorers:  Thomas Danson

Man of the match: Thomas Wright

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Panthers took to the field hoping to make it a double following the Pumas earlier victory.  Gildersome were a strong side and the Panthers were under the cosh for the first five to ten minutes, with Thomas Wright forced in to making a number of last ditch tackles, along with his defensive partner Christian Hamer.  When they were beaten the reliable Scott Rankin stood firm in goal.  Luke Hubbard, who had his best game for a while, was all over the pitch, making a number of fine runs forward and was well supported by Thomas Danson, Mark Scott and William Hall on the left and Alex Jolly on the opposite side.  As the first half wore on the Panthers were coming under increasing pressure and failure to clear the ball properly saw Gildersome go 1 - 0 up and you thought the floodgates might open.  But credit to all the lads they dug deep and a fine solo run from Luke Hubbard saw him up ended in the box and a penalty given.  Thomas Danson stepped up to smash the ball in to the goalkeeper's top right hand corner to make it 1 - 1, which was the score as the half time whistle blew.

Second half and the game was much more even, with both teams having numerous chances to win the game.  The introduction of Matthew Rogers saw the Panthers become more prominent in attack with a number of clear scoring opportunities created.  Unfortunately the final ball or a lack of composure meant the chances went astray.  At the other end Thomas Wright stood firm, as always, and William Hall who was now in goal made a number of fine saves to keep his side level.  With him now in goal Scott Rankin moved in to midfield and battled well, making a number of fine tackles.  As the game was drawing to a close the Panthers broke again and Matthew Rogers shot beat the goalkeeper and looked as though it was on its way in to the net, only for a Gildersome defender to stumble and block the ball on the line with his chest, which gave his team sufficient time to get back and clear.  Final score 1 - 1.

The lads were under pressure today, particularly in the first half, but dug deep to stay in the game and second half with a bit more composure could well have won.  Man of the match was Thomas Wright who was excellent again.

Sunday 28 February 2010

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 1 - Lepton Highlanders 3

Goalscorers : Oliver Spencer

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

This fixture was switched to an away day for the Pumas, due to WMDC calling off all games in Wakefield, but thankfully the Pumas could get back in action after Lepton confirmed their pitch was playable, so after a few weeks off - game on again.

The Pumas lined up with Harry Hardy in goal, Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden in defence, midfield was interchanged between Matty Rogers, Dan Fletcher, Max Wilson and Ben Fishman, with Oliver Spencer running the attack for the Pumas.  The Pumas once again started slow and looked half asleep and Lepton took advantage of this with two early goals that Harry Hardy could do nothing about.  After some pointers from the coach the Pumas players started to play some football, the first attack of the game was a lovely flowing move involving Max Wilson, Matty Rogers and Oliver Spencer, whose shot was saved well, Max Wilson followed up but his shot just went wide.

The Pumas were spurred on with this attack and Marshall Boden was a giant in defence but fancied a run, so from defence he attacked the Lepton defence and unleashed a fine shot, only for it to hit the post and Lepton scrambled it away.  The Pumas looked good now and Ben Fishman was next to have a shot well saved, the Lepton keeper was very busy!  Ben Fishman put a super ball through to Oliver Spencer, but again the Lepton keeper wouldn't be beaten and saved well again.  At this point you wondered if the Pumas would ever get on the score sheet.

Oliver Spencer made a super run and saw his shot hit the post, agonising for the Pumas players, hard luck Oliver.  Finally the Pumas got on the score sheet with a cool finish from Oliver Spencer, 2-1 to Lepton.  The game then was end to end with both teams having chances, both defences played superbly, Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden play so well together at the back and Harry Hardy made some fine saves, but it wasn't to be the Pumas day and right on the whistle Lepton got a third goal to make the final score 3-1 to Lepton

Man of the Match went to Marshall Boden who was outstanding today and gave 100% for his team.

Hard luck today boys, two early goals and we were up against it, but you battled well and nearly got back level.  A bit more concentration from the kick off and it might have been a different result.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 7 - Lepton Highlanders 0

Goalscorers : Edward Colley (2), Christopher Colley (2), Callum Burden (2) & Scott Rankin

Man of the match: Edward Colley & Christopher Colley

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

So the Panthers took to a churned up field ready for action.  In goal  first half was Scott Rankin, his defence was Ryan Allen and Thomas Wright, midfield consisted of Callum Burden, Christopher Colley and William Hall, the striker was Edward Colley.  Jamie White started as a sub but slotted nicely into defence when called into action.

The Panthers started lively and Christopher Colley had the first chance of the game which hit the post. The Panthers first goal came and it was a family affair with a great strong run from Christopher Colley who saw his shot hit the post, but the first to react was his twin brother Edward Colley who slottted the ball home, 1-0 to the Panthers and a great family move!  Not to be out done Christopher Colley soon got on the score sheet with a fine finish, 2-0.  The Panthers looked lethal every attack and to be honest Scott Rankin in goal and his defence had very little to do on this cold morning.  It was all about the attacking play and Edward Colley soon got the Panther's third goal.  Once again not to be out done by his brother Christopher Colley then added his second goal of the game, 4-0 to the Panthers and it really was the Colley show this half.

Second half and Jamie White put the goalie's shirt on and Scott Rankin came for a run out to get warm and a bit dirtier!!  The Panthers carried on this half where they left off with some great attacking moves.  A lovely run from Edward Colley saw him put a super ball into the box and Scott Rankin was on the end of it to slot the ball home, 5-0 to a very impressive Panthers outfit.  Callum Burden had been quiet all game so far, but sprung into action with a strong run and fine shot to put his side 6-0 up.  Anything the Colley's can do, so can Callum Burden, another strong run and fine finish saw Callum Burden get his second goal of the day, 7-0 to the Panthers.

A great result for the Panthers today and some lovely attacking football, well done to Edward, Christopher and Callum for all getting two goals each.  The crowd were urging an hat-trick from one of you or all three, but you all shared the spoils.

Men of the Match went to the dynamic duo of Christopher & Edward Colley for an excellent family show!

League Cup - Round 3

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 2 - Cumberworth 1

Goalscorers : Ben Fishman and Oliver Spencer

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas travelled away today for a very tricky cup tie and both teams put on a cracking performance.

The line up today was Harry Hardy in goal, his defencsive duo were the reliable Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden, midfield was mixed up of Joe Holliday, Dan Fletcher, Matty Rogers, Max Wilson and Ben Fishman, with the lone front man Oliver Spencer.

The Pumas were really up for this game and in the first ten minutes Cumberworth found themselves up against it, with the Pumas were throwing everything at them and Oliver Spencer had the first few chances of the game.  Against the run of play Cumberworth had a good attack and managed to beat Harry Hardy to go 1-0 up.  Stunned and shocked at all the early pressure the Pumas had and to find hemselves 1-0 down seemed to make the players more determined, with further chances falling to Matty Rogers and Oliver Spencer, but the shots were either just wide or well saved. Thankfully the Pumas players kept their cool and didn't panic and they got their just rewards with a super goal.  A lovely long kick out from goal by Harry Hardy saw the ball fall perfectly to Oliver Spencer who attacked the Cumberworth defence and unleashed a powerful shot only for the goalkeeper to save it, but thankfully for the Pumas Ben Fishman was the first to react to the keeper's spill and he slotted the ball home to make the score 1-1.  With half time approaching the Pumas attacking was relentless.  Oliver Spencer hit the post, Max Wilson went close and Joe Holliday had a super shot which was well saved.

Second half and the Pumas played some superb passing football and looked very confident as a team.  Marshall Boden and Joe McDaid were awesome together at the back, Dan Fletcher and Ben Fishman ran their socks off to get back in defence and help out whenever necessary, Max Wilson put some super balls through to Oliver Spencer and with time ticking and the breakthrough not coming you wondered if we would face extra time.  Finally the winner came and I am pleased to say that it fell to Oliver Spencer, who had his chances today but kept his head up and kept going and deservedly got the winning goal for his team after a lovely through ball from Ben Fishman.  The remaning few minutes of the game were nervy for the Pumas as Cumberworth are a good side and attacked fast, but the lads manged to hang on for a hard fought victory on a very heavy pitch.

Man of the Match went to Marshall Boden who never put a foot wrong all game and made some timely tackles.  Well done to the whole team, a very gutsy determined performance today boys.

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 3 - Norristhorpe 2

Goalscorers : Oliver Spencer (2), Bradley Woolin

Man of the match: Thomas Wright

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas were back on home soil today and up against a very good Norristhorpe outfit.  The line up today was Pumas No. 1 keeper Harry Hardy, his defence was a mixture of Thomas Wright, Ryan Allen and Cameron Spurr.  Midfield was Matty Rogers, Max Wilson, Bradley Woollin and Ben Fishman, with Oliver Spencer up front.

The Pumas still looked half asleep shortly after the kick off and found themselves 2-0 down early on with some confident Norristhorpe attacking play.  Stunned into action the Pumas began to get it together and started passing the ball around, some great runs by Max Wilson and superb tackling from Ryan Allen spurred the team on.  Matty Rogers went clean through on another good Pumas move but the Norristhorpe keeper stood up to the shot and saved it well.  Thankfully the Pumas did soon get on the score sheet with a confident run from Oliver Spencer and fine finish to lift the lads heads, 2-1 and game on.  The Pumas kept attacking and just before half time drew level with a lovely run from Max Wilson, who put a super pass into Matty Rogers who looked up and put a lovely pass in for Oliver Spencer to slot the ball home and make the half time score 2-2.

Second half and both teams battled, tackled and gave 100%.  Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen were confident at the back together, Cameron Spurr made some goal saving tackles and Harry Hardy stood up to everything the Norristhorpe attack threw at him this half.  Bradley Woolin was put up front and caused real problems for the away side.  Max Wilson and Ben Fishman worked tirelessly on both wings with some super corners put in the danger area from Ben Fishman.

There were few chances second half and you got the feeling that the next goal would be the winner.  Ben Fishman had a stunning left foot shot from outside the box that just went wide and then Max Wilson also had a super strike, which again just went wide, it was nervous times for the Pumas crowd.  Finally the breakthrough came for the Pumas, Cameron Spurr made a strong run into the box and his shot was well saved, Max Wilson followed up with a shot which got defelected but thankfully it fell to the red shirt of Bradley Woollin who from a very tight angle slotted the ball home for the winner.

Man of the match went to Thomas Wright who was stunning all game and led from the back.

Well done to the Pumas, I think the win was deserved, a slow start but you all battled well and gave 100% right to the end.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 3 - Norristhorpe 1

Goalscorers : Christopher Colley, Dan Fletcher and William Hall

Man of the match: Harrison Joss

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Panthers watched the Pumas gain a stunning victory and we all hoped they could make it two out of two and this they did in super fashion.

In goal was Jamie White, his defence was Edward Colley and Harrison Joss, midfield saw Christopher Colley, William Hall and Dan Fletcher, strikers were Alistair Haigh first half and Alex Jolly second half.

The Panthers seemed to want to carry on where the Pumas had left off and looked very confident.  Christopher Colley and Dan Fletcher were running the show for the Panthers and Harrison Joss was strong in defence.  Alistair Haigh made some good runs up front and Willam Hall tackled really well and got the ball forward as much as he could.  The first goal for the Panthers went to Christopher Colley who cooly slotted the ball past the Norristhorpe keeper following a fine run.  Norristhorpe did come into the game a bit then and looked quite dangerous.  Jamie White made some good saves and was very confident in his area, but the Panthers defence couldn't keep Norristhorpe out and they scored just on half time.

Second half and the Panthers came out on the attack.  William Hall was busy on the left and Dan Fletcher was all over the field, some great determintation from the Colley brothers saw them both battle to win the ball back and Dan Fletcher capitialised on this to put his side 2-1 up.  The Panthers third goal came from another fine run from Christopher Colley who passed onto striker Alex Jolly who flicked the ball into the path of William Hall who burst into the box and cooly slotted the ball home with his left foot, a lovely goal.  Final score 3-1 to the Panthers.

Man of the Match went to Harrison Joss who was solid all game for his team, he covered and tackled well throughout.

Well done to the Panthers today, some lovely strong runs from midfield and great team defending at times.

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 2 - Rothwell Juniors 3

Scorers: Oliver Spencer (2)

Man of the match: Dan Fletcher

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas were in action at the impressive home of Rothwell Juniors and playing on astro turf today.   The line up was the off colour Harry Hardy in goal, his defence was Dan Fletcher and Cameron Spurr, midfield was Joe Holliday, Callum Burden and Thomas Danson.  Oliver Spencer was the striker.  Joe McDaid was ill on the day and didn't take part, hope you are better soon Joe.

Rothwell are a very good confident side and had good early possesion with the first chance of the game falling to them, which they took to put them 1-0 up.  The Pumas kept their formation and a lovely solo run from Oliver Spencer saw his shot saved well by the Rothwell keeper.  Dan Fletcher and Cameron Spurr linked up well at the back and Joe Holliday made some darting runs from midfield into danger areas for the Pumas.  Another fine team move saw the ball fall to Oliver Spencer whose fine effort was kicked off the line by the Rothwell defender only to see the follow up shot also kicked off the line, at this point you wondered if we were going to get on the score sheet.

Rothwell put the pressure on though and Harry Hardy was called into action which he did superbly making two world class saves back to back.  Rothwell kept attacking and soon got a second goal which Harry Hardy could do nothing about.  The Pumas kept battling and played some good football with Callum Burden and Thomas Danson giving everything for their side.  Cameron Spurr was quality today and really got stuck in.  Finally the Pumas got on the score sheet with a lovely darting run from Oliver Spencer into the box and a cool finish 2-1 and game on.

Both sides played some good football and it was pleasing to watch.  Rothwell sealed the win with another fine goal.  But the Pumas wouldn't lie down and Oliver Spencer got his second goal of the day with another fine solo effort.  Final score 3-2 to Rothwell.

Man of the Match went to Dan Fletcher, who was solid all game and not much got passed him.  Well done Dan and the rest of the team for battling and coming close to a well deserved draw I thought.

The Panthers were kicking off today's game on astro turf and had Scott Rankin in goal, in front of him in defence were Thomas Wright and Marshall Boden and in midfield Ben Fishman, Max Wilson and Mark Scott.  Up front was Alex Jolly, Ryan Allen was a sub to start with.

To be honest this was a game of two halves, the first half not very good at all for the Panthers as straight from the kick off a mix up saw the Rothwell players capitalise and score an early goal, which soon followed an onslaught of Rothwell attacking play that the Panthers had no answer to.  Ryan Allen was brought into play and steadied things in midfield with some strong tackles, guts and determination.  Just before half time Ben Fishman suffered a bad injury getting smacked by the ball in the face and had to come off quite stunned and with a cut mouth.

Second half and whatever coach Steve Fealy said worked.  The Panthers were a different side and played some great football.  Ben Fishman soldiered on for his side and came back on in defence and this really steadied the ship, with Rothwell only scoring once this half.  There was some confident play from Mark Scott and Max Wilson was always a threat when he got the ball.  Defence was solid this half with Marshall Boden, Ben Fishman and Thomas Wright talking to each other well and some superb balls forward from Ben Fishman gave Mark Scott plenty of action to attack the Rothwell defence this half.  Ryan Allen battled superbly in midfield and Alex Jolly made some good runs.

A lot quieter half for Scott Rankin in goal, but he was called upon on numerous occasions and stood up to the test well.  The Panthers passed well second half and just a bit more confidence in front of goal and I think we could have got on the score sheet.  Full time came with the score 6-0 to Rothwell.

Man of the Match went to the whole team, a great second half team effort, well done boys.

Final Score: Ossett Town Jaguars 2 - Brighouse B 3

Goalscorer: Ethan Morris (2)

Man of the match: Ethan Morris

Match reporter: James Rogers

Ossett Town Jaguars took the lead twice in this game but on both occassions Brighouse fought back and ultimately got the winner to take the spoils 3 v 2.   Ethan Morris was the scorer of both goals.  The first coming after good work from Bradley Wollin and Matthew Rogers and when the ball fell to Ethan's feet he made sure.  His second goal was just like Ricky Villa's famous goal for Spurs - stick to his feet as he beat five defenders! Overall, Town had their chances to win this game fair and square.  In the first 20 minutes Town had numerous chances but the shots were just trickling wide or they met a goalkeeper on top form.   Brighouse's goals came on the break, or on one occassion through defensive error, and despite some excellent defending by Seb Fealy and Jacob Merricks, and some brave keeping from Jamie White, Town couldn't quite stop Brighouse scoring when they had their chances.  Will Hall had some good runs down the left wing and Town created lots of chances throughout the game but today were unable to convert the pressure to goals.  Unlucky guys, a gritty performance, and two good goals by the striker of the moment, Mr Ethan Morris.

Reds keeper made a good goal kick getting it forward to Kieran which created another goal for the reds 1-2.

From the spot blues got the ball forward giving Luke a good chance on goal but the keeper just getting his fingers to it pushing it wide. Goal kick went forward into blues half and reds attacking with Ewan Broadbent Ewan Broadbent scoring there third just before the final whistle.

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 2 - Hartshead 6

Scorers: Oliver Spencer, Joe Holliday

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas were back in action after a lengthy lay off due to the weather with a tricky away game at Hartshead.

Line up was Harry Hardy in goal, Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden in defence, Matty Rogers, Max Wilson, Joe Holliday and Ben Fishman in midfield with Oliver Spencer up front.  The Pumas started lively with a lovely pass from Marshall Boden through to Oliver Spencer whose shot at goal went just wide.  Hartshead then got on the attack and Harry Hardy was called into action on a number of occasions and stood up to the test very well.  Another good Pumas move saw Ben Fishman put a superb ball through for Oliver Spencer, who this time composed himself well and slotted the ball home to put the Pumas 1-0 up.  At this stage it looked like an away win was on the cards, but Hartshead had other ideas and soon scored to level the game 1-1 and added a second not long after 2-1 to Hartshead.

The Pumas knuckled down and Max Wilson had some good runs on the wing, Joe Holliday was busy all over the field and Ben Fishman got back to help out in defence on a number of occasions.  The Pumas second goal came from a fine shot from Oliver Spencer which was well saved but thankfully for the Pumas Joe Holliday was the first to react to put the ball in the back of the net, 2-2 and it was end to end football at this point.  Not really sure what happened to the Pumas after that as second half the team was really below par.  Hartshead took advanatge of this and the Pumas soon found themselves behind 3-2, then 4-2.  There were some highlights for the Pumas a good free kick from Ben Fishman just couldn't beat the last defender and another fine shot from Ben Fishman was unlucky not to go in.  Oliver Spencer had a few efforts but it was Hartshead who had their heads up and they added a further two goals for make the final score 6-2.

A big disappointment for the Pumas, after not playing for such a long time we could have done with a bit more team spirit, better passing and all round better football, which we all know you are all capable of.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 3 - Hartshead 0

Scorers: Callum Burden, Dan Fletcher, Cameron Spurr

Man of the match: Scott Rankin

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

After a long break the Panthers took to the field with Scott Rankin in goal, his defence was Thomas Wright and Cameron Spurr, midfield was Dan Fletcher, Bradley Woollin, William Hall and Ryan Allen.  Callum Burden was up front.  The Panthers looked lively and up for this game and the first attack for the Panthers was a sweet one with a lovely pass from Dan Fletcher to Callum Burden who hit a thunderous shot to put them  1-0 up.  Hartshead picked themselves up and had a lot of attacking play which resulted in Scott Rankin getting his new clean goalie gloves - very dirty indeed!  He made some great saves to keep the Panthers in front.

The first half flew by with some good football from both sides.  William Hall and Ryan Allen were tackling well and linking up superbly.  Dan Fletcher was busy all the time, Thomas Wright and Cameron Spurr were very confident in defence.  Half time soon approaching when the Panthers got their second goal a lovely run and cross from Willam Hall into the box to Dan Fletcher, saw him cooly slot the ball home to make it 2-0 to the Panthers at half time.

Second half and the Panthers continued their attacking play with fine efforts from Callum Burden, Dan Fletcher and Cameron Spurr.  One of Callum Burden's powerful shots was tipped onto the cross bar by the Hartshead keeper, hard luck Callum it would have been a peach of a goal as you were so far out, but great save Hartshead keeper.

A lovely solo run from Cameron Spurr saw him attack the Hartshead defence and finish well to put his side 3-0 up.  Full time and a good away win for the Panthers and I must say, some really good football was played today.  Man of the Match went to Scott Rankin who first half kept his side in the game.  Well done Scott and all the Panthers players.

Ossett Town Tigers 2 - 5 Ossett Town U8's

Scorers: Ethan Morris (2)

Player of the Match: Ethan Morris

Match Reporter: A N Other

Playing for the Tigers today was Ethan Morris, Jacob Merricks, Jamie White, Harrison Joss, Lewis Wardman, Thomas Danson, Alistair Haigh and Harry Graves. It was a good performance by all and man of the match went to Ethan Morris.

Sorry there isn't a detailed match report - no one volunteered.  I was on my own managing both the Jaguars and the Tigers, so thanks to Neil Hubbard for taking on the role of match reporter for the Tigers game, and Elizabeth Merricks for doing the raffle. I was a little bit disappointed by the lack of assistance in erecting and dismantling the goals, I too am a parent and attend football for the pleasure that it gives my son and your children also. Please don't wait to be asked to help, every home game requires match reporters, tuck shop helpers, nets sorting and rope putting out, we expect our children to be part of a team so a little bit of teamwork from parents wouldn't harm.

Garforth League - Game 1

Final Score: Osset Town Pumas 2 - Woodkirk 0

Scorers: Oli Spencer (2)

Man of the match: Max Wilson

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas kicked off on a reasonable morning, but quite cold.  The Pumas lined up with Harry Hardy in goal, his defence was the outstanding duo of Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden, midfield was Max Wilson, Joe Holliday and Ben Fishman.  Oliver Spencer was the lone striker.  The Pumas started lively and were awarded a corner early on, which Ben Fishman put a super delivery into the box for Joe Holliday to shoot at goal, but his shot was well saved with the rebound falling to Oli Spencer who again shot, but this also was well saved, Max Wilson followed up and put a screaming shot just over the bar - great start boys.

Woodkirk settled into their play then and played some super one touch football and Harry Hardy was called into action on numerous occasions and stood up to the challenge well with some really fine saves to keep the score at 0-0.  Harry's defence was excellent today with the pairing of Marshall Boden and Joe McDaid back in action together, they covered each other so well and read the game superbly.  Max Wilson was busy down the wing and made some great attacking runs at the Woodkirk defence.  Oli Spencer had a few chances this half but the half time whistle came with a very impressive 0-0 score line, which was credit to both teams for some gutsy defending.

Second half and you wondered where the goal would come from, a super run from Oli Spencer into the box saw him shoot from a very difficult angle with the ball nearly going dead for a goal kick, but Oli managed to get enough power and precision behind the ball to put his side 1-0 up. A great goal and just what the team needed.  Joe Holliday was outstanding today, he seemed to be all over the field and was involved in nearly every tackle, he also took a couple of knocks but managed to carry on.  Town played some good football with some great runs from Max Wilson and Ben Fishman and some darting runs from Oli Spencer were pleasing to the eye.  The Pumas defence stood firm all this half and I must say that all the team when they were under pressure got back and helped out in defence.  Town's second goal came from their in-form striker Oli Spencer, who burst clear from half way with another excellent run into the box and a fine finish to make it 2-0 to the Pumas.

Man of the match went to Max Wilson who made some great attacking runs but also got back and helped out in defence and tackled well in midfield.

A good Pumas team performance today with every player contributing 100% for the win and well done boys for keeping a clean sheet, great goal keeping and defending today.

Garforth League - Game 2

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 6 - Woodkirk 2

Scorers: Matty Rogers (2) Dan Fletcher (3), Mark Scott

Man of the match: Christian Hamer

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Panthers took to the field after watching a Pumas victory eager to carry on the winning form today and this they did in spectacular fashion.

In goal was the ever improving Scott Rankin, his defence was Christian Hamer and Ryan Allen, midfield was Dan Fletcher, Mark Scott and Thomas Danson, up front was Matty Rogers.

The Panthers started confidently with some lovely movement up front from Matty Rogers who soon put Town 1-0 up with a fine finish.  Scott Rankin was confident in goal and his defence snuffed out some good attacks from Woodkirk, but one attack proved too strong for the Panthers defence and they equalised, 1-1 and game on.  The Panthers composed themselves and they played some lovely football, a fine move which started with Dan Fletcher, who put a super ball into Mark Scott who burst into the box and moved the ball on Matty Rogers toes who shot first time only to see his effort well saved, hard luck boys there, it was a lovely move and deserved a goal.  Half time came with the score line 1-1 and again this was credit to both teams for some super defending.  Thomas Danson, Christian Hamer and Ryan Allen played really well together and got some great tackles in.

Second half and a great attacking run from Matty Rogers who burst into the box and seemed to be taking the ball wide for a cross but managed to unleash an unstoppable shot that crossed the line to put the Panthers 2-1 up, great finish Matty Rogers.  The Panthers attackers were on fire now and every player seemed to want to get on the score sheet, next up it was Dan Fletcher's turn who confidently shot at goal to put the Panthers 3-1 up.  The next Panthers goal was a super one with Mark Scott charging forward and keeping his cool when in the box and slotting home for the Panthers fourth goal of the day.

The Panthers were attacking well, but let's not forget the defence, Woodkirk got the ball a lot but Christian Hamer just ate everything up for the Panthers team which enabled the other players to get forward.  The Panthers next goal was a beauty with a lovely flowing moving involving Matty Rogers, Mark Scott and finally Dan Fletcher scored his second goal of the day to put the Panthers 5-1 up.  The Panthers final goal again came from Dan Fletcher for his hat-trick with another strong run into the Woodkirk box and a fine finish, 6-1 to the Panthers.

Woodkirk were awarded a penalty late on for hand ball, the penalty rattled the cross bar, but the Woodkirk attackers were the first to the ball and they put the ball into the back of the net to make the final score 6-2 to the Panthers.

Man of the match went to Christian Hamer who was outstanding today in defence and kept the Woodkirk attack quiet.

A good attacking team performance today with some quality finishing and a special mention to hat-trick boy Dan Fletcher, well done Dan.

Huddersfield League Cup - Round 2

"There’s cold in them there hills"

Brighouse B 1 v 2 Ossett Town Jaguars

Scorer: Ethan Morris (2)

MOM Thomas Wright, Edward Colley.

Match Reporter Phil Wright

A bright, but one could say, chilly morning saw Ossett Town Jaguars travel to the hills above Brighouse for this 2nd round cup tie against Brighouse Town B. Considering the weather, the pitch was in good condition and that led to an excellent game of football for both teams.

Ossett Town started with William Hall in goals, a defence of Thomas Wright and Edward Colley, in midfield were Ethan Morris, Elliot Smith and Alex Jolly. Lone striker was Bradley Woollin with Christopher Colley starting as sub.

Ossett Town started strongly against a determined Brighouse team with Elliot pulling the strings in midfield and Bradley and Alex both going close early on, before the excellent Ethan Morris put Ossett 1 up with a poachers goal from one of a string of  Ossett Town corners . It wasn’t long before Ossett were 2 up with a great strike from that man Ethan again. With a better final pass Ossett could have soon been further ahead but the first half finished 2-0.

A few changes at half time, William Hall now reverting to his more customary left wing role, and Alex Jolly taking over the goalies shirt. The second half started well with William and Christopher Colley working hard, carving out more chances that but for lady luck and an excellent Brighouse keeper could have put Ossett much further ahead. However Brighouse were still in the game and with 10 minutes to go they got one back to 2-1 with a poachers goal, Ossett having completely missed the Brighouse attacker stood behind them. This made Ossett even more determined as they finished strongly to successfully take the game.

Men of the match Edward Colley and Thomas Wright were rocks in defence which earnt them a joint MOM, but it could easily have gone to other players as this was an all round strong team performance, which all the players can be proud of. Well done boys !

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 2 - Woodkirk 4

Scorers: Oli Spencer (2)

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Today the Pumas travelled to a very wet, windy and cold Woodkirk Valley.

The line-up was Harry Hardy in goal, a defensive duo of Cameron Spurr and Marshall Boden, midfielders were Max Wilson, Matty Roger, Ben Fishman and Joe Holliday and the lone striker was the in form Oliver Spencer.  Joe McDaid was ill, hope you are well soon Joe.

It was fine at kick off and the kids were up for a good game.  Some good early runs from Max Wilson and great crosses in made you think goals would soon come and it did for the Pumas.  A Ben Fishman corner beautifully delivered to Oli Spencer who shot first time in the back of the net 1-0 to the Pumas.  Great corner in by Ben Fishman - they are becoming his trademark.

Woodkirk settled after the goal and played some good football, they were very strong in defence and well organised and got level soon after, 1-1 and a good end to end game.  Harry Hardy was busier today than yesterday and he made some great saves.  The first half flew by with some good efforts from Oli Spencer, who came close on numerous occassions and hit the bar, Max Wilson was lively as ever and had a superb long range shot well saved.  Half time and the score was 1-1.

The driving rain came for the second half and conditions were bad for the kids and very heavy under foot, but both teams played some quality football.  Woodkirk scored to go 2-1 up and the Pumas seemed a little shocked by this.  Harry Hardy sustained an injury making a great save from a long range Woodkirk effort and was down a while, but managed to carry on the cause for the Pumas.  A good long kick from Harry Hardy, saw the chase on with Matty Rogers, Ben Fishman and Oli Spencer all like greyhounds after the ball.  Ben Fishman was first to it, he cooly took the ball away from the keeper and onto the foot of Oli Spencer who slotted the ball home for the equaliser 2-2 and great running kids.

Woodkirk battled back well and added two further goals to make the final score 4-2.

Man of the match went to Marshall Boden who was strong all game and put some super tackles in.

Hard luck to the Pumas today, I thought you deserved a draw and you all played really well in difficult conditions.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 4 - Woodkirk 0

Scorers: Dan Fletcher (2), Callum Burden and Elliott Smith

Man of the match: Ryan Allen

Match reporter: Debie Fishman

Well the Panthers kicked off in driving rain and wind but this didn't dampen the spirits of all the players from both sides.  The Panthers started with Scott Rankin in goal, his defence was Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen, midfield was Elliot Smith, Dan Fletcher, Bradley Woollin and William Hall, up front was Callum Burden.

The Panthers were very lively from the kick off, the defence looked solid with Thomas Wright commanding things. Callum Burden was busy early on and had a few good chances which saw him just shoot wide.  Bradley Woolin was all over the field again today.  A strong run from midfield by Callum Burden into the Woodkirk half saw him attack the Woodkirk defenders and calmly pass to Dan Flethcer who slotted the ball home to put the Panthers 1-0 up.  Scott Rankin was called into action and stood up to the test well to keep a clean sheet.  Ryall Allen looked good today and nothing got past him and Elliott Smith was also running well.  The second Panthers goal came from a superb corner from Callum Burden who saw his corner go straight in the back of the net, 2-0 to the Panthers.  Half time came and the score was 2-0 to the Panthers, but it could have been more.

Second half and the Panthers contiued to attack the Woodkirk defence and a determined run from Elliott Smith saw him grab the third Panthers goal 3-0.  Bradley Woolin was quality again today, Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen soaked up all the Woodkirk attacks  and Dan Fletcher worked his socks off and was rewarded with his second goal of the day with a fine finish, 4-0 to the Panthers, well done Dan.

Full time saw the score 4-0 to the Panthers.  Man of the Match went to Ryan Allen who was confident in defence and got forward well.

Well done kids in very wet conditions, you put on a good performance and deserved the win.

Saturday 28 November 2009

Final Score: Ossett Town 4 v 0 Waterloo Wanderers

Scorers: Joe Holliday, Ben Fishman, Marshall Boden and Bradley Woolin

Man of the match: Ben Fishman

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

Well another wet, cold and very dismal morning saw the Pumas take the field for the first time against a Waterloo side.  First half saw Harry Hardy in nets, with his defence Marshall Boden and Dan Fletcher.  Cameron Spurr, Bradley Woollin and Luke Hubbard held the midfield, Ben Fishman was on the left wing with Joe Holliday up front.  The kids never seem to amaze me and no matter what the weather, they are always up for the beautiful game.  The Pumas were lively and fired up from the start and some great runs down the wing early on by Ben Fishman saw him putting some superb balls into the box, but the Pumas attack just couldn't convert them.  There were some great link up play from the back with Marshall Boden strong in defence and getting the ball forward to Bradley Woolin and Joe Holliday.  Both these players must have had three weetabix this morning, as even when they lost the ball they kept battling winning it back nearly every time.

Finally the Pumas got on the score sheet with a lovely cross and a fine low shot on the turn from Joe Holliday.  It was just what for the Pumas who had dominated from the first whistle.  The team spirit was awesome today, each player was talking and covering for each other, it really was good to see and the football was outstanding.  The Pumas next attack came from pint sized Luke Hubbard who tackled superbly and attacked the Waterloo defence at every opportunity.  A great run and a shot from Luke Hubbard was well saved by the Waterloo keeper, but thankfully for the Pumas it fell for Ben Fishman who had a lot to do at a difficult angle, but cooly put his foot on the ball and unleashed an unstoppable left foot shot which hit the back of the net, 2-0 to the Pumas.  Harry Hardy was a spectator for most of the first half, as the Pumas defence worked well together with Marshall Boden and Dan Fletcher reading the game well and all the Pumas players tracking back to help out.  Half time came with the score line 2-0, but a lot of good, quality football to talk about in the break to keep the spectators warm with no tuck shop, it was sorely missed today.

Second half and Luke Hubbard took the goalkeeper's shirt from Harry Hardy, which enabled him to have a run out and get warm.  The second half was as rewarding for the Pumas as the first half, they all continued to pass the ball at every opportunity and were talking to and covering for each other superbly.  A great attacking move from Marshall Boden who had not put a foot wrong all game getting in some very timely tackles in, saw him burst down the right, cooly and very confidently look up at goal and unleash a fine long range shot to beat the Waterloo keeper.  3-0 to the Pumas and a great strike from Marshall Boden, who turned to the spectators with a worried look on his face and needed to make sure what he had done was right!! Well done Marshall Boden.  The football really was pleasing on the eye and Harry Hardy was a giant up front, running well, holding the ball up and causing the Waterloo defenders some real problems.  It was his fine shot from outside the box that rattled the cross bar and fell for Bradley Woolin to put the ball over the line, 4-0 to the Pumas.  Hard luck Harry Hardy not to get on the scoresheet, but great goal poaching Bradley Woolin.  There were further chances that fell to Ben Fishman, Joe Holliday and Hardy Hardy but Waterloo did well to the keep the score down.  Bradley Woolin was awesome all game and is coming on each week in leaps and bounds.

The final whistle came with a stunning 4-0 victory to the Pumas, most of the spectators commented on how they didn't want the game to end as they could have watched the quality football all day.  I hope this report lives up to the game we watched today - as commented by Graham Hardy "the report should be a good one today"!

Man of the Match went to Ben Fishman who first half ran the show down the left wing and put some quality balls into the box and scored a fine goal.

A special mention to every Pumas player today, credit to the whole team for some of the best team football I have seen played, well done to all the Players.  We were all very proud parents, siblings and grandparents today and well done to the coach James Rogers.

Final Score: Ossett Town Pumas 6 v  2 Rastrick A

Scorers: Oliver Spencer (2), Matty Rogers (3), Ben Fishman

Man of the match: Matty Rogers

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

The Pumas played this friendly on a very dull, wet, dismal morning and credit to the kids who were all upbeat and not phased by the atrocious weather.  A few changes were made prior to kick off due to Rastrick's lack of players, so the Pumas started with Scott Rankin in goal, his defenders were Thomas Wright and Marshall Boden, midfield was Ryan Allen, Max Wilson, Ben Fishman and Matty Rogers, with Oli Spencer up front.

The Pumas started lively and had the early chances with a string of them falling to Oli Spencer, Ben Fishman and Matty Rogers playing pinball in the box, but the ball wouldn't go in the back of the net!  Rastrick were under pressure and the Pumas kept their fine attacking play up and with some fine runs from Max Wilson flying down the wing, the pressure finally told on the Rastrick defence when they gave away a penalty.  Matty Rogers stepped up and cooly slotted the ball home.   Matty Rogers was in fine form today and soon added his second goal with a fine shot, 2-0 to the Pumas.  Rastrick kept their composure though and played some good football and soon got on the score sheet with a superb long range effort which Scott could do nothing about.  The Pumas soaked up some further attacks from the Rastrick forwards, Marshall Boden was outstanding in defence and Thomas Wright was very comfortable as his partner and made some timely tackles.  The next Pumas goal came soon came, a corner from Oli Spencer was only partially cleared, the ball falling to Ben Fishman eight yards out and he slotted the ball in to the bottom corner of the net.  Another good run from Ben Fishman into the box and great determination saw the ball fall kindly to Oli Spencer who slotted home his first goal of the day, making it 4-1 at half time.

Second half and the driving rain didn't dampening the kids spirits.  Ryan Allen was all over the field and tackled well today. Max Wilson kept making a nuisance of himself and Matty Rogers kept driving his team forward.  Oli Spencer added to his goal tally to make it 5-1 with another fine effort and then the sixth Pumas goal came from a good run strong run into the box from Oli Spencer whose shot hit the bar and bounced on the line and with Matty Rogers waiting like a predator he tapped the ball over to secure his hat-trick.  Rastrick hit back with a goal to make the final score 6-2 to the Pumas.

Man of the Match went to Matty Rogers, who was all over the field today, scored a hat-trick including converting a cooly took the penalty.  A special mention to Oli Spencer who scored two today and caused general havoc to the Rastrick defence, well done Oli and a good all round team effort in poor conditions.  Well done to all of the kids who played in this game, the Panthers game and the friendly and a special mention to the Tuck Shop ladies whose service as usual was spot on.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 8 v 0 Rastrick B

Scorers:  Joe Holliday (3), Oli Spencer (2), Callum Burden (2), Cameron Spurr (1)

Man of the match: Bradley Woollin

Match reporter: Neill Fishman

A rejig before the first game saw a number of players changing teams.  However, this didn't affect the Panthers performance, which was excellent throughout.  An uneventful first ten minutes was soon forgotten when Joe Holliday, who played very well today, burst in to the box and put a fine shot in to the bottom left hand corner to make it 1-0.  Bradley Woolin, who I must say had his best game in an Ossett shirt today, then went on a long run but was just unable to convert.   However, the constant pressure from the Panthers soon brought a second goal with what I must say was a fine finish and a thunderbolt from Callum Burden.  Joe Holliday then went on a long run and looked to have been fouled in the box, but the referee waved play on.  This didn't dampen the Panthers spirits and Oli Spencer soon added a third goal to make it 3-0 at half time.

The second half began and Bradley Woollin was inspired making a couple of fine runs, which just didn't materialise into goals.  However, it wasn't long before the fourth goal came, with a fine shot from Cameron Spurr who is improving week on week.  A fifth soon followed with a cool finish from Callum Burden, which soon became six with a second goal from Oli Spencer.  It wasn't all one way though, Rastrick can count themselves unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, with Harry hardy called on to make a couple of fine saves and Joe McDaid making some timely interceptions.   Dan Fletcher was coming more into the game driving the Panthers forward and a fine ball ball from him to William Hall and a one two with Joe Holliday, saw Joe convert to make it 7-0.  The scoring was complete when Joe got his hat-trick to make it 8-0.  Well done Joe!

Two players today had their best games in an Ossett shirt, Bradley Woollin and Joe Holliday.  Bradley just shaded the man of the match award, he was all over the field today and thoroughly deserved it.  Well done Bradley!

Final score: Ossett Town Jaguars 2 v 4 Ossett Town Tigers

Scorers: Alex Jolly (1), Scott Rankin (1), Luke Hubbard (2), Max Wilson (1), Christian Hamer (1).

Jaguars Man Of The Match: Alex Jolly.

Tigers Man Of The Match: Christian Hamer.

Match reporter: Lisa Wardman.

Playing on home turf on a windy wet dinnertime saw the Ossett Town friendly kick off to a fine start with Seb Fealy in goals for the jaguars and his team consisted of Thomas Wright and Holly Saynor in defence and in midfield was Dan Fletcher, Harrison Joss and Scott Rankin and up front was the mighty Alex Jolly.

On the Tigers side was Mathew Rogers in the goals and his team consisted of Harry Graves and Luke Hubbard in defence and in midfield we saw Lewis wardman,Christian Hamer and Harry Hardy, upfront was young William Fealy.

The Tigers went into action from the very start by making numerous attempts at goal but the heat was on as the Jaguars started to push forward with some great passes and tackles but the Tigers defence line was very strong but this did not phase the Jaguars, half time whistle blew and the score was 0-0.

A bit of a change round in the second half and the goalkeeper for the Tigers was Will Fealy and the Jaguars was Holly Saynor and two extra players was brought on to make it 8 aside and that was Ben Fishman and William Hall, within the first minute of the second half a goal was scored by the Jaguars player Scott Rankin, then a goal came in from Luke Hubbard to make an even 1-1, then a good cross from Max wilson led to another goal, and other goals were scored from both teams to make the final score 4-2 to the Tigers,

Man of the match for the Jaguars went to Alex Jolly

Man of the match for the Tigers went to Christian Hamer,

Well done to all of you for a lively frindly match well done boys !.

The Pumas were hit by a sickness bug today, with Joe McDaid, Harry Hardy and Ben Fishman all unable to take the field.  As a consequence Scott Rankin and Joe Holliday were drafted in.  The absence of the three players didn't seem to effect the team and they were positive from the first whistle.  Oliver Spencer went close early on, with the Pumas having the majority of possession.  However, Rothwelll had some very lively attackers and Cameron Spurr and Marshall Boden had their hands full to contain them.  After ten minutes and against the run of play Rothwell broke away to go 1-0 up.  This did not dent the Pumas confidence though with Matthew Rogers and the always lively Max Wilson driving the team forward.  Numerous efforts from Matthew Rogers, Max Wilson and Oliver Spencer went just wide or were well saved by the keeper, with all rebounds following kindly for the visitors.  Joe Holliday started to come in to the game making some fine runs and knocking some accurate crosses in to the box.  At this point it only looked like a matter of time before the Pumas would draw level, but a second break away goal from Rothwell gave the score sheet an very unfair look.  Half time came and somehow the Pumas were 2-0 down.

Following an inspired half time team talk the Pumas came out fighting and started moving the ball more quickly and with purpose.  A driving run followed by a fine shot from Joe Holliday was going just wide until Oliver Spencer reacted superbly from six yards out to head the ball in to the roof of the net to put the Pumas back in the game.  Rothwell came back from the kick off and Scott Rankin was called in to action on numerous occasions to make a number of fine blocks, saves and catches to keep his side in the game.  Midway throught the half a corner for the Pumas resulted in a fine delivery in to the box from Oliver Spencer, which was put in to his own net by a Rothwell defender to level the scores at 2-2.  Chances came for both sides with Matthew Rogers, Max Wilson, Oliver Spencer and Joe Holliday all having efforts for the Pumas.  Just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw a scramble from a corner saw the ball just cross the Pumas line to put Rothwell 3-2 up.  The Pumas ralllied in the closing minutes but just couldn't manage to find the equaliser.  The game ended 3-2, which was very harsh on the Pumas, all seven of whom put in excellent performances.

Man of the match went to Scott Rankin who was excellent in goal on debut for the Pumas.  Well done Scott!

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 2 v Rothwell Town 4

Scorers: Dan Fletcher (2)

Man of the match: Ryan Allen

Match reporter: Neill Fishman

The Panthers started very slowly and couldn't seem to get in to the game for the first few minutes.  Rothwell dominated possession and went one up early on, with an effort that gave Luke Hubbard in goal no chance.  The home side then had to contain the away side from going further in front with some fine defending from Ryan Allen and Thomas Wright who were both getting their foot in when needed.  As the half wore on the Panthers came more in to the game with Dan Fletcher, William Hall and Callum Burden getting on the ball more.  A fine move from the Panthers saw the ball break between Dan Flecther and Bradley Woollin just a few yards out from goal.  The Panthers seemed certain to socre, but the two seemed to leave it to each other and the chance was lost.  Midway through the half a free kick from Rothwell deceived both attack and defence and drfited straight in to the net to make it 2-0 to Rothwell at half time.

Second half and their was a transformation in the Panthers who looked a different side, with Dan Fletcher driving the team forward.  It was he who with a fine run and cool finish put his team back in the game.  Minutes later a corner resulted in the ball following to Dan Fletcher eight yards out and he slotted the ball neatly home to make it 2-3.  At this point it looked like the comeback was on.  Unfortunately straight from the kick off a Rothwell player ran through virtually the whole Panthers team to restore the two goal lead.  This didn't deter the Panthers and Callum Burden went close, as did Bradley Woollin who seemed certain to score but was denied at the last by fine defending and goalkeeping.  Ryan Allen continued to defend well putting in some fine tackles, though a couple were ouside the rule book.  The Panthers struggled with goal kicks all game putting themselves under unnecessary pressure gifting the ball to Rothwell on numerous occasions resulting in Luke Hubbard been called in to action when it could have been avoided.  Something to work on in training.

The final whistle came with the score 4-2 to Rothwell.  A sluggish first half cost the Panthers the game, but all the boys showed tremendous spirit in the second half to almost rescue the game and with a bit more composure at times near and in front of goal might well have done so.  Man of the match went to Ryan Allen who was solid throughout.

Lepton Highlanders 7  Ossett Town Jaguars 1 (Lewis Wardman)

Men Of The Match: Mark Scott and Elliot Smith

It was a lovely sunny morning for Ossett Town Jaguars to travel to opponents Lepton Highlanders. Jaguars began with Jamie White in goal, a defensive line up of Edward Colley and Mark Scott, midfield players Seb Fealy, Elliot Smith and Christian Hamer, and Alex Jolly the lone striker. Ossett inflicted early pressure on Lepton with Alex Jolly doing an inventive overhead kick and good running from Christian, Seb and Elliot. Lepton then seemed to get into their stride and it took Mark Scott to leap into the air and head the ball away from the Ossett goal.  There then followed a great spell of 1 - 2 passing which had been taught in the previous days training session, but Ossett seemed unable to find the back of the net. Lepton were awarded a corner and somehow managed to get hold of the ball and score the first goal of the game. From the kick off, Lepton were on the attack again and although Jamie got his hands on the ball, the pressure of the kick made it hard to hold and it went over the line, making a half time score of 2 -0 to Lepton.

The second half saw Ossett with Christopher Colley up front for Alex Jolly, with the remainder of the team staying as they were. Although feeling a little under the weather, Christopher started strong with a great shot going just wide. Unfortunately the Lepton keeper came out and collided with Christopher causing his nose to bleed  and so he was replaced by Thomas Danson. Ossett were again on the attack, Elliot was on fire, releasing the fury at every opportunity! The next goal was to be Leptons though with all of the Jaguars drawn up on the attack, Lepton won the ball and put it down the field and past Jamie to make it 3 - 0. Ossett started to press again with a great run by Christian who passed to Seb, his resulting shot going just wide. Thomas Danson was then replaced by Lewis Wardman and Ossett seemed to be inspired. Elliot once again had the ball at his feet and danced past the Lepton defenders only to see his shot palmed out by the keeper, Lewis had anticipated this well and was there to slot the ball home into the back of the net, 3 -1! Unfortunately this was the turning point as Ossett tired and even though Mark and Edward were impressive in clearing the ball for Ossett, Lepton kept up the pressure, scoring 4 more goals in quick succession. The final whistle blew and the score was 7 -1 to Lepton. Ossett's man of the match went to 2 players, Mark Scott for a great first half defensive performance, and Elliot Smith for his second half non stop attacking runs. This was a great overall team performance and Ossett never gave in and played well together showing good teamwork.

Gildersome Spurs 2 v 6 Ossett Town Pumas

Scorers: Oliver
Spencer (4), Matty Rogers, Max Wilson

Man of the match: Oliver Spencer

Match reporter: James Rogers

Team: Harry Hardy, Cameron Spurr, Marshall Boden, Matty Rogers, Max Wilson, Joe McDaid, Dan Fletcher, Elliot Smith

The Pumas took the lead with Oliver Spencer slotting home after breaking the Gildersome defence.  Gildersome though were responding well and Harry Hardy had to be at his best to stop Spurs scoring.   Spencer scored the second, with a very similar goal to his first - composure and precision.  Gildersome got a goal back before half-time to make it 2 v 1.  In the second half Gildersome started the strongest and got a well deserved equaliser.  From then on though Town were to take control of the game.  First, Spencer got Town in the lead with a goal that came from strength and clear determination.  Spencer got his fourth shortly after to put Town two goals clear.  Gildersome did have chances in the second half but Hardy was once again in excellent form to deny the opposition a goal.  It was then the turn of Matty Rogers and Max Wilson to take over.  First, Rogers made an excellent run beating two defenders and then nut-megged the keeper.  Second, Wilson got an excellent and well deserved goal following some fantastic play on the right of midfield.  Cameron Spurr was once again strong in defence, supported by the reliable Dan Fletcher and Marshall Boden.  Joe McDaid worked hard in midfield as did Elliot Smith.  A great performance, well done boys.

Gildersome Spurs 0 v 3 Ossett Town Panthers

Scorers: Will Hall, Alex Jolly and Edward Colley

Men of the Match: Will Hall and Scott Rankin

Match reporter: James Rogers

Team: Scott Rankin, Edward Colley, Chris Colley, Alex Jolly, Will Hall, Tom Danson, Luke Hubbard, Mark Scott

The Panthers took control of this game from the off.  Will Hall was in particularly good form on the left of midfield and Scott Rankin was once again reliable between the sticks.  With the opposition having the benefit of the slope in the first half, Town were content on keeping a clean sheet at half-time with the scoreline at 0 v 0.  With the benefit of the slope Town slowly turned the screw.  First it was Hall who got the first goal following some good determined work on the left.   Alex Jolly got the second after running a good 25 yards with the ball and slotting home.  Gildersome did threaten on the rare occassion but Rankin was solid in goal and calmly soaked up all of the pressure supported by Luke Hubbard, Mark Scott and Chris Colley.   The third goal came in the last five minutes and it was young Edward Colley who scored with a nice shot into the corner of the net.  Tom Danson also had a good game today creating numerous chances.  A fantasic result - well done guys.

Saturday 7th November 2009

On the coldest Saturday morning of the year so far, the Panthers met in o beautiful but very hard to find destination in Holmfirth.

In goal was Jamie White who did some amazing saves showing outstanding courage and determination.

The first half saw Jacob Merricks and Lewis Wardman in defence both helping Jamie where possible and fighting to keep up to the opposition.

Holly Saynor and Alistair Haigh were up front making some great passes to each other which paid off wonderfully as Holly scored a fantastic goal

Harry Graves and Seb Fealy played in midfield and really helped the two defenders

Unfortunately the half ended 5, 1.

Second half saw Harrison Joss join us, with a team talk from Steve gave the kids a real boost and determination they needed.

All the children showed real fight but they still lost 11 , 1.

At the end Steve asked the children individually who they thought the man of the match should be and the team showed real team sprit by picking a different child.

Leaving Steve to make the choice it went to a very deserving Jamie White

This young man shone and never lost his smile well done.

Well done all.

Ossett Town Pumas 2 v 5 Dewsbury Rangers

Final Score: 2-5

Scorers: Oliver Spencer and Callum Burden

Man of the match: Thomas Wright

Match reporter: Debbie Fishman

A lovely warm and sunny winter's morning saw the Pumas kick off after a two week break.  Harry Hardy was in goal, his defence was Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen, midfield was Ben Fishman, Matty Rogers and Joe Holliday, with the lone striker the in form Oliver Spencer.  Callum Burden and Bradley Woollin started as subs.  Straight from the kick off the Pumas gained possession and a fine run from Oliver Spencer into the box saw his shot well saved, following up was Ben Fishman, whose shot was also well saved, a great positive start from the Pumas.  Dewsbury were shocked into action and grabbed a quick goal to go1-0 up.  The Pumas looked a little shell shocked at going behind and to be honest looked half asleep, but some spurring on from the coach and crowd urged them forward and a great run from Joe Holliday saw him put a perfect ball into the danger area and Oliver Spencer's clinical finish put the Pumas level.  At this point you thought it was going to be a good entertaining end of end game with plenty of goals, this came but only one way - Dewsbury were strong in attack and the Pumas players didn't get back enough to support the defence.  Thomas Wright was like a giant and battled hard and tried to do it all, but Dewsbury added a quick succession of goals to make the score 4-1.  A few changes saw Callum Burden on in midfield and Bradley Woolin into defence.  These changes steadied the ship a bit and a great run by Ben Fishman saw him put a superb ball onto Oliver Spencer's reliable right foot, only to see the shot go just wide.  Half time came with the score 4-1 to Rangers.

Second half and Thomas Wright was still soldiering on in defence.  Harry Hardy made some superb saves and got injured for his troubles.  Joe Holliday was busy all over the pitch and Bradley Wollin made some timely tackles.  Matty Rogers made some good runs late in the half and with a bit more clinical finishing the Pumas could have got back into this game, but every shot seem to be well saved or just go wide.  A lovely move from Matty Rogers who beat two Rangers defenders saw him put a ball into Ben Fishman who had made a great run, but just couldn't connect with the ball and ended up flying into the post.  Hard luck Matty and Ben that would have been a superb goal.  The Pumas kept going though and Callum Burden was strong in his tackles and got his reward when he got possession of the ball just outside the area and unleashed a great shot into the back of the net to make the score 5-2.  Great goal Callum - that's how you finish.

Full time came with the score 5-2 to Dewsbury Rangers.  Man of the match went  to Thomas Wright who each game seems to get better and better.  He had another outstanding game today.  A special mention to Harry Hardy who was very disappointed with the result and played on after an injury but couldn't do anything about any of the goals conceded today, head up son.

Sunday 25 October 2009

Final Score: Ossett Town 6 - 0 Brighouse B

Sorers: Ben Fishman, Dan Fletcher (3), Bradley Woolin, Alex Jolly

Man of the match: Whole Team

Match reporter: Neill Fishman

The Pumas dominated this game from start to finish against a Brighouse side who battled bravely throughout.  The strong wind somewhat spoiled the match, but it didn't stop the Pumas from playing some lovely flowing football from the off.  Bradley Woollin had a rare outing up front and it was he who put the Pumas 1 - 0 up in the first few minutes with a lovely run to beat one defender and coolly slot the ball home past the keeper.  The Pumas continued to press again straight from the re-start and a back pass from one of the Brighouse defender's to his keeper resulted in a free-kick being awarded on the edge of the box.  Ben Fishman stepped up and with his left foot smashed it in to the back of the net off the bar to make it 2 - 0.  Jamie White who was in goal for the Pumas hardly saw sight of the ball first half and the two defenders, Joe McDaid and Alex Jolly were also very rarely troubled.  In spite of further pressure and a number of near misses the scored remained at 2 - 0 as the half time whistle blew.

The second half kicked off and carried on from where the first had finished, with the Pumas almost constantly on the attack.  Thomas Wright replaced Alex Jolly in defence and once again he stood strong all game.   This allowed Alex Jolly to move up front and he was soon rewarded with a goal.  A fine cross from the left by Ben Fishman saw Alex slot the ball home with a fine finish.  Less than a minute later Ben Fishman beat three defenders to set Alex Jolly up with an open goal, but the ball took an unfortunate bobble and he shot just wide.  Elliot Smith was now coming more in to the game, making some strong runs from central midfield in to the box.  Following another substitution Joe McDaid was pushed up front and he had a number of fine runs and shots, which were either blocked or saved by the keeper.  Bradley Woollin, Ben Fishman and Elliot Smith all went close, but the remainder of the half belonged to Dan Fletcher who hit a quick fire hat-trick.  His first was a fine shot from outside the box, his second a neat finish close in following a cross from the left by Ben Fishman and his third as a result of a fine run by Bradley Woollin.  Well done Dan.  Late on Brighouse got on the attack and Jamie White was called on to make his only stop of the game.

The final whistle came with the score 6-0.  Man of the match was awarded to the whole team who all battled well and ran their socks off the whole game.  A special Manager's mention goes to Ben Fishman who was excellent on the left all game, scoring one goal and unselfishly creating a number of goals and other chances for his team mates, with some fine runs, crosses and passes.

Final Score: Ossett Town Panthers 2 - 0 Brighouse D

Goalscorers:  Christian Hamer, Ethan Morris

Man of the match: Whole Team

Match reporter : Neill Fishman

By the time the Panthers kicked off the weather had deteriorated with strong winds and rain almost throughout the game.  Mark Scott started in goal and was a virtual spectator for most of the half.  Christian Hamer was all over the field, particularly in attack and he was causing Brighouse constant problems every time he got the ball.  Harry Graves was getting his foot in, as was Lewis Wardman who made a number of good interceptions in defence.  Jacob Merricks made a number of surging runs from the back to feed Alistair Haigh who showed some tidy foot work to go close on a number of occasions early on.  Ethan Morris also had a couple of half chances, but the ball just seemed as though it was destined not to go in.  That was until Christian Hamer ran in to the Brighouse box and hit a left foot shot, which the goalkeeper spilled to allow the ball to go over the line and in to the net.  It wasn't all one way traffic though and the Panthers defence and goalkeeper were called in to action on a number of occasions to prevent Brighouse getting back in to the game.  Half time soon came with the score still at 1 - 0.

The second half started with Christian Hamer going in goal and Mark Scott slotting in up front.  Holly Saynor showed some strong determination early on getting in a number of crunching tackles, in spite of taking a knock in one of them.  A great ball from Lewis Wardman found Mark Scott whose shot was well saved by the Brighouse keeper.  At the other end Christian Hamer made an excellent save from what was Brighouse's only real clear cut opportunity.  Harry Graves was strong again second half making some excellent tackles, as was Jacob Merricks.  Alistair Haigh and Mark Scott in particular continued to press for the Panthers to try and get the second goal to make the game safe.  Just when it looked like it wouldn't come Ethan Morris slotted in from a tight angle with an excellent effort to make it 2-0.  Brighouse began to cause more problems in the last five minutes or so, but in spite of battling hard just couldn't get themselves on the scoresheet.  Final score 2-0.

The Manager's man of the match award once again went to the whole team who were superb, particularly in terrible weather conditions towards the end.  Well done!

Pumas 1 - Norristhorpe 1

Goalscorers : Oli Spencer

Man of the match: Marshall Boden

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

On their travels again over the weekend the Pumas hit the road to take on Norristhorpe.  Once again the outstanding Harry Hardy was in goal, His defence today was the partnership of Alex Jolly and Marshall Boden, midfield was Matty Rogers, Ben Fishman, Mark Scott, Elliot Smith and Christian Hamer, up front was Oli Spencer.

The quickest Puma's goal I have seen came straight from the kick off today when Oli Spencer got the ball from the kick off and ran beating three Norristhorpe defenders to put the ball into the back of the net.  The Pumas were obviously spurred on by this and further efforts at goal came from Matty Rogers, Oli Spencer and Ben Fishman.  Norristhorpe then settled into their play and Marshall Boden and Alex Jolly were called into action but stood up to the test very well, with help from Matty Rogers and Elliott Smith tracking back to assist.  Two further efforts from Oli Spencer went near and a fabulous ball from Christian Hamer into the path of Oli Spencer saw his shot hit the post.  Half time soon approaching and Harry Hardy was called into action with two superb saves to make sure the Pumas went into half time in the lead.

Second half and Norristhorpe were hunting for the equaliser, which they got and the Pumas were under pressure then and they had to dig in as a team and battle hard.  This they did and Oli Spencer got winded in a tackle doing so but managed to carry on.  Not many chances for the Pumas second half and to be honest we were rueing the ones in the first half that they didn't convert into goals.

Full time and the score was an incredible 1-1.

Man of the match went to Marshall Boden who stood tall in defence and tackled really well for this side.

Well played today Pumas, a bit more clinical finishing first half and the score line would have been different, but you created some great chances and defended really well.  A really good end to end game.

Panthers 3 - Norristhorpe 6

Goalscorers : Matty Rogers (3)

Man of the match: Seb Fealy

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

The Panthers were on the road again this weekend to Norristhorpe.  Jamie White was in goal, his defence was Lewis Wardman and Harrison Joss, midfield was Jacob Merricks, Harry Graves and Seb Fealy.  Up front was Alistair Haigh. S ubs for the Panthers were Harry Hardy and Matty Rogers.

The Panthers started lively with good running from Jacob Merricks and Alistair Haigh.  The defence was busy from the off and Lewis Wardman and Harrison Joss held the line together really well.  Seb Fealy was busy all game and made some superb tackles to win the ball for the Panthers.  Jacob Merricks made some fine runs through midfield and got injured a few times, but kept strong and started some promising attacks for the Panthers.  Norristhorpe looked lively though and were very quick to the ball and soon grabbed a couple of goals to go 2-0 up.  Harry Hardy was brought on and soon got on the attack and had a great shot at goal, which was unlucky.  Norristhorpe added another goal soon to make the half time score 3-0.

Second half and Matty Rogers was drafted into the game and soon had a few shots at goal.  He finally got the Panthers on the score sheet with a cool finish to make the score 3-1.  Harrison Joss was next to go near having a shot well saved.  Norristhorpe added a fourth goal, but the highlight of the game for me was when Jamie White didn't save once, or twice he made three stunning saves back to back to keep the Norristhorpe attack out, great goalkeeping Jamie White.

Norristhorpe did add a further goal to make the score 5-1 but the Panthers kept their heads up and some great play from Harry Graves and Seb Fealy really urged their team on.  Matty Rogers grabbed his second goal of the game with a fine shot into the bottom corner to make the score 5-2.  Norristhorpe added another goal, 6-2 but the Panthers weren't finished and another superb shot from Matty Rogers saw him get his hat-trick.

Final score 6-3 to Norristhorpe.

Man of the match went to Seb Fealy who was all over the pitch today and got back and helped out in defence at every opportunity and also got some great tackles in.

Well battled today Panthers, you were beaten by a good Norristhorpe side but you played well as a team.

Pumas 2 - Wortley Juniors 3

Goalscorers : Oli Spencer (2)

Man of the match: Cameron Spurr

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

The highlight of the week for some of us was the breaking news that Hannah Hardy's hanging tooth of months had finally come out, but not happy just with the one, she also lost the one next to it too, so the tooth fairy made two visits to the Hardy household.  I must say what a cutie she looks without her two front teeth.

Onto the football, the Pumas travelled for their first Cup game to Wortley this morning, with the trusted Harry Hardy in goal.  His defence was the paring of Marshall Boden and Cameron Spurr, Max Wilson and  Ben Fishman on the left and right of midfield with Matty Rogers centre midfield and Oli Spencer up front.  Callum Burden started as sub.

Early on and you could see the Pumas were up against this.  Wortley looked very settled and impressive as a team and they had most of the early pressure making the Pumas players track back to defend and Harry Hardy was called upon on several occassions to make some great saves.  The crowd was eager on both sides for the players to get on the score sheet early on and the first goal soon came for Wortley.  After the early shock the Pumas settled into their play after the early setback and played some good football, chances falling to Oli Spencer, Ben Fishman and Matty Rogers.   At the other end Harry Hardy was once again called upon and made two outstanding saves.  A great Pumas move saw Max Wilson attack down the wing and put a perfect ball into Ben Fishman whose stunning left foot shot just whistled wide.

Half time came with the score 1-0 to Wortley.

Second half and Wortley were the quicker out of the blocks and soon added a second goal which resulted in keeper Harry Hardy getting a knock.  The Pumas kept their composure though and got on the score sheet with a delightful ball threw by Matty Rogers to Oli Spencer who finished clinically to make the score 2-1 to Wortley.  Once again Worltey started confidently from the re-start and added a third goal to make the score 3-1.  Thankfully the Pumas kept going and batlled well, with Callum Burden and Max Wilson putting some timely tackles in and another fine strike by Oli Spencer made the score 3-2 going into a nervy last few minutes of the game, but time ran out for the Pumas, final score 3-2 to Wortley.

Man of the match went to Cameron Spurr who stood like a giant in defence for the Pumas and took a few knocks but carried on for this team.

Well battled today boys, it was a tough first Cup encounter, but you all rose to the occasion superbly.

Panthers 0 - Wortley Juniors 5

Man of the match: Thomas Wright

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

The Panthers kicked off their Cup run with the journey to Wortley.  In goal was Scott Rankin, in front of him in defence was Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen, midfield consisted of Bradley Woollin, William Hall and Edward Colley, Joe Holliday was the lone striker.  Christopher Colley started as a sub.

Once again Ossett were up against a well organised Wortley side but this didn't phase the Panthers, there were some lovely passing play between Christopher Colley, Bradley Woollin and Joe Holliday, it really was a pleasure to watch.  Ryan Allen got stuck in right from the kick off and had a number of injuries, but it didn't keep him from soildering on and holding the back line with Thomas Wright.  The highlight of the first half was when the Panthers were awarded an indirect free kick after a back pass by Wortley, a perfect pass from Ryan Allen to Joe Holliday's feet saw his shot go agonisingly wide.  The Panthers kept battling well, but were on the defensive most of the half.

Half time soon came with the score 0-0.

Wortley came out the second half very lively and scored three quick goals, but the Panthers kept their team formation and some great tackles from William Hall and Christopher Colley really lifted their spirits.  Joe Holliday and Christopher Colley were busy up front and finding some great attacking space, but the ball just wouldn't fall for them.  Both players had a good couple of efforts at goal and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet.  Wortley added a further two goals to make the final score 5-0.

Man of the match went to Thomas Wright who was solid at the back throughout for the Panthers.

Well played today kids, Wortley were a very good side but I didn't think they were five goals better than you today.  You played some good fast, flowing football at times.

Glen Juniors 3 - Pumas 0

Man of the Match: Cameron Spurr (1st half), Harry Hardy (2nd half)

Match Reporter: James Rogers

The line up was Harry Hardy in goals.  Joe McDaid and Dan Fletcher in defence.  Cameron Spurr just in front of the two defenders.  Matty Rogers and Max Wilson deep in the centre of midfield and Oli Spencer up-front.  Ryan Allen was sub.

Was a mixed performance from the Pumas.  First half saw a strong performance with Joe McDaid and Cameron Spurr particularly doing well to snuff out the Glen attack.  Glen did get a goal at a time when a player was off of the pitch having his boots tied.  But the Pumas were strong and with only one goal down at half-time were still in the game.

In the second half Glen were two strong and put two good goals away.  At the other end, Town couldn't turn possession into goals.

Final score 3 v 0.   Cameron Spurr was given man of the match for a solid first half performance and goalkeeper Harry Hardy got the award for the second half with some sterling work in goals.

Glen Juniors 4 - Ossett Town Panthers 2

Ossett Goal Scorers Alex Jolly, Mark Scott

Man of the Match: Edward Colley

Match Reporter: Steve Hall

A blustery damp wintry morning saw Ossett away to high flying Glen Juniors. Glen are a very good footballing side and it was going to be a tough ask for the Panthers to get a result here.

Starting line-up was Scott Rankin in goals, a back 2 of William Hall and Edward Colley, a midfield of Christopher Colley, Elliot Smith and Alex Jolly and Mark Scott as lone striker. Starting as subs were Thomas Danson and Christian Hamer.

Right from the start it was easy to see how well Glen played the ball, but not to be outdone the Panthers held their own and started to pressurise the Glen defence leading to a super break out of midfield, Elliot, Mark, Christopher and Alex all pressing for goal, the final touch coming to Alex Jolly who put the ball in the net comfortably. 1-0 Panthers. However this lead seemed to kick start the Glen midfield and they started to put the Panthers under more pressure but the midfield and back 2 of William and Edward were up for the task, clearing their lines on several occasions including one goal line clearance which the Glen faithful felt had crossed the line, play on said the referee. On the couple of occasions the Glen attackers got through the defence Scott was there to keep the ball out of the net with a series of excellent saves. However a moment of skill from the Glen midfield led to an excellent shot from the angle which Scott couldn’t keep out, 1-1. A quick re-shuffle of the Panthers line-up and Christian came on for Elliot and Thomas for Alex, both slotting in well in their respective roles. By now the Glen attack were into their stride and the Panthers were under more pressure, 2 poor periods of tackling near the end of the half however led to Glen going in at half time 3-1 in front.

Second half and another re-shuffle, William and Christopher having a well-earned rest, Christian dropping into defence, Elliot back into his midfield berth and Alex back on the wing. The second half started at the same pace as the first half, both teams matching each other, but Elliot’s restart was short-lived, taking a nasty ball in the stomach which left him on the sidelines while he recovered. William dropped into midfield to replace him. Again goal line clearances and near misses were the order of the day but it was pleasing to see all the Panthers working to keep Glen midfield and attackers at bay. Then a superb break out of midfield and an excellent shot from Mark led to Panthers second goal, game on, 3-2.

The final change saw Edward  have a rest after a superb all round defensive performance which earned him a well deserved MOM, Thomas dropping back to take up the defensive role, which he seemed to relish, and Mark having a rest to be replaced by Christopher up front. Panthers pushed for the elusive equaliser but during one of their attacks they were caught by a superb solo run from a Glen midfielder who finished cleanly to make the final score 4-2.

Overall an excellent performance against a very good Glen team. We just need to keep concentration throughout and then the wins will come.

Glen Juniors 5 - Ossett Town Jaguars 3

Goals: Matthew Rogers 3

Man of the Match: Harry Graves (1st half), Lewis Wardman (2nd half)

Match Reporter: Daz White

The Jaguar team today:

Jamie White -  Jamie found it hard to stay focused today, but when his mind was on the game he made some great saves.

Lewis Wardman - 2nd half player of the match with a confident defensive performance.

Harrison Joss - Made some excellent runs from midfield and put in some good crosses for his team mates.

Scott Rankin - Worked tirelessly throughout the game as an outfield player, seemed to be all over the pitch, tackled hard.

Harry Graves - 1st half player of the match, ran well with the ball and passed at the right time whilst managing to get back and defend.

Harry Hardy - As confident playing outfield as he is in the nets, fantastic headers, numerous shots, unlucky not to be on the score sheet.

Matty Rogers - Gave 100% effort as always, took some fabulous corners and was always in the right position to get the 3 goals.

This was a particularly hard game for the Jaguars, due to having no substitutes and 3 players having played in the previous league games. However, they showed grit and determination and never stopped trying. Well done boys!!!

Pumas 4 - Hartshead 1

Goalscorers : Oli Spencer (3), Cameron Spurr

Man of the match: Oli Spencer

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

Today saw the Pumas take on a strong Hartshead side.  In goal was the ever reliable Harry Hardy, with his defence the awesome pairing of Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden.  In midfield were Max Wilson, Matty Rogers and Cameron Spurr, with Oli Spencer up front.  Dan Fletcher started as a sub, as he was required to play in the second game.

The Pumas started lively and a long range shot by Cameron Spurr whistled just wide.  Hartshead looked a good team and were very well organised and on their first attack they put the ball into the back of the next to make it 1-0.  The Pumas kept strong though and played some superb stuff with some great runs into the box from Oli Spencer and great back up play from Cameron Spurr.  The defence of Marshall Boden and Joe McDaid worked really well today, both reading the game very well, with Max Wilson also making some great runs down the right wing.  Pumas pressure finally paid off when they were awarded a penalty after a hand ball in the area.  Oli Spencer stepped up to take it, but his shot was well saved by the Hartshead keeper and you wondered if the Pumas would get on the score sheet today.  Then a lovely flowing move involving Matty Rogers and Cameron Spurr saw the ball fall nicely to Oli Spencer whose lovely back heel fell kindly to Cameron Spurr who was on hand a yard from goal to level the scores at 1-1.  Hartshead were soon back on the attack though and Harry Hardy was called upon on two occasions to make match saving saves which resulted in the half time score remaining at 1-1.

Second half and after their refreshments and team talk the Pumas came out on the attack.  Oli Spencer was as hungry as ever to get on the score sheet and this he did in awesome fashion.  A fine team move saw him slot the ball home from close range to put his side 2-1 up.  Hartshead kept their cool though and continued to play well and cause problems, but the Pumas stood up to it and were up for more goals themselves.  Great defensive play saw the ball then move on to Max Wilson and Matty Rogers who gave Oli Spencer freedom to run into the box and add his second of the game with a cool finish in to the bottom corner of the net to make the score 3-1.  Dan Fletcher made a brief appearance and steadied the back line, but the day was all about finishing and Oli Spencer grabbed his hat-trick with another stunning shot to make the final score 4-1 to the Pumas.

Man of the Match went to hat-trick boy Oli Spencer, whose finishing was spot on today.

Well done to all the Pumas players, a great team performance today - keep it up.

Panthers 4 - Hartshead 1

Goalscorers : Ben Fishman (3), Callum Burden

Man of the match: Ben Fishman

Match reporter : Debbie Fishman

The Panthers started this game after watching the goal feast by the Pumas against a strong Hartshead team, with a number of their first team players lining up again.  In goal was the confident Jamie White, with his comprising Seb Fealy and Dan Fletcher.  Midfield was strong with Callum Burden, Joe Holliday and Ben Fishman and the lone striker for the first half was Ethan Morris.  Will Fealy started as a sub.

The Panthers looked up for this game and early on there was a lovely understanding between Joe Holliday, Callum Burden and Ben Fishman.  The Panthers pressure was clear to see with Callum Burden having the first shot at the Hartshead keeper, which went just wide.  He was all over the field and a lovely run into the box and perfect pass to Ethan Morris saw his shot well saved.  The Panthers defence didn't have much to do early on,  but Hartshead did have a good attack and Jamie White was called into action to make a fine save.

Another strong run from Callum Burden and lovely ball into the box saw Ben Fishman on the end of this one, who with his trusted left foot shot into the back of the net to put the home side 1-0 up.  Joe Holliday and Ben Fishman were strong in midfield, but were also tracking back into defence to help out at all costs.  Seb Fealy and Dan Fletcher had a busy spell but managed to keep the Hartshead attackers at bay.  Just before half time  a strong run by Ben Fishman saw him cross/shoot at goal from some way out and from a narrow angle the ball managed to beat the Hartshead keeper to put the Panthers 2-0 going into half time.

Second half and Ethan Morris slotted in to defence and Will Fealy went in attack, but once again it was all about the attacking play today and some really excellent play between Callum Burden and Ben Fishman was pleasurable to watch.  The Panthers added a third goal with a stunning strike from Callum Burden whose screaming shot nearly took the Hartshead keeper into the back of the net with the ball, the poor keeper even had to take his glove off to make sure his hand was still attached to his arm Callum's shot was that fierce, 3-0 to the Panthers.

The Panthers attackers were awesome (in the manager's word) and a great run into the box saw a Hartshead defender foul Ben Fishman and the Panthers were awarded a penalty - no arguments who was to take it.  Ben Fishman cooly put the ball on the spot and for his hat-trick, clinically put the ball into the back of the net to make the score 4-0.  Hartshead kept going and grabbed a goal back to make the final score 4-1.  A special mention for one chance that didn't go in.  An excellent corner from the right from Callum Burden was met on the half volley by Ben Fishman who was only denied his fourth goal of the day with a fine save from the Hartshead keeper who just managed to stop the ball crossing the line.

Man of the match went to Ben Fishman who took all his goals well, but also got back on many occasions to help out in defence and put some great corners into the Hartshead box.

Well played to ever single Panthers player today, you linked up well as a team and there were some awesome attacking moves.

Pumas 1 - Churwell Lions 1

Goalscorers : Oli Spencer

Man of the match: Max Wilson

The Pumas had a rare afternoon kick off, but started very lively.  Harry Hardy was in goal, with his defensive duo of Marshall Boden and Joe McDaid.  Midfield consisted of Matty Rogers, Cameron Spurr, Dan Fletcher, and on the wing the every impressive Max Wilson.  Oli Spencer was the lone striker.

Churwell came and looked very relaxed and composed from the start, causing early pressure on the Pumas defence but the partnership of Marshall and Joe stood tall and ate up everything Churwell could throw at them.  The Pumas settled well and played some good football out of defence to the attacking runs of Max, Matty and Cameron who all put some early balls through for Oli to attack.

A lovely goal for the Pumas came with a strong run from Cameron and ball into the box for Oli to get on the end of and put the ball into the back of the net, 1-0 to the home side.  The rest of the half flew by with some good tackles and steady handling in goal by Harry.  Half time came with the score 1-0 to the Pumas.

Second half and game on, all credit to Churwell who came out to attack and after some good play from the Pumas, Churwell broke away and gained a corner, which was taken well into the box and a superb header levelled the scores 1-1.

The Pumas realised they needed to step up a gear and played some super stuff with some good passing throughout the team but just lacked the finishing touch.  Oli had a few chances this half that just went wide.

Full time saw a 1-1 draw.

Man of the match went to Max Wilson who put some super balls into the box and tracked back well to help out in defence.

Hard luck to the Pumas today, the game was there for the taking - a bit more clinical finishing and positive attacking play and the win was there.

Panthers 1 - Churwell Lions 1

Goalscorers: Ben Fishman

Man of the match: Joe Holliday and Bradley Woollin

The Panthers lined up for today's later kick off with Scott Rankin in goal.  His defence was Ryan Allen and Bradley Woollin.  In midfield were Ben Fishman, Luke Hubbard and William Hall, with Joe Holliday up front.  Mark Scott started on the touchline as a sub, but was soon called into action and played well on the right of midfield.

The Panthers played some quality football with great running and team work from Joe, Luke, Ben and William with some excellent passing in the team.  Scott was called upon on numerous occasions and stood up to the task very well.  Joe was a threat to the Churwell defence, as soon as he got the ball he attacked each Churwell player and looked threatening near goal.

The highlights of the first half were a shot just wide by Will, a lovely solo run from Joe saw his shot hit the post and a bad challenge on Ben saw him bravely pick himself up to take the free-kick that just went over the bar. Half time came with a 0-0 score line.

Second half and the Panthers continued their good pressure, a lovely run by Ben down the wing saw a perfect ball into Joe who had made a run from midfield  into the box, only to shoot over the cross bar.  An injury to Luke saw a slight delay but the Panthers player soon shook it off and kept up his busy presence.

Joe Holliday has settled really well into the side and he had two great chances to put his side in the lead, but on both occasions the ball went agonisingly wide.  Finally the Panthers breakthrough came with a super solo run from Mark Scott who beat three Churwell players and all the crowd urged him to shoot, which he did, it looked as if his shot was going into the back of the goal but thankfully for the Panthers Ben Fishman got a slight touch to see the ball home, 1-0 to the Panthers and it is what they deserved.

Churwell attacked the Panthers defence of Ryan Allen and Bradley Woollin but the team battled well together and kept them at bay.  Scott was very confident in goal but he last attack of the game saw a good Churwell attack and a fine shot at goal which Scott did his utmost to keep out but the ball went over the line, to make the score 1-1.

Men of the match went to Joe Holiday and Bradley Woollin who never put a foot wrong today, well done boys.

Great play from the Panthers, you did deserve a win today.  Plenty of chances and good all round play.

Battyeford A 1 v 2 Ossett Town Pumas

Scorers: Oliver Spencer (2)

Man of the Match: Matty Rogers

Match Reporter: Lisa Wardman

A very gale force windy day saw the Puma's kick off against Battyeford juniors and the Puma's set off into action pushing forward right from the start with the strong frontline of Oliver Spencer followed by his pack in midfield which consisted of Max Wilson, Matty Rogers, Elliot Smith and Callum Burden and the brick wall defence line of Thomas Wright and Joe McDaid, and in the back of the net was the dependable Harry Hardy, the crowd saw some excellent footwork coming from the pumas and some great passes between them ended in a great goal from Oliver Spencer to see the gallant Puma's go a well deserved 1-0 lead, the whistle blew for halftime and the team talk then kicked in.

The start of second half came and the Puma's were wide awake and ready to go a change in players saw Matty Rogers back in the centre of midfield and Callum Burden having a well deserved rest.  Danger came though as Battyeford pushed forward and kicked a high shot that sneaked in over the top of Harry 'big lad' Hardy to make the score 1-1.

After really good quality passing and great attempts at goal Matty was brought off and rested and on came Callum to finish the latter end of the game, again some great passing and tackles was seen and the all of a sudden warm in the back of the Battyeford net went the ball from the great Oliver Spencer to make the score 2-1. The puma's quickly got back into action when the full time whistle blew!

T.C.S. man of the match went to Matty Rogers who did his team proud today, well done boys.

Battyeford B 0 v 2 Ossett Town Panthers

Scorers: Alistair Haigh and Chris Colley

Man of the Match: Lewis Wardman

Match Reporter: Lisa Wardman

A very windy morning with leaves flying in the air we saw the Panthers kick off with Jamie White in the goals, defence line consisted of Edward Colley and Alex Jolly further up the field was young Joss Harrison in left midfield,  Holly Saynor in the centre and to her right was Lewis Wardman, centre forward was Alistair Haigh and sitting on the sub bench was Seb Fealy and Christopher Colley.

The mighty reds set off with a great throw-in from Harrison to Lewis to give Lewis his first attempt at goal but narrowly missed. The panthers were red hot with the ball with tackling and passing to each other we then saw Alex have a good attempt at goal but unfortunatly missing, then a great pass led to a great goal from Alistair who took his time and the end result paid off to make panthers go 1-0 up.

Lewis was taken off for a well deserved rest and young Seb came on as fresh as a daisy and never stopped running for his team members.  Then off went Holly to have a good rest and on came Christopher and sprung straight into action by scoring a goal within five minutes of being on the pitch, another rest period came with Edward going off and Lewis coming back on in defence.

Battyeford pushed forward to try for a goal  but Jamie was having none of it and the star saved the ball.  Young Harrison was running all over the pitch and wherever the ball was he was there.  Half time whistle blew it was 2-0 to the panthers, the mighty reds had refreshments and a good team talk then second half whistle blew it was clear to the eye the Panthers tightened their belts and before we knew it there was a penalty from the Battyeford side which was safely saved by Jamie.

Most of the second half game was played down the Battyeford half of the pitch, Lewis had his second attempt at a long shot of the goal but the keeper saved it, Lewis held his head up high and carried on with his duties with passing and tackling, full time whistle blew it was 2-0 to the panthers.

T.C.S man of the match went to Lewis Wardman.  What an exciting game it was and a pleasure to watch, keep up the hard work boys !

Ossett Town Pumas 1 v 3 Rothwell Juniors

Goalscorer: Oliver Spencer

Man of the Match: Marshall Boden

Match Reporter: James Rogers

Rothwell visited Haggs Hills for the second time in a fortnight, this time in the Huddersfield League division G and O sections.  The first half was a close contest with Marshall Boden and Dan Fletcher commanding the back line with the excellent support of keeper Harry Hardy.

Chris Colley, Cameron Spurr and Bradley Woolin were extremely busy in midfield, with Spurr particularly battling well.

Up front was Oli Spencer who caused the Rothwell defence to be on high alert all of the game.

Will Hall and Edward Colley were the two able substitutes who both came on after 10 minutes.   Colley settled well in the right midfield role with Hall occupying the left midfield slot - Hall was particularly effective today and it was pleasing to see him use both his right, as well as his trust left, foot.

At half-time the scoreline was 0 v 0 which reflected the battling spirit of both teams.

In the second half Rothwell started to take control and got three goals in a space of ten minutes.  Town pressed hard in the last ten and got a good goal back through the reliable Spencer.

The final score was 3 v 1 to Rothwell and the match went to Marshall Boden who didn't put a foot wrong all of the game.

Ossett Town Panthers 0 v 5 Rothwell Juniors

Man of the Match: Jamie White

Match Reporter: Jon Graves

From the kick off Rothwell piled on the pressure and the Panther’s defensive partnership of Ethan Morris and Harry Graves battled hard to keep out wave after wave of opposition attack. Despite their fine efforts, it was Jamie White in the nets that kept Town in the game, pulling off some fantastic saves.

Rothwell were awarded corner after corner and the midfield of Elliot Smith, Alistair Haigh and Seb Fealy did brilliantly in helping out with defensive duties. Town then got some attacking moves together and Matthew Rogers and Elliot Smith made some superb runs. Elliot, on one run, took a knock, but bravely recovered enough to take the ensuing free kick.

Unfortunately, the Rothwell pressure eventually paid off, and despite some more fine defensive work and saves from Jamie White, the Panthers went one down.

After the restart Ossett had a chance of their own when Matty Rogers put through Alistair Haigh, only to have his shot saved by the Rothwell keeper.

Will Fealy came on as sub and went straight into the heart of the midfield where he could be heard constantly shouting encouragement to his team mates. Lewis Wardman also came on to help bolster the defence making a number of important tackles.

For the second half Town made some positional changes with Alistair Haigh playing as the lone striker. The half started well for Ossett with Alistair making some great runs and a number fantastic through balls unfortunately bounced through to the Rothwell keeper. The good play did not result in an Ossett goal and it was Rothwell who got on the score sheet again with two quick breakaway strikes.

As the half went on, despite some more excellent defending and further wonderful goalkeeper from Jamie, the strength of the Rothwell attack was too much for Town and they went on to score two more late goals. The final score line of  5 – 0 did not properly reflect the Ossett teams display or the effort that everybody put in.

Hunslet Juniors FC 2 - Pumas 2

Goalscorers : Joe Holliday and Oli Spencer

Man of the match: Max Wilson

The Pumas travelled to Hunslet on this warm and pleasant Autumn morning with Harry Hardy in goal, his defence was Joe McDaid and Ryan Allen first half, with the midfield line up of Ben Fishman, Matty Rogers, Max Wilson, Callum Burden and Joe Holliday.  Oli Spencer was up front.

The Pumas seemed slow out of the starting blocks this morning and for the first few minutes of the game Hunslet looked the better side.  The Pumas had a couple of new faces in the side and it took a while for the team to settle.  Hunslet kept the pressure on and grabbed an early goal to go1-0 up.  The Pumas looked shocked but it was what Hunslet deserved.

The Pumas pulled their socks up and started to get hold of the ball and played some better football, a lovely move from defence saw Joe McDaid put a perfect pass through for Oli Spencer, whose shot went just wide.  This inspired the Pumas to attack and a lovely run by Ben Fishman who passed a perfect ball to Joe Holliday to burst into the box and cooly slot the ball home for his first goal in a Town shirt to put his side on level terms.  The Pumas tails were up then and a lovely move, probably the best of the game saw a super pass from Matty onto Callum who took the ball to the Hunslet defence, he then passed to Max who instinctively looked up and gave a super ball to Oli Spencer whose shot hit the post.  Hard luck Pumas this was a great move which was soon followed by another great run from Max Wilson who once again put the ball on to Oli Spencer's foot whose shot was well saved.  Further efforts from Ben Fishman, whose shot was pushed onto the crossbar and another effort, which was well saved saw half time come and after a slow start from the Pumas they were now rampant for another goal, but it remained 1-1.

Second half and there were a few positional changes, with Ben Fishman slotting into defence.   The Pumas kept the pressure on the home side and if it wasn't for some super defending from the Hunslet centre half then I think the score line would have been very different.  Finally Oli Spencer got on the score sheet with another lovely team move from defence and a great shot from to put the Pumas 2-1 up.   Hunslet then got on the attack  and Harry Hardy made some match winning saves, but couldn't keep the ball out of the back of the net after some sloppy defending from the Pumas team, which levelled the game at 2-2.

It was end to end stuff then and to be honest the game could have gone either way with both teams putting immense pressure on, but the defences stood up to the challenge and some good tracking back from all the Pumas players helped them get a very well earned 2-2 draw against a very well organised Hunslet side.

Man of the match went to Max Wilson, who first half was superb and put some world class balls into the box.

Well done to the Pumas team, who all battled well and tried their hardest on a very hard pitch and against a very good Hunslet defence.

Hunslet Juniors FC 1 - Panthers 1

Goalscorer : Christian Hamer

Man of the match: Elliott Smith

The Panthers made the short journey down the M1 to Hunslet on a glorious sunny morning.  They lined up with Scott Rankin in the No. 1 shirt, in front of him was Luke Hubbard, Thomas Wright and Harrison Joss, midfield was Elliott Smith, Thomas Danson and Mark Scott.  Up front were Christian Hamer and Alex Jolly.

The Panthers were eager to get playing after watching the nail biting Pumas game and they settled well.  Elliott Smith was all over the field early on, getting back helping in defence and been strong bursting through the midfield to enable Christian Hamer and Mark Scott time and room to make some good runs into the box.  However, against the run of play a long range shot from Hunslet beat Scott Rankin in goal to put the home side 1-0 up.  The Panthers kept their compsure and played some good football.  Thomas Wright and Luke Hubbard linked up well together at the back and Elliott Smith put some great corners and balls into the box but the Panthers just couldn't get on the end of one.  However, they finally got their reward not long after with a lovely solo run into the box from Christian Hamer who beat three Hunslet defenders and cooly put the ball in the back to level the scores at 1-1.

Half time 1-1 and a very even game.

Second half and Harrison Joss slotted into defence with Thomas Wright.  The Panthers battled well this half and really played well, Elliott Smith was involved in everything and won the ball back on numerous occassions in very dangerous areas for his side.  Again, this game could have gone either way and the crowd were on a knife edge.  The Panthers kept up the pressure and a long range shot from Harrison Joss went just wide.  Both defences were on top second half and some great battling by all the players made the final score 1-1.

Man of the Match went to Elliott Smith who covered every inch of grass and gave everything for his side today and was unlucky not to be on the winning side.

Well done to the Panthers players, you battled well and played some good football at times.  This was a great draw against a very strong Hunslet outfit.

Would just like to mention what great facilities Hunslet have, it was a pleasure to be there today.

"Cock-a-doodle do"

Pumas 0 v 1 Longcroft Lions

Man of the match: Joe McDaid

With the regular match reporter on a well deserved weekend away, and NO other volunteers to do a report (Ed - that's a little disappointing isn't it?) it's down to the Manager to do his best and try and write a report for the benefit of the kids.

The Pumas turned out today for a very early kick off - it was a 9:30am start and the cockerels were still crowing (or whatever it is they do to wake the farmer up each morning).  Pumas, usually renowned for been quite athletic and dominant creatures, turned out today as though they'd just awoken with the larks and throughout this game never quite imposed themselves in the way they normally would.

Ossett started the strongest having the benefit of the slope, with Matty Rogers and Joe McDaid awakening from their slumber before the other players.   Captain McDaid was strong at the back and made two or three decisive tackles releasing the ball for the midfield to challenge the Lions.  Rogers, in the unaccustomed position of left midfield, did some great trickery to beat two players but then forgot he had a left foot which if used would have put the keeper under pressure and a possible goal.

Air Marshall Boden was in good form at the back working in partnership with McDaid and between them thwarting the Lions attack.  Harry Hardy, once again in excellent form, was commanding in goal and any pressure was put to safety with some excellent diving saves.

Cameron Spurr in the centre of midfield put pressure on the Lions defence on two or three occasions but couldn't quite get the killer pass.  The crowd spurred Cameron on to get him to head those goal kicks being delivered in the centre of the park, but it wasn't going to be his head today preferring to work with his feet.

Max Wilson was busy as ever on the right flank and tracked back well in order to help Air Marshall Boden and Captain McDaid when they needed support.   Dan Fletcher was an able substitute in midfield, and defence when needed, and did his best to snuff out the Lions attack.

Oli Spencer, whilst busy in attack with three or four chances, couldn't quite find his shooting boots today.  He looked certain to score on two occasions being one-on-one with the keeper, but the Lions keeper was brave and having been shown too much of the ball cleared the ball to safety.

Late in the game the Lions got the goal that counted, and whilst Ossett had further chances they never quite looked like they were going to get out of first gear today - a little disappointing after recent performances, but I'm sure we'll bounce back next week, although I do not want to hear any crowing!

Panthers 1 v 1 Longcroft Lions

"Panthers tame the Lions"

Goalscorer - Callum Burden

Man of the match: Edward Colley

That elusive match reporter had still not turned up (Ed - it's true what they say, never trust a reporter!) and the Assistant Manager for this game, Rogers, had to once again write a report for the benefit of the kids.

This one though was a pleasure to watch (and put pen to paper).  Whereas the Pumas had looked lethargic and half-asleep, the Panthers where in a completely different time zone.  Whilst only an hour later, they looked as though they'd been awake for hours practicing the wonderful game of football we all love.

They took the game straight to the Lions with Callum Burden and Joe Holliday the ones who shined as we played in the glorious sun in what could be known as "millionaires valley" - a far stretch from what we know in Ossett and the "poshest" place that Tom Wilson (Max's brother) has ever been to, excluding Thornby or course where messrs Gerrad and Torres inhabit.

The Panthers were simply brilliant today, all nine of them.  Bradley Woolin and Edward Colley were so much in control at the back that the manager left them alone all game, letting them just soak up the pressure attack after attack.

Whilst the Lions did score quite early on, this was quite a fortunate goal.  The keeper, reliable Jamie White, had gotten his hands on the ball but with the early dew making the ball a little slippery he couldn't quite hold onto it and it, unfortunately for Ossett, slipped over the line.

This was going to be the Lions only real threat with Edward Colley and Bradley in such excellent form and with the two keepers of White and Scott Rankin being completely commanding.

Chris Colley was also extremely busy in midfield and his doggedness in the tackles created chances for Burden and Holliday to capitalise on.

Seb Fealy worked tremendously hard on the right if midfield, supported by his big hearted brother in Will Fealy.  Callum Burden was a constant menace and with the sublime skills of Holliday, Town were bound to get on the scoresheet.

This they did when Burden broke through the middle and slotted the ball home.  Overall, the Panthers were fantastic today and not only deserved a draw, but could have potentially won this one.

All of the players should hold their heads up high, especially Edward Colley who took for the second week running the player of the match accolade.

Well done guys - whilst we had no volunteer to do the match report, it was a pleasure to watch and write.

Sunday 13 September 2009

Pumas 1 -  Rothwell Juniors 3

Man of the match: Harry Hardy

The Pumas kicked off their League campaign with a tough home game against Rothwell.

The team lined up with Harry Hardy in goal, Joe McDaid, Marshall Boden and Dan Fletcher in defence, Matty Rogers, Max Wilson and Cameron Spurr in midfield and Oliver Spencer up front.  Straight from the kick off Rothwell attacked, the ball went into the box and Joe McDaid was harshly judged to have made a back pass and a free kick was given which was converted by Rothwell to put them 1-0 up.  The Pumas seemed a bit ruffled by this and they then suffered another set back when Marshall Boden was hit hard in the face by the ball, but recovered well in a short space of time.

Rothwell are a very good passing and well organised side, so the Pumas knew they had to dig deep.  Harry Hardy was called into action numerous times and made a string of fine saves.  I think this fixture will be one of his busiest of the season.   As half time approached Rothwell added a second goal.

The second half came and Rothwell added a third goal with a superb header from a corner in and the Pumas looked very unsettled with most balls going astray.  Cameron Spurr was busy all over the field and Max Wilson seemed to be in acres of space most of the time but the ball just would not reach him.  Credit to the Pumas, their heads didn't go down and they pulled their socks up.  Midway through the second half we saw some good football from the Pumas, some lovely passing moves and Oliver Spencer had a number of chances at the Rothwell goal.  Finally his determination paid off after a lovely flowing move involving Joe McDaid, Max Wilson and a great ball into Cameron Spurr who's shot hit the post and rebounded to Oliver Spencer to slot home.

The goal seemed to spur every player on and the Pumas had some real pressure and were unfortunate not to get another goal which would have made the final minutes really interesting.  If we could have just scored a little earlier the result might have been different.  Final score was 3-1 to Rothwell.

Man of the match went to Harry Hardy who was outstanding in goal today and really kept the score respective.

A really good game of football today and the Pumas can hold their heads up, with a bit more clinical finishing we may have seen a different outcome, but well battled second half you showed some great team spirit.

Panthers 0 -  Rothwell Juniors 3

Man of the match: Thomas Wright

The Panthers started the first League game with a difficult looking home tie against an always strong and impressive Rothwell outfit.

The goalie shirt was Scott Rankin's all game, his defence was Thomas Wright and Ryan Allen, in midfield was Christopher Colley, Bradley Woollin, William Hall and Luke Hubbard.  Ben Fishman was the striker.  The Panthers were up against it straight from the kick off and Scott Rankin was going to have a busy morning but stood up to the task superbly with some fine saves and some superb kicks out.  He took charge of his area well and looked really confident today against a fast moving Rothwell attack.

The first half seemed to fly by with not many efforts falling to the Panthers, their backs were aginst the wall most of the half but they dug in and battled well together.  Thomas Wright was like a giant in defence for the Panthers, Ryan Allen got some timely challenges in and Bradley Woolin made some clean breaks through the Rothwell defence.  Rothwell were strong and had a bag full of chances, but only managed to put one past Scott Rankin, making the half time score 1-0.

Second half and to be honest it was much the same as the first from the Panthers point of view, a lot of defending and not much attacking play, the only shot of the game fell to Luke Hubbard.   Some positives from the half were some superb corners into the box from Ben Fishman, some great tackles from Christopher Colley and William Hall.  Bradley Woollin also looked very comfy on the ball today.  Scott Rankin' was also outstanding in goal.

Man of the Match went to Thomas Wright who didn't put a foot wrong all game and was strong throughout for his side.

Well Panthers you fought hard today but were beaten by a better passing side, keep up the hard work in training and I am sure it will pay off on the pitch.

Final score 3 v 0 to Rothwell.

Ossett Town Pumas 2 v 1 Norristhorpe A

Scorers: Cameron Spurr and Max Wilson

Player of the Match: Joe McDaiD

The game kicked off at 10.30, on a pleasant morning.  Excitement filled the air as the players felt the new pitch under their feet. The place might have been new but the players fighting spirit they found in the wilds of north Ossett was still there.

Ever steady Harry Hardy in goal gave solidity to the defence and displayed great courage as he nearly had a boot for a top lip.   Marshall and Joe Mcdavid showed no sign of having a summer break as they were stalwarts in defence.

The midfield engine applied great pressure as both Max Wilson and Oliver Spencer tackled and fought for every ball.

Cameron Spurr's great corner added more pressure and his goal shortly after were well deserved.   As the half time whistle approached the pressure mounted, Matthew Rogers nearly missed the upright.

The sun glistened on the ref’s forehead as he raised his whistle for half time.

Half Time

After a team talk of carry on your doing well the players readied themselves for the expected Norristhorpe onslaught.

With a slicing passing move the visitors scored.

The player’s resolve and fitness level was now sure to be tested.  Would the long holidays of ice cream and doughnuts be are undoing.  Max the little pocket rocket crossed the ball with the skill of Ronaldo and like the aformentioned player found the net was bulging with the pace of the ball.   Doughnuts or not we were in front.

The game ebbed and flowed with both sides playing some great football.  The difference apart from the goal, seemed to be our solid defence.

Not surprising then when Joe Mc David walked away with the man of the match award for a performance of gigantic proportions.

Final Score - Ossett  2  Norrissthorpe 1

Come on the lads.

Ossett Town Tigers 0 v 5 Norristhorpe D

Men the Match: Jacob Merricks and Harrison Joss.

Time for a different set of Cats to shine, on the newly christened home turf.  The whistle blow and they were ready to pounce with both skill and guile.

William Feally steadied the ship from the rear in the goal.   Jacob Merricks and Harrison Joss gave great cover as Ossett started the game brightly.  The Norristhorpe coach looked nervously on as Ossett seemed to be taking the upper hand.

Holly Saynor and Alistair Haigh held more than their own in the middle of the park.  Lewis Wardman running and movement up front deserved a goal.  Harry Graves on the right of the park was a non stop dynamo.  Then against the run of play they scored a goal.

Half time

After a team talk that was quite upbeat as Ossett dominance was sure to show in the second half.  But wait what this!  The nerves must have been too much for the Norristhorpe coach as he replaced nearly his entire team.

SHAME ON YOU

So like fogged donkeys a stronger Norristhorpe first team strolled back onto the pitch.  Not to be disheartened our little team of warriors kept there cool.  Jacob and Harrison protected the newly replaced keeper Ethan Morris well.  The team heads never dropped and they battled to the bitter end.

The Norristhorpe team although tired had the edge though as they put the ball repeatedly in the back off our net.  We were the better team if football was scoured on heart and passion we’d have won, as it was.

Final Score - Ossett   0  Norristhorpe 5.

Ossett Town Jaguars 3 - Norristhorpe 4

Man of the Match: Callum Burden

The Jaguars started their campaign with a very strong line up and all seemed up for the challenge.  In goal first half was Mark Scott, who remained confident throughout.  Seb Fealey, Thomas Wright held the defence strong, with Luke Hubbard, Bradley Woolin, Harry Hardy and Thomas Danson in midfield.  Callum Burden was the lone man up front.

Straight from the kick off the Jaguars were ready to attack with some great runs through midfield by Harry who was supporting and passing well to Callum.  These two linked up very well and were both strong and determined.  Callum soon got on the score sheet with a strong run and a superb shot into the back of the net to put the home side 1-0 up.  Norristhorpe soon settled though and attacked well and a hand ball in the box from Thomas Wright saw the away side awarded a penatly which was converted well giving Mark no chance in goal.  A further away goal soon came making the score 2-1 going into half time.

However, Town had other ideas with a fine shot at goal from Bradley well saved which seemed to spur the Jaguars on.  A lovely move saw a perfect pass from Callum into Harry who burst into the Norristhope box and unleash an unstoppable shot right to level the game at 2-2, which was just reward as Town did not deserve to go in losing at half time.

Second half and Luke went into goal and Mark slotted into outfield.  Town started the second half where they left off with chances at goal by Callum, Harry and Thomas Danson all going close.  Norristhorpe kept their cool though and added two goals in quick succession to make the score 4-2.  However, the Jaguars weren't out of it and another superb finish by Callum made the score 4-3, but in the end Norristhorpe just held on for a narrow victory.  Man of the Match went to Callum Burden who scored two fine goals and also got back and helped in midfield and defence when needed.

Another special mention to the newer faces Thomas Danson and Mark Scott who fitted into the team really well.  Hard luck to the Jaguars, I really didn't think you deserved to lose today.

Ossett Town Panthers 0 - Norristhorpe 5

Well the Panthers kicked off with a friendly against a very strong Norristhorpe side at their new home venue of Haggs Hill.  All the kids were excited to see each other and eager to get back playing again.

The Panthers lined up for the friendly with Scott Rankin in goal first half, defence was a combination of Jamie White and Alex Jolly, midfield consisted of Ben Fishman, Christian Hamer, Elliott Smith and Ryan Allen with Dan Fletcher up front.  Straight from the kick off a superb pass by Ben landed perfectly at the feet of Dan who had the first effort at the Norristhorpe goal, which was well saved.

Norristhorpe soon retaliated after Town's early chance and a fine low shot put them 1-0 up.  Scott was under pressure in the Town goal and made some superb saves to keep his side in the game, but just before half time Norristhorpe added a second goal to make the half time score 2-0.

The second half and Town were once again under pressure for most of the half.  Scott was resilient in goal but could not keep the Norristhorpe attack out.  They added a further three goals to make the final score 5-0.

The highligt of the second half for Town was a lovely free kick put into the box by Ben to Alex, who on the half volley turned and shot, only to see his shot hit the post, hard luck Alex - could have been an early candidate for goal of the season!

A tough game for the Panthers today, but you played some good football.  A special mention to Ryan Allen who was busy all the game and looked very comfortable in the Panthers defence.

Halifax Academy 1 v 1 Ossett Town

Scorer: Oliver Spencer

Player of the Match: Cameron Spurr

Ossett Town U9s had a fantastic game of football against the U9s academy side from Halifax centre of excellence.   Town started the strongest and looked the likely team to score first.  Chances fell to Matty Rogers, Oliver Spencer, Ben Fishman and Cameron Spurr, but the Halifax goalkeeper was on good form to keep the Ossett threat neutralised.  Halifax scored a goal just before half-time following a little bit of a mix up with the new back-pass rule which is introduced this season.   The referee had the minute previous given a foul for a back pass, the first one ever for reliable keeper Harry Hardy, so when the ball was once again going back to the keeper, albeit from the opposition player, Hardy was a little unsure what to do and rather than pick the ball up, having plenty of time to do so, hesitated and kicked the ball out.  Unfortunately, it ricocheted off of the oncoming striker and went into the net.  Town though did not let their heads go down.   With the dependable Joe McDaid and Marshall Boden in defence, supported excellently by Dan Fletcher just in front of them and Ben Fishman on the left of midfield who didn't put a foot wrong all of the game, Town were able to build the play from the back and attack the Halifax midfield.   Just after the half-time break it was from one of these attacks that Ossett got the important equaliser.  Good work from Max Wilson on the right of midfield, and determination from Ben Fishman and striker Oliver Spencer, put the Halifax defence under pressure.  When the Halifax defender tried to clear the ball, Spencer was on hand and at the second attempt his shot hit the back of the net.   Town continued to press, but it was end-to-end football.  With Jamie White in top form in defence, supported by McDaid, Marshall, and when needed, Spurr, Wilson, Fishman, Fletcher and Rogers all tracking back, Town were going to fight as hard as they could to protect their goal.  And this they did right to the final whistle earning a fantastic draw in a great match.
