The ‘ Mavericks ‘ played the second game of the day against Gipton Juniors (B) looking to secure a vital three points. The team consisted of Stephen Hosty in goal, Bailey Rawden 　and Jarrad Oakes were　in defence. James Higgins, Richard Flood and William Kenworthy were in midfield with Luke Townend up front. On the bench today was Samuel Bowers and Hubert Ratkowski. Both teams were very evenly matched throughout a very tight first period. The visitors keeper made some good saves to thwart efforts by Luke Townend and William Kenworthy. At times the hosts were slightly off the pace although they did stick to the task and the rewards finally arrived ( sometimes it does not matter how you get there )!!!! Bailey Rawden put in some good defensive challenges and he was supported by the tenacious Jarrad Oakes. Richard Flood worked hard in a tough midfield area along with his counterpart William Kenworthy. James Higgins was struggling slightly having dropped some weighing scales on his knee in a domestic type accident. Keeper Stephen Hosty did everything asked of him and in fairness was given no chance with either goal. The first period finished with a 0 – 0 stalemate. The second half started with ‘ Town ‘ taking a two goal lead with cool finishes by Luke Townend and Richard Flood ( Ossett 2 Gipton (B) 0 ). Hubert Ratkowski had a fine game in defence and should be proud of his efforts having just come in to the team. He was ably supported by the determined Samuel Bowers who produced a committed display. Gipton were a well drilled outfit and they still harboured plans of their own. A quick fire two goal salvo changed the whole outlook of this fixture and the home supporters were beginning to fear the worst. However with time running out up popped midfielder William Kenworthy to slot home a vital winner and with it the much coverted three points. ( Ossett 3 Gipton Juniors (B) 2 ). Final Score.

Match reporters comments : A good even contest and Gipton proved to be very difficult opponents. The last goal came a little bit too late for an old heart like mine. Well done to both teams and good luck to Gipton in the future.

This was a must win game for the Ossett Town ‘ Tornados ‘ if they were to keep their title aspirations alive. On a glorious sunny Saturday morning they entered this crucial Garforth League fixture with Elliot Robinson in goal, James Ferguson and Jacob Nash in defence. The midfield today were Bradley Graham, Lewis Stephens and Ewan Broadbent with Billy Pert up front. The subs today were Connor Mcaliskey and Keiran Stephenson. 　Leeds based Gipton Juniors (A) were today’s opposition taking to the field in the white coloured ‘ Leeds Utd ‘ replica kit. The initial exchanges were fairly even and it was clearly evident that the visitors were not here just to make up the numbers. As anyone stood near me knows already I was very impressed with the diminutive number 7 who I felt played his heart out for the team. He was to rewarded later in the game for his never say die attitude. ‘ Town ‘ took a short while to settle although the all the players played for one another in an all round committed team display. They took the lead after some fine approach play lead to striker Billy Pert slotting home ( Ossett 1 Gipton 0 ). This was a well contested game throughout and Ossett were never allowed the freedom to relax. The ‘ reds ‘ played some lovely stuff in phases nd one such passage of play resulted in Billy Pert firing home is second goal of the day ( Ossett 2 Gipton 0 ). As previously stated Gipton simply battled on with an admirable steely determination. Lewis Stephens produced some solid midfield challenges backed up by his colleague Bradley Graham. The defence in James Ferguson and Jacob Nash played very well making some timely challenges to thwart the opposition danger. Keeper Elliot Robinson looked composed and dealt with things in a tidy manner. Goal number three came courtesy of a slightly fortuitous effort from distance by Bradley Graham ( who was just about to receive a managers tongue lashing for taking the wrong option). ( Ossett 3 Gipton 0 )　 Half Time. The ‘ Tornados ‘ managed to see the second period out in a fairly comfortable fashion. Ewan Broadbent continued to use his good vision by bringing other players into the play with good pass selection choices. Keiran Stephenson and Connor Mcaliskey brought other good aspects to the team when they came on. Both combined good link up play with fine bursts of pace down either flank. Connor Mcaliskey was rewarded with the player of the match award for his totally committed attitude on the day. Billy Pert had a fine bustling type performance today and he grabbed himself an hat trick off his bottom for goal number four. ( Ossett 4 Gipton 0 ). The visitors number 7 then brought a big smile to my face ( i think you get the picture that I liked this little fella )!!!!! He collected the ball on half way and concluded a fine mazy run with an excellent strike past Elliot Robinson. ( Ossett 4 Gipton 1 ). Finally Connor Mcaliskey wrapped up the three points with a low strike into the goal. ( Ossett 5 Gipton 1 ) Final Score.
