U8 Howden Clough Gala Winners 2014

Ossett Town Trojans Team consisting of Hayden (GK), Thomas, Finlay, Louie, Danny, Sebastian and Ethan won the tournament with a series of excellent performances. Finlay and Thomas were both solid in defence, clearing the ball away to safety when the striker was bearing in on goal. Danny and Louie both played their part by covering in defence and working like terriers to win the ball back to set up the next attack. Sebastian and Ethan combined brilliantly with some great passing and the goals when it counted. Hayden when called upon made some excellent saves which showed in the eight clean sheets throughout the tournament. As a team they worked tirelessly for one another with Thomas and Finlay having the occasional foray forward and Ethan and Sebastian chasing back to not allow the opponents time on the ball, Danny and Louie both had their chances to score and if it wasn’t for some excellent goalkeeping by the opposition would have got on the score sheet themselves. The final against Dewsbury Rangers B showed all the elements of this in a stalwart performance by the team, with Dewsbury pressing on hard from the outset Ossett struggled to get the ball out of there half, but for some back to the wall defending and  Hayden managing to pull off a series of saves Dewsbury would have scored in normal play. In extra time Ossett pressed a lot higher and had more of the possession, eventually Danny ran on to a great pass from Ethan to bear down on goal and but for a brilliant save would surely have scored the winner. If England ever want to win on penalties they should watch a video of both Dewsbury Rangers and Ossett Towns with one after another flying into the top or bottom corner not giving the goalkeepers any chance, unfortunately someone always has to miss and Ossett Town Trojans won the U8 Howden Clough Gala 7-6 on penalties aet. Both teams played out a great game with exciting chances, great passing, solid tackling and excellent goalkeeping. Unsurprisingly both goalkeepers who amazingly kept clean sheets in this game were Men of the Match but all 14 of the players deserved that award.
