Ossett Town Juniors Club Statement – Springmill

It is now common knowledge that Ossett Town Juniors have completed a Community Asset Transfer of Springmill Playing Fields from Wakefield Council.

The grass pitches and changing facilities that our young people currently use have been decimated through years of austerity and neglect and we are excited at now being in a position to change this.

We are planning a number of improvements to the facilities with a significant investment that we, as volunteers, will need to raise. This will see substantial drainage works carried out to ensure that over 350 children can continue to play all year round rather than see games called off due to waterlogged pitches.

On completion, the available playing pitch space will increase by a third which will allow for the creation of new teams for many of our age groups who currently have a waiting list. Additionally, vehicular access to the facility will improve which will alleviate traffic related burdens that can sometimes take place across busy periods.

Ossett Town Juniors have always been at the heart of the community and this facility will allow us to continue that work. We know how important Springmill is to Ossett and we have worked incredibly hard to make sure that access will remain in place for the public footpaths that run through it.

We are showcasing these works in a project launch event at Ossett Town Hall from 5pm on Wednesday 21st March 2018. You can view the plans, ask any questions and also help us raise funds to see this project through to completion
