Lightning Match Report 7/10/12

After four defeats the Lightning squad lined up this week looking for a win, the boys had had a great training session on Saturday with all of them working hard on passing and defence. They ended the session looking in better form, keeping their shape and working better as a team.

Dewsbury Rangers kicked off and were straight on the attack, the boys having to work hard straight away to keep them from scoring some great work by Ben and Rio pushed play up the field towards Dewsbury’s goal. A great pass to Nathan provided the boys with the first attempt on goal Nathan’s shot was on target but a great save kept the score at 0-0.
Dewsbury are back on the attack again and earn themselves a corner, the shot sails past the goal but is picked back up by Dewsbury for another attempt which Alfie manages to keep out. Lightning find themselves on the end of a constant wave of attacking play which is defended well by Josh TD and Aaron both playing well and trying to pass the ball back up to Cameron and Nathan. The boys dig deep and manage to keep Dewsbury from scoring. Oliver McClelland receives the ball and charges from in front of our own goal up the field much to Dewsbury’s surprise right up to their own goal shoots and scores 0-1.
This goal spurs the boys on and they all again lift their heads and get stuck in. Josh and Cameron working hard again to try for another goal, the ball once more falls to Oliver’s feet but his shot clips the post. Ossett earn themselves another corner but the shot ends up wide and Dewsbury take the game back to our own goal. Again Ben works hard to get back up the field and defends well and prevents Dewsbury from levelling the score.
Ossett have one last push lead by Nathan and Cameron to try and sneak another goal before half time but their attempts are kept out by the Dewsbury defence.
The second half kicks off and as expected Dewsbury are straight on the attack, but some great defending again keeps them from scoring. Play heads back down towards Dewsbury’s goal, Oliver has another shot but the shot is wide. Again Ossett remain on the attack earning themselves a corner which forces Dewsbury’s keeper into a save.
Again play moves back up to our own goals Rio quickly clears an attack and passes back down to Oliver who carries the ball on and manages to score again to put the visitors 2 up…. Happy days.!
Dewsbury are straight back on the attack, earning a free kick this is taken but the shot is wide of the goal, but another attempt just proves a little too much for the boys and they manage to score. 1-2
Ossett launch a full on attack now on Dewsbury’s goal led by Evan and Rio spreading the ball up field to keep constant pressure on Dewsbury’s keeper and forcing him into some great saves. Dewsbury manage to break free again and test our defences, Josh TD and Aaron work hard to prevent them from scoring and producing some great clearances. Another attempt forces Alfie to kick  the ball back down field which is picked up by Ben and Rio again trying for another goal.
Final score 1-2 a well deserved win, all the boys worked hard and well and truly had their legs run off by the opposition. Fantastic work keep it up!!!
