U11 Warriors Huddersfield League Trophy Winners 2016

For the Huddersfield League Trophy final – the Warriors lined-up with James in goal;  a back three of George, Jamaine and Lucas;  a midfield quartet of Emmanuel, Charlie S, Cai and Jacob; with Charlie M up-front.  Seth, Thomas and Rhys all ready for action on the bench.

After a fast, frenetic start where each team pushed and probed for an opening, the Warriors started to assert their customary passing game. Charlie S spraying passes out wide, with Jacob and Emmanuel proving a real handful with their trickery and pace.  The breakthrough came with the Warriors first meaningful attack as Charlie, Cai and Emmanuel combined down the left.  Emmanuel’s cross was cleared, and Charlie’s strike was parried by the very good Horbury keeper, only for Charlie (Chazza) M to bundle in the rebound.

The Warriors doubled their lead when a long range Charlie S strike took a deflection that took it up and over the unlucky Horbury keeper and in; this was moments after he had tipped another long range Charlie effort over the bar.

Further chances followed, George with a long range speculative effort; Lucas with one of his mazey runs from the back and Emmanuel and Jacob probing out wide – but the third goal proved elusive.

The boys at the back had to be alert, as Horbury looked to respond with pressure of their own.  George, Jamaine and Lucas stood firm in front of James who mopped up behind.

The third goal followed a nice, flowing move from back to front that ended with Emmanuel on hand to apply the finish after fine build-up play from Jamaine, Charlie and Cai.

Although three-nil up after 15 minutes – the game was never comfortable as a determined Horbury Town side built-up a head of steam, pushing for a goal.  The Warriors conceded a dangerous free kick just outside their box; a good ball in broke to the Horbury striker and he finished smartly to cut the deficit at half-time.

Half-time: Horbury Town A 1 v 3 Ossett Town Warriors

Both sides knew the next goal was key to how the game would pan out and both defended resolutely throughout.  George, Charlie, Tom and Lucas were superb in the second half resisting a multitude of through balls from the Horbury midfield, with very few chances for James to worry about in goal.

Jamaine, Chazza, Cai, Emmanuel, Rhys, Jacob and Seth all probed for the killer fourth goal during their time on the pitch, but were met with equally strong resistance from a Horbury team determined not to concede again.  Several chances were snaffled by the opposition keeper, with too many Warriors shots guilty of being straight at the keeper.  When Charlie S’ long range shot did beat him, it cannoned off the bar.

As the game entered the final quarter, the Warriors established more control, earning their reward with a late fourth goal as Jamaine poked home the decisive blow.

The final whistle went not long after and the celebrations started and continued long into the day.  Fantastic!
