Women start pre-season with a win
It was all change at Ossett Town Womens with new coaches on the sideline, new outfield players and a new goalkeeper in what was the first pre-season friendly of the 2017/18 season in very hot conditions. Within the first 30 seconds, Town had their first strike on the Worsbrough goal from debutant Vicky Penney. A few minutes later and ‘VP’ fancied another pop at the keeper but again came off second best.
The game went on and Town could have been three or four up after 10 minutes. Shot after shot came with the Worsbrough keeper pulling off some fine saves. With halftime looming, Town found the ball 18 yards out again with VP wanting one more crack. Not letting her previous efforts stump her she took aim and launched a fierce shot into the back of the net.
The second half almost mirrored the first with the more attractive play coming from Town but again shot after shot produced no end product. In the end, Worsbrough seemed to want to show us how to score and after a low cross came in, the ball was sliced into the net leaving Town 2-0 winners at the end.
Full time; Worsbrough 0 – 2 Ossett Town. The Player of the Match was Emma Smith.
Ossett’s next pre-season fixture will be at home to Bradford Park Avenue on Sunday 23rd July. KO 2pm.
